  1. Well, we don't live in a made up world where impact players have to be worth their entire contract to be valuable. Because they almost never are. Wait, that's wrong; leave out "almost."
  2. When all is said and done Gonzalez will still probably be worth around $15 million this year, so I don't think worrying about someone as talented as him bouncing back at age 30 would be something to lose sleep over.
  3. Too late for that. Aside from the 2nd round pick and despite how early it still is, all indications are that this was an Angeloish type draft from Emery. We should have either done more free agent damage or drafted anyone but Shea at that slot. All he preached was how he wanted to draft immediate impact players and his picks were the opposite of immediate impact. Even a rookie WR needs more time then other positions to develop. i'm ok with the draft. i like jeffery and rodriguez a lot, i think hardin is a specimen. i'm not sold on mcclellin yet. I love Jeffrey don't get me wrong. But rodriguez is a smallish TE (project), Hardin never played Safety in his life (project) and Shea is undersized, lacking strength and experience at DE (project). i wouldn't call rodriguez a project just because he's not the starter, they will utilize him at a couple of positions this year to help immediately. hardin doesn't need to be an impact player because we have conte and wright as the starters. shea is a dude that they've been rotating on on third down to rush the passer and have an impact there. make no mistake, any pass rusher they drafted would have been utilized the same way. there is a learning curve for every single rookie in the NFL, but just because that exists doesn't mean that every rookie is a project. the season hasn't started yet, easy there. Nope, it's too late.
  4. It's different because one player is better than the other and younger. Soriano was a poorly thought out move from day one. Gonzalez is better and only 30 this year; he's the kind of guy you can still build a team around.
  5. On SOSH, they are hearing that the Dodgers will pick up 96% of the salary coming from Boston. I definitely think this is a good trade for the Red Sox, but I'm surprised the Sox fans aren't more upset about losing AGonz after all the fanfare his arrival brought 2 years ago. I know he's underperformed a bit but the dude is still a great hitter and young enough (well..he's 30) to be a contributor 2-3 years down the road. Would you have bailed on the Soriano contract in August 2008 if the Cubs were out of it and not likely to contend in 2009? If you could get a return and not pay most of the contract? Alfonso Soriano would have been 33-year old Alfonso Soriano in 2009 as opposed to Adrian Gonzalez being 31-year old Adrian Gonzalez in 2012. This doesn't seem like the best comparison.
  6. Just stop playing dense. It's been posted numerous times how little money they have on the books in terms of owed payroll going forward, so unless you're acting like you have even less reading comprehension than WSR this is just stupid, even for you. I mean, really; what bad contract could you possibly claim they have at this point besides Soriano's? Unless you think his money somehow magically counts for 4 times what it actually is you're clearly just trolling.
  7. Just admit you have no clue what you're talking about. What about bad contracts is wrong? Soriano is not a bad contract? Rebuilding Wrigs. etc.... This is some ridiculous trolling. They are clearly not burdened by "bad contracts" at this point.
  8. True as it may be, if I must choke down God awful baseball, I prefer to watch palyers that have a chance to play a role in the future, and Hinshaw does not fit that mold as far as I'm concerned. Beliveau does. If they needed the roster spot for someone who really seemed promising, I'd have no problem with it. However, going by minor league career numbers alone, Hinshaw is basically an older, poor mans Beliveau, or a lower-middle class Scott Maine. What the [expletive] are you babbling about. 10 days. 10 DAYS.
  9. Just admit you have no clue what you're talking about.
  10. love love love the all-whites. They haven't worn them since the 09 opener, when Urlacher got hurt, Cutler threw 50 picks, and Mannelly snapped the ball to Garrett Wolfe on a punt. Either Urlacher doesn't get to choose the uniform combo anymore, or he thinks they're cursed. But I, too, love love love them i was at that game You're a stone cold menace.
  11. Yeah, it's a damn shame we're lowering ourselves from the long, illustrious history of victory this team is renowned for.
  12. thefootballknowitall.com, of course.
  13. No. There's an entire thread for the 2013 draft.
  14. Wait, why the hell did Colvin even come up again? Did he finally stop sucking in the second half?
  15. But it's TYLER COLVIN. His 1.4 WAR to Rizzo's 1.0 is just a staggering deficit that likely can never be overcome.
  16. brb, manually changing every no vote in Manager Approval polls to yes Manager for life.
  17. They could have been. Unless you're talking about people thinking the team could flirt with .500 with the team they started the season with.
  18. Clearly, NSBB is a sterling example of success that should, no, MUST be emulated.
  19. I get that; it strikes me as odd to not follow the team at all because of it. I would be like, I don't know, deciding to not follow the Cubs when they stop showing games on WGN.
  20. BELIVEAU WILL BE BACK IN TEN DAYS.
