Apparently he didn't learn his lesson. Geo had to call timeout before a pitch during Wednesday's game in the 3rd inning, as Castro was out of position(by about 40 feet) over talking to ARAM. He ran back to a normal position. Not surprised the enablers were quiet about it. Even ARAM was mute. When our new GM, new mgr. and new coaching staff takes over, I'm sure this will change. And Geo had to call time for Barney when he was out in center field in the same game. What's the problem here, are we indignant that we're burdening Geo with surveying the infield? Barney was being inscrutable, so it was cool.

Yeah, some people were griping about his "attitude" and "selfishness" pretty much every season he was on the Cubs and they sucked (AKA pretty much every season). "Sammy only coming through for Sammy after it was too late" was pretty common meme, especially after the home run race. Not saying it was the dominant mentality, but it wasn't hard to find/hear, either. My recollection was that Sammy was kind of all flash and no substance prior to learning how to take a walk and really blowing up in 98. But going back to his pre 98 numbers, he was regularly putting up 4+ WAR seasons. As a sidenote, I always remember a friend's dad (Mets fan in NJ) saying he was rooting for McGwire in the homerun race and all his reasoning pretty much worked as code about how it was because McGwire was white. My grandfather was a lifelong Cubs fan, yet claimed he was rooting for McGwire because he thought Sammy was "a jerk." If I pressed him to explain why Sammy was a jerk he'd just say something like, "well, you know." No, gramps, I DON'T know.

And really, a good chunk of sports fan are pretty damn racist. Let's not beat around the bush. The "lazy player" tag is pretty glaring in who it's applied to the overwhelming majority of the time.

You can go straight to hell for lumping PBR in there He forgot about the Beast, but he was right to lump PBR in there. The best shitty beer is still shitty beer. He also forgot Schlitz and High Life. And, of course, Natty Ice.

This is a really weird hope. You're assuming that this season, where he lost a ton of time with a serious injury, is, what, the "real Byrd?" That he's started a sharp decline and there's no chance he has similar numbers to what he's put up over the last 4 season? Why are you so convinced he's effectively useless as a fulltime player? Are you basing this almost totally on his 2011 numbers when it comes to hitting with RISP? You seem to be taking an all or nothing approach with Byrd. He's not a guy you want hitting 1-5. He's useful hitting 6-8.

Is Byrd completely useless? No but if you are not denying his lack of production, why should he play everyday? Dropping him to 6th doesn't change much in my opinion. He is what he is, a free swinger who rarely has a good at bat with runners on base. I just don't understand the need to play him every day. When you're slamming his RISP numbers you are just talking about this year, right? You keep sounding like you're generalizing, like he's always had these troubles. And you don't see how dropping him in the order could lead him still being useful but ideally minimizing his troubles with RISP? Drop him to 7th or 8th. And why not play him every day? He's likely going to be on the team next year, and the guys to play instead of him are Colvin, Campana and Johnson. Why would you want to start any of them in CF regularly over Byrd?

Straight out of the figures lie and liars figure handbook. Those numbers mean very little when he doesn't hit with men on base. You have to score runs to win and Byrd rarely helps that happen. How anyone can deny his lack of production is mind numbing and hysterically funny. .204/.255/.306 with runners in scoring position this year. You can have him on your team, I prefer a better player. I didn't "deny his lack of production." I've stated numerous times I don't want him batting above 6 in the lineup. That said, your suggestion that he not play everyday is a ridiculous overreaction that seems to be suggesting that the only options are to bench or get rid of him. Why are you opposed to simply batting him lower in the lineup? He's not a completely unproductive hitter and still almost a 2 WAR player despite his struggles this year. He's having a bad year hitting with RISP; so your conclusion is that he's all but useless?
