  1. Sure, Pagan's been a 15 WAR player over the last 4 years and worth about $60 million, but lets [expletive] all over this because arglebargle spending money fire bad something something. And no, I wasn't hoping for the Cubs to sign him, but I'm not quite sure why we're supposed to mock this as such a horrible deal. Even with him being on the wrong side of 30 I doubt they end up overpaying by much.
  2. If only. No, we have to wait for the flood of young manflesh. Sexy as it sounds, it is a rather tedious process.
  3. And now they're right back in trying to put something on the field that doesn't completely suck while also rebuilding. Good for them.
  4. What exactly are the Red Sox trying to do? Improve their team? I meant what's their current strategy? I like the signing and Napoli is a good player. I was more saying with the big sell off last year and rumors that Lester and others are available I was just wondering if they are trying to put a contender out there or sell off and re-tool. Probably trying to put a contender out there AND re-tool. Shockingly enough, teams are allowed to do that.
  5. Why even bring up the fact he used to play for the A's? He hasn't pitched for them since the end of a totally different era of baseball. And his injury history has one serious blemish on it: a TJS from 2008-2009, which he recovered from perfectly fine. If the Braves want to get rid of Hudson it's because he's old and expensive, not because he's got any serious injuries, and particularly none that he developed playing in Oakland. As with most ex-Cardinal pitchers, you have to worry about Haren dying unexpectedly Crushed.
  6. Where's Squirtboy? He deserves some, too.
  7. Man, David, look at all the craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy people. Aren't they craaaaaaaaaaaazy?
  8. The average shelf life of valuable play from a FA is only 2-3 years?
  9. I'm just tired of these not going through with the exception of Soler. This was supposed to be the Summer of George for the Cubs when it came to such things, dammit.
  10. If this ends up being yet another IFA they were sweet on but whiff on signing...I just may cry a little.
  11. Because the Cubs not being "ready to compete" by the start of 2014 is [expletive] inexcusable.
  12. I was pretty meh on it myself and then looked up on BA that Bourn had a 4.7 WAR season in 2009, a 5.3 in 2010 and a 6.0(!) last year (put up 3.0 in 2011) (Fangraphs has him at 4.9, 4.7, 4.1 and 6.4). I was not expecting that at all. Yeah, Bourn has silently been one of the more valuable center fielders in the game. Exceptional defense, solid hitting ability, exceptional base runner, and a knack for drawing a decent amount of walks. But he's 30, and will command an ass load of money and his legs could break down sooner rather than later and that would effectively kill most of the things that make him valuable Wouldn't it just kill some aspects of the baserunning unless we're talking a catastrophic injury? He'd still be a very good defender even not at top speed.

  14. The name refers to the minimum level of drug required to find him funny.
  15. I laughed, but that doesn't help your cause. Sorry. N&G is just doing his thing That's no way to talk about your mother. BOOOOOOM, WICKED SICK MOM BURN. I will now accept all of the high fives.
  16. Not so much a promise as it is a threat.
  17. Kinda love the last line of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusty_Kuntz
  18. No, meatballs are all about the game being played "the right way."
  19. No, nobody thinks you're the baseball version of the Illuminati.
  20. Seattle is hardly the only team that has to do that.
  21. I have no idea why Geech thinks this is so "bizarre." Just because there are other ways to invest in a franchise doesn't make this deal unusual or bad. That you broke down as you did seemingly to justify the argument for buying the team is the thing that strikes me as odd since an investment as owners of the team for 25 years on top of the $2 billion initial purchase would sure add up to a whole hell of a lot more than the projection you put out there.
