  1. For christ sake Well, that, and the idea there's only three players there doing anything. But DeJesus, Schierholtz, Wood, Villanueva, Jackson, Castillo, Valbuena, Soriano, Barney, Russell, and Rondon don't count. Not sure why though. But they don't. It is what it is. Until those players are turned into quality ML players, which is what you're implying, the roster doesn't help Sveum's job. Your original post mentioned nothing about trades and very clearly was implying that there were only three good or productive players on the team. That's clearly very incorrect. He's got quite a bit to "work with."
  2. Well, I'm not really panicking; more just mildly concerned. And I'd still be curious to see an even more specific breakdown as to what pitches he's swinging at out of the zone. Less overall is obviously fantastic, but that still doesn't negate him having a semi-major exploit.
  3. speaking of home runs in Pittsburgh, I'd give my left nut to have that gif of the parrot reacting to Cliff Floyd You can keep the nut. http://s214.photobucket.com/user/cubsgifs/media/cliffparrot.gif.html Man, I totally remember the parrot, but I thought it was on the Ward homer.

  5. Yeah, that was me, and I'd be curious to see what the data shows in that regard. As I said, it's completely based on what I'm seeing and nothing else, but it's struck me how it seems like he's swinging and missing pretty badly on low and inside pitches more than last year. Like you said, I'm assuming that's something that's out on him and pitchers are trying to take advantage.
  6. That's good to hear. Thanks for explaining.
  7. I thought he wasn't swinging at that much garbage. Although a lot of pre-swing noise can certainly affect your view of the strikezone. I'll fully cop to that being a "I KNOW WHAT I'M SEEING" judgement. Seems like he's been swinging and whiffing badly at pitches low and inside a lot more than he should be, but I could very easily be wrong.
  8. . Is that another way of saying what lumafia posted? nope Exactly. But maybe Swem does not know what he's talking about either. Seems like a safe bet. Besides, I'm not sure how this explains why he's swinging and badly missing at absolute garbage for a worrisome strikeout rate. That's the biggest problem right now.
  9. I wasn't disputing they were technically projected to do better; I'm disagreeing with the idea that 4 more wins, especially when you're talking about 72 vs. 76, is a "huge improvement." Going into this season the team was projected only to be slightly better than last year's team. There's little on paper or otherwise that significantly improved this year's team over last year's when both were starting the season.
  10. OK, so apparently Michael Shannon's dad was a professor at DePaul and he was raised in Chicago. If he's a Cubs fan and we can find a picture of him with Cubs gear, well...I think you all know what will happen.
  11. Drop Stanton Add Braun Hate to do it, but that hilariously terrible lineup is too much to overcome.
  12. Done and done. http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/thefw.com/files/2012/01/Michael-Shannon-is-Adorable-300x225.jpg
  13. Some people were. Plenty weren't. I think even the biggest supporters of building "the right way" were pretty iffy on being a bad team in 2014. Right; even most of the people accepting that 2012 "had" to be terrible seemed to be talking like there would be clear improvement in 2013 on the path to them actually being competitive in 2014. Anyone saying they were expecting/fine with/welcoming 2-3 years of terrible baseball are either lying or masochists. On paper, the 2013 team is a huge improvement. Wait, what? Do you have no clue what last year's team was supposed to do on paper?
  14. NSFW Michael Shannon victory capper: TREE, HE IS OUR GOOD LUCK TOTEM. Bring him back tomorrow.

  18. He's pitched 2 days in a row, they may just not want to use him 3 days in a row. And I believe he's already had a 3 day-stretch this season.

  23. I gotta admit; I'm a fan based just on how much of a slob he looks like. Corky Miller. I feel he's been the Red's backup catcher since the 80s. Holy [expletive], that IS Corky Miller.
