  1. Who is possibly happy about this? Even the doomiest of doom boners isn't going to take pleasure from the nebulous financial position the Cubs are in. I get that people are excited over the farm, but the list of negative things hindering or potentially hindering the Cubs is pretty [expletive] long at this point for the next few years unless those prospects really hit it big.
  2. Look, AF talks about games like he expects bad things to happen; I'm really have no desire to do that with the Cubs and I don't do that. I respond negatively to bad news when it's posted, and unfortunately most of the news about the Cubs that isn't prospect-related hasn't been very good (or worse) for a while. In other words: "[expletive]! This is a dark [expletive] period!"
  3. Yes, and...? I just said you clearly disagree with many of us.
  4. Well, the key thing here is that you obviously disagree that Theo or anyone else is saying that the Cubs don't have a lot of money to play with. You think it's just FA cliches, but a lot of us think there's a lot pointing to things being much more limited for the time being. People react negatively to bad news.
  5. Maybe all of the complaints would be curtailed if the bad news stopped being such a regular thing. It's not like they're occurring in a vacuum. If some prefer to jump through hopes to make it not seem as bad, fine; I don't. It looks like they're in a pretty bad situation right now.
  6. That's the vomit-inducing quote I'd seen prior that made me burn things. Who would have thunk that the glorious happenings of the Cubs being sold and Hendry being fired (and replaced by Theo Epstein, no less) would have actually been the path to Baseball Hell. in fairness, given the debt deal he took, it's pretty questionable whether ricketts ever had good intentions That doesn't seem very fair to us at all.

  8. I dunno, maybe kidding? Go fart out some kind of aquatic bird.
  9. Petition to have the image actually depicting Barney farting the goose into neely.
  10. Castro doesn't have significant career splits, plus he should be getting as many PA as possible. Lake has excellent numbers against LH pitchers in a small ML sample, and he too should be getting as many PA as possible. Barney has no future with the team and can go fart an entire goose for all I care.
  11. And yet another player neely is talking about like they were showing up on all kinds of minor league lists and projections...but weren't.
  12. You're REALLY confusing hoping/suggesting a young player could turn out one way vs. expecting/predicting them to.
  13. Yeah, that thread is for quality beer only.
  14. Pretty sure I hate the sport of baseball at this point.
  15. Basically the one (hopefully) long term bright spot.
  16. Mmmmmmm, Beefy (PS: I [expletive] hate you right now, Rizzo).
  17. Nobody explain it to him.
  18. Plus I'd have to guess that selling bleacher seats is always going to be easier than trying to sell a pair of tickets on the upper deck.
  19. Travis Wood was drafted in the 2nd round. If he was thinking Kerry Wood, that was the #4 pick. That's what I thought he meant at first, too, but the loogy comment makes me think he must mean Wood or he's just REALLY confused.
  20. Travis Wood was drafted in the 2nd round.
  21. That's basically giving Sveum a license to suck with no consequence. So he fits in just fine with everyone else running this godforsaken organization. But questionable pitching decisions and random bunt shenanigans aside I'm not looking to see him fired at this point. I guess I'd still vote "no" in those approval polls, but it's a 55-45 "no."
  22. Come on, you don't remember all of those top prospect lists he was on left and right? Why, he ranks with such illustrious names as Eric Patterson and Adam Greenberg according to neely.
  23. My comment was just in response to how he was saying it like it was some revelation that he thinks Peppers is an older/declining player. That started becoming obvious last year.
  24. I'm concerned about it because getting pressure from the DLine doesn't seem like something that typically develops over time. You've either got the strength/speed to impose your will on the line, or you don't. Not likely to shift very much. I think -- hate to say this -- Peppers is solidly a player in decline now. Why do you hate to say that? It was pretty obvious he's at the end of his career as a Bear; I don't know why this is some kind of revelation.
