  1. I'm Rupert Murdoch. Worship me as your god, wooden boy.
  2. It's only a month, which is a lot less than basketball and hockey and the same as football. It's no different than NCAA basketball. Games are being played nearly every day. They put them out there on days that are best for ratings. Starting a game around 8:15 eastern isn't that big of a deal unless you are talking about epic Red Sox/Yankees games, but people still watch those. I still think they should go to that play-in format with 2 wild cards and the 1 seeds getting a bigger benefit. We have had only one knockout games in these playoffs so far which is where all the excitement is. But given the 8 team format I don't think they could do it better. Earlier would be better. Don't argue with me on this; I will destroy you.
  3. I'm just glad they went with a relatively low-key signing. I'm always opposed to "big ego" managers who use their legacies as a crutch like Dusty or Lou, and Sandberg and Girardi would have just been more of that.
  4. I know this is popular sentiment but there is really no reason this team can't contend for the division in 2011. There's a lot to be done. They're not particularly good at anything, besides quality starts. As bad as this division is they really don't need to "do" much in terms of how the team is constructed right now. Adding someone like Dunn would go a long way. Dunn would be a good start, but he's not going to make us a 90 win team. He doesn't do anything to a pitching staff that was one of the worst in the league. The starting pitching was decidedly average. I have no idea why you think it's one of the worst in the league. If you're lumping in the bullpen, fine, but they have a plethora of arms throughout their system that they can use instead of spending money on relievers. Focus on signing Dunn and acquiring a decent starting pitcher and they can easily be competitive next season.
  5. You sound like an old man. So what if a game ends at 12? It's one of the main things killing the ratings year after year, especially of the WS itself. It's fantastic that you want to stay up until 1 watching these games, but too many people don't and the generally declining viewership numbers seem to back that up. Prime time WS generally don't seem to be a good idea. I'm not saying make air them weekday afternoons, but shoot for something like 6 PM instead of 8 PM.

  7. Well, the Monday night's match-up between the Cliff Lee led Rangers and the Yankees in New York was outdrawn by a terrible Monday Night Football game between Tennessee and Jacksonville. I can imagine MLB is dying for the Yankees to make the World Series. Just to contrast with their own stupidity. MLB's handling of the scheduling of the postseason is just laughably bad. What do you think they are doing wrong? Given the 8 team layout they work with, I'm not sure they could do any better. The postseason as a whole stretches on too long, and the scheduling times are ridiculous. Many of the East Coast games (or at least ones that will draw mostly from an "eastern" audience) starting as late as they do is ridiculous. Games simply cannot be ending around or after midnight on weekdays.
  8. I know this is popular sentiment but there is really no reason this team can't contend for the division in 2011. That, and I don't understand why he says the Cubs won't contend but also that he wants them to go out and sign Dunn.

  10. It's not that he necessarily "failed;" it's that in the grand scheme of things he has barely any managing experience at all yet people are expecting the job to be served to him on a silver platter because of who he was as a player. It's hilarious listening to the radio shows where the hosts and callers try to make it sound Sandberg was slighted because he toiled so hard for four whole years in the minors. OH GOD, NOT FOUR YEARS, HOW DID HE EVER SURVIVE.
  11. That's exactly the kind of mewling, obsessive [expletive] that I'm sure gives Ryno a gigantic, balding boner. If he's actually going to burn bridges over this and think that he was "owed" this job right now, then [expletive] him.
  12. Works for me. Better than wasting money on a clod like Girardi, though Quade's hairless visage haunts me in my nightmares.
  13. Just an extension of the feasting on a shitty division mentality that drives them now. I want the whole thing.
  14. TheKapMan: TRUMPED.
  15. [expletive] wanting to be the Red Sox; I'd be the biggest Ricketts fan in the world if he said he wanted this team to be the Yankees.
  16. That's not amazing. The Cubs usually suck and their scattered few playoff seasons have mostly been outliers for the last 65 years.
  17. Only the Cubs what?
  18. Thank the Lord.
  19. OK, now this is pretty great.

  21. If her shorts had gotten any shorter then rape season would have been go.
  22. Meatsluts? Slutballs? Which is it?
  23. Seems weird for them to make the pitching coach, especially one as highly regarded as Rothschild, their big firing.
  24. Those damn sluts.
  25. No doubt. Most of the radio commentary I've heard today is bemoaning this because it "proves" that the Cubs aren't going to change any time soon (ie-it's being lumped in with Hendry not being fired) and how it'll keep Girardi and Sandberg from being manager since they wouldn't be able to pick their own pitching coaches. Oh, boo-hoo.
