  1. That fan who charged Howry was lucky he got tackled before he got to the mound. Howry was staring him down the whole way and likely would have mangled that kid brutally.
  2. Huh, Rockies have lost 10 of their last 11 at Wrigley.
  3. I didn't see the replay; did that loose ball actually hit Silva's bat? It looked/sounded like it missed it. NICE!
  4. Not much funnier than Lou boosters.
  5. Dammit. I love it when the suicide squeeze goes down.
  6. I like how Lou basically did his best to downplay Marshall in the post-game press conference. I know he doesn't really ever rave about guys when he's talking to the press, but I'm pretty sure he summed it up with something like, "yeah, Marshall pitched well for us." Would it kill Lou to make the guy who has a 0.787 WHIP and a SO/BB ratio of 5.40 the setup man?
  7. So you're suggesting that they take out a life insurance policy on Hendry and then have him killed? Brutal.
  8. Or maybe Byrd is a terrifying madman and his delusional insanity is tearing the clubhouse apart.
  9. Nobody's making a reasonable claim that it was ACTUALLY great. People are saying that they thought it was relatively "great," as in "I enjoyed Cubs' baseball more in the 00's than the 90's."
  10. I can only respond to what he wrote. And given his other comments on the subject matter, yes, I truly do believe he thinks the 2000s were literally great for the Cubs and their fans despite the fact that they failed to capitalize on what was thought of by many as a promising decade to come. But that's still subjective. The 00's can definitely be "great" for a Cubs fan, relatively speaking. It's not a right or wrong position to take. Compared to the other decades I've been a Cubs fan, I definitely found the 00's to be "great."
  11. Plus he had nearly knocked himself out of the game earlier with a screaming foul ball off of his leg.
  12. No they weren't. They were mediocre. 4 sub .500 seasons, 3 95 loss seasons and only 1 90 win season. 3 playoff appearances in 10 years despite a substantial financial advantage over the competition. The Angels, Twins and Athletics had great 2000's, the Cubs just managed to not suck as much as they did the previous decade. I like how you make this response as if someone can be wrong for enjoying the Cubs in the 00's compared to the 90's. What are you talking about? How do you get that at all? Seriously? My response was about the 2000's and how they were clearly not great. I even pointed out that the only reason somebody would pretend they were great is because they didn't suck as much as the 90's. Come on. You can't seriously believe he was calling them "great" in terms of "these were years of truly great, impressive baseball" as opposed to the obvious "these were great years of baseball compared to the 90's."
  13. Exactly, and Lou taking his pentulant, childishly stubborn approach to them simply doesn't work. Grabow has shown nothing this year that indicates he should be the guy to you go to in the 8th in a 2-1 game, especially when you have Marshall sitting on the same bench.
  14. Please. Acting like Lou has no options in the bullpen is absurd. Nobody forced him to go to Grabow as the setup guy when Marshall is just sitting there, twiddling his thumbs. He's shown time and time again in his entire time with the Cubs that he has little clue as to how to sensibly manage a bullpen.
  15. Damn. That is just unfair. Poor guy.
  16. I'd say Hughes is one of the greats.
  17. It's really not surprising. There's little reason for them to fire the guy when he's gone at the end of the year and Sandberg is likely just going to get the job. I'd love to see him get the boot, but I really don't expect it to happen.

  19. It's not even close to being ugly. I think we are close to being the 2010 version of the 2009 New York Mets in terms of getting ugly. Yeah, but how much worse can it really get? Use the group of games I brought up as an example: before today's game they had lost 10 of their last 12 games. Yeah, it could technically be worse in that they could have lost all 12 games, but really, it's not like you've suddenly jumped off a cliff between losing all 12 and losing 10 of 12. Again, a loss is a loss. It's not like losses to good teams are going to count more or "hurt worse" than the losses to the bad and average teams.
  20. Yeah, same here. The ending of the season stunk, but 2008 as a whole was by far the most fun I've had as a Cubs fan. If anything it made me more of a fan as opposed to making me all apathetic about bad seasons to come. And on that note, I'm off to the game.
  21. Well, '08 is looking more and more like an outlier as opposed to being the result of a team that was soundly constructed to compete for multiple seasons. Plus it's one thing to anticipate failure due to a specific teams' weaknesses and flaws and another to expect it as some kind of bad luck juju that's going to inevitably bring them down.
  22. Well, yeah. But that's because they usually put badly constructed teams on the field. Par for the course, really.
  23. Dude, you are way too hung up on 2008.
