  1. Holy [expletive], I totally didn't put that together. He's almost [expletive] 50.
  2. He really seems to enjoy playing that guy.
  3. Shocking clubhouse security cam footage released of Castro, Aramis and Silva harassing poor Theriot:
  4. This is getting too complicated. Sandberg as a manager at this point would [expletive] suck. The end.
  5. And when Weebay is out of town D'Angelo can just take care of them.
  6. IT'S MS-13, MAN. I'll bet another zoot suit riot is right around the corner!
  7. Obviously it can be taken to an extreme with someone like Bradley, but it's [expletive] stories like this to make it really easy to see why some think there's a noticeable racial/racist element that can't be ignored when it comes to being a Cubs player. I mean, really...a Latin alliance is bringing the team down? Really? This is so absurd and stupid all it's missing is someone accusing them of shooting that rancher in AZ, too.
  8. He could have been trying to bunt for a hit? As long as the runner moves over it still counts as a sac bunt. He could have missed a sign? The problem with the "Sandberg is in love with the sac bunt" argument is that the numbers don't support it. Even this year, Iowa has about as many sac bunts as the rest of the teams in the PCL. Does he just love it in bad bunting situations? You keep trying to spin this being only about sac bunts. It's not. It's about Sandberg's general philosophy towards the game based on what he himself has said and how he manages. He loves himself the small ball and the "gritty" play "the right way." Pass. If the Cubs had a stacked team that could overcome that philosophy, great, but given how things are shaping up for the next season or two he's a terrible option. Let him go manage the O's and then he can come back after Hendry is gone and the team is actually good.
  9. As a general rule, most of them are that type of manager. Their job isn't worth near as much as their paychecks, and the media will criticize doing nothing much more than they will criticize trying to make things happen. They feel the need to make an imprint on the game. The key is having the best players so you can win despite a manager trying to screw things up. Yes, this, though I think it comes in handy to have a manager that won't necessarily feel "overly motivated" to make the team their own (usually due to ego) through over-management. Sandberg, to me, just screams of being that type of manager.
  10. Why the hell would a young player in that position take it upon himself to sac bunt?
  11. It's really just morbidly hilarious at this point.
  12. Exactly. Hendry is the main problem behind all these coaching/manager debates.
  13. That's too broad a generalization. The main issues with the Cubs' offense are Lee and Aramis, and those are the hardest types of guys to coach at their ages and points in their careers, if you can at all.
  14. I don't know why you're getting hung up on total sac bunt numbers. The point with the Sandberg incident isn't the general use of a sac bunt as opposed to who he was having sac bunt and what were the circumstances. You keep approaching this like people here are denouncing the sac bunt as some kind of baseball kryptonite. It's just one part of the game and it can be used well. The hit and run can also be used well, but it can also be used very poorly, as we've seen with Lou. I understand we don't know the context of the situations Trammell used sac bunts in during his tenure as the Tigers manager (unless anyone here is a closet Tigers fan?). However, you have to admit that an AL manager having a comparable amount of sac bunts to an NL manager, given an AL manager only has to have a pitcher bat in a handful of games, may indicate that said AL manager may sac bunt inappropriately. Right? I mean, I don't have dew for a first hand testimonial or anything, but you can see why I might jump to that conclusion? I suppose, but Trammel didn't just manage an AL team; he managed a REALLY bad AL team.

  16. This is great. Hopefully it's only the beginning. Bring in that dough!
  17. Fun win. Let's see some more, please.
  18. Great job by Cashner to shut down that rally. Love what I'm seeing from him so far. He made McGehee look silly on that strikeout.
  19. Here comes the moment of truth for Cashner. Go do it, kid.
  20. there probably are because he's a lot better than a black hole (which many utility middle infielders are) at shortstop, but it would help if he would stop playing like a complete turd. You could do worse than Theriot at the 8 spot, but hes just not a leadoff material. Also, if he were a better defensive player, his hitting would be more forgiveable. Fontenot and Baker are both better options at 2nd than Theriot, but for some reason, Lou just cant get enough of him. Some players have a few bad games and their in the doghouse, others get chance after chance. I just dont get it. You're vastly overstating Theriot's value now that he's at 2B. He's simply unacceptable as a starter at this point. A Fontenot/Baker platoon is a much better option.
  21. Castro's 2nd awesome defensive play of the game. I love this kid. Nice job by Russell, too.
  22. Theriot sucks at everything: he just spiked a throw to 1st from shallow right field.
