  1. I for some reason though that although part of his salary was deferred, it was just deferred until the end of this year and would then be included with this years budget. Just basically a way to out off the payment rather than making it equal throughout the year. You may be right though. Yeah, I would hope that it wasn't counted against next year's budget since it has to be paid by January 2012.
  2. I blame UMFan. Bad things happen when he posts. I get up to go take a dump and the Cubs follow suit. I WON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN.
  3. I hope that hustle just gave a thousand meatballs fatal heart attacks.
  4. Hopefully Theo can point out to the Ricketts the importance of spending a lot of money. Part of me is still worried is he's going to try and do this on the (relative) cheap and try and keep the payroll below $120 million.
  5. Oh, Aramis. I will weep if you are not a Cub next year.
  6. Isn't it WAY too soon to be declaring that? Hence the bold. Maybe he'll turn it around. I didn't think he was worth anywhere near what he got before this suck-fest of a season. Holy crap; for some reason I thought he was getting like $110 million.
  7. Isn't it WAY too soon to be declaring that?
  8. Explain. I have a feeling you're inflating the reality of the backloaded contracts they have. If Soriano's was spread out equally they'd be saving, what, a million dollars? If Zambrano's was spread out equally they'd save a few hundred thousand. Who has the contracts where the backloading is specifically hampering the Cubs' spending in the offseason?
  9. That's too bad. I was thinking/hoping things were starting to click for him after the 2009 season.
  10. Nobody is. They're just the cherry on top of a delicious, delicious sundae.
  11. Because guys like Fielder and Pujols are available now and the Cubs can afford them.
  12. Yes. We are quite virile and we take our vitamins.
  13. On Kyle's face. I keep expecting it to stop, but it just...won't.
  14. No, we're making spray charts.
  15. Nobody cares what you think. You're boring.
  16. Please ignore Kyle. He's bad for your health.
  17. What am I missing about what happened with Tejada? I thought it would be a perfect example of this exact thing happening, and the team he was on didn't really have (or at least seek) any recourse with regards to violation of terms. Someone help me; I'm lost. [expletive], that's a good point; I forgot about Tejada.
  18. But as I said, both the Yankees and Rangers claimed they knew what was up so neither side accused Soriano of anything that could seemingly impact his contract. My question is if a team claims that they were duped by the player when they signed him do they have options after the fact if it's revealed he's older than he claims?
  19. He moved to the US with his family as a kid in the 90's and got himself set-up in high school then college. I'm pretty sure all the other guys who got busted with visa issues came in with a much different route. Although if the Cubs sign him I'd happily join the group who thinks it's ridiculous to question his age. Personally, I think in the wake of the post-9/11 visa crackdown and given that it's Albert Pujols, that nobody has come up with any evidence beyond "he's Dominican and he's always looked older than he says he is" is the most damning argument against his stated age being incorrect.
  20. In all seriousness, I wonder what everyone who thinks Pujols is older than he claims also thinks that he did to somehow escape the post-9/11 scrutiny that busted several foreign-born players (Soriano was the exception because of the multi-entrance visa he received coming from Japan) who were lying about their ages?
