  2. Why hockey? I don't follow the sport so I'm actually curious.
  3. What? No he's not; John Amaechi was the first to come out in 2007. It's a big deal whether he plays another second in the NBA or not. Collins Comes Out Jason Collins became the first player in a major American sport to announce that he is gay. This is the ESPN headline. So then you're saying he's not the first NBA player to come out? Of course he isn't. Amaechi was retired when he announced that he was gay. There have also been NFL and MLB players who have come out (or it was revealed) after their playing days were over. Collins is the first active player to come out as gay, hence "IN a major American sport."
  4. Ohhhhhhh, now I see what he's doing. I was too busy to get it, what with all the Valbuena-hating and all.

  6. How do you figure? Your past as a pro athlete isn't erased when you retire. If so, then Collins wouldn't be the first. Others have come out post-career as gay. Who here has said he was the first pro athlete to come out? Isn't that why he's on the front page of every media outlets website? If he never plays again then this is a non story No and no. It's because he's the first technically active player in the four major US sports to come out. And you're trying really, really hard to dismiss this.

  9. why not? Because he likely won't play another NBA game in his career and wouldn't really be the first openly gay athlete in history to play in a major sport? That's unless we're counting the past 8 or so years as him playing which wouldn't be accurate. I'll take back that statement if he goes on to play in the NBA. So if he does happen to play next season you feel it will be okay to celebrate him? Maybe celebrate isn't quite the word, but yes applaud him. But what he's doing now isn't a positive thing unless he plays again? Nevermind he's a pro athlete and a black man, the type of public figure that rarely comes out as gay; no, that can't serve as any kind of positive message or influence or anything unless he's playing next year.

It's like Kyle and touchdown reviews; he's just sitting there on the edge of his seat waiting for the OK to celebrate.
  11. So pro athletes should only be "celebrated" for coming out publicly if they're actively playing? You don't think it can have any kind of positive impact if it happens at the end of their career or after they've retired?
  12. So you don't mind that he is gay you just don't want him to let other people know he is gay? I dont care that he's gay or that he's come out. I compare his coming out however to the other myriad of retired players coming out. This man will not be in the NBA next season. I also don't think he should be celebrated either. By the way, thanks for engaging in such a mature discussion.
  13. Why not?
  14. Yeah, those damn preachy gays.
  15. Actually, it doesn't seem like you really know what he posted at all.
  16. Who exactly are you arguing against or trying to respond to in this thread?
  17. Valid point and I appreciate your engagement in a mature discussion. Love that you try to pull this self-righteous garbage after kicking off your contributions to this discussion thusly: AKA Keep it to yourself, and if people want to hate you because of your sexuality, whatever, just be cool about it.
  18. Really guys, homosexuals should only out themselves when they can meet cubbyvirus' lofty critical standards. THAT'S JUST HOW IT WORKS.
  19. Please post less. Please go back to your home planet.
  20. Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.
