  1. I'm hoping Carmelo opts out and realizes it's better to make less with the Bulls and win something than to toil in New York on average teams. I have to imagine there would be several teams with 11M in cap space in better situations to win than the Bulls Winner. We honestly don't have that much truly going for us right now. Not unless/until Rose shows he's back to his prior form. Why would an elite player come here without knowing what to expect out of Rose? Yeah, what to expect of Rose really scares me.
  2. Everyone give me your best hypothetical pitch that the FO could have given Tanaka. I'll pretend to be him, sitting over here playing my Gameboy with Puig.
  3. Not sure why anyone who is a Bears fan would be rooting for them to lose. ETA: Oh, you're intentionally trolling. Never mind. Until Cutler came back you had tons of people here rooting for the Bears to lose out to improve their draft position. It's hardly like I'm making it up that people have been rooting for Chicago teams to lose more in the hopes of getting better a LOT in recent years. It's a crappy situation, but yeah, I'm somehow "trolling" for pointing it out that it sucks because...ah, [expletive] it, I don't even care. Some of you have taken the "I'm gonna be the most analytic, least emotional fan in the room" thing to such an extreme it's like a bizarre version of Stockholm Syndrome. [expletive] off kyle, jesus christ The more you hate it the more it turns me on.
  4. BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK
  5. That too. I get why it makes sense in theory for the Bulls to tank, but like the Cubs it feels like they'd just be putting themselves in a situation where so many things have to go right for it to pay off. It sure doesn't sound like Mirotic is coming over anytime soon, so it doesn't seem like anyone should be planning/hoping around that, and the odds are extremely small they get a really good draft pick with how bad so many other teams are. They'd basically have to scorched earth the roster and fire Thibs to get it done. This is basketball. You need two really good players to be championship contender good and we already have one. Well, maybe they have one. That's the other big issue; what the hell kind of player Rose will or can be going forward. Now concern that he's going to be a lesser player or worse is an argument for tanking, but that would be tanking with a longer timeframe than what we're talking about. Couple that with how I agree that tanking likely drives Thibs away and I'm just not very confident that regardless of how this plays out that it ends well for the Bulls. Like the Cubs, they're stuck in limbo (though some of the major circumstances are different).

It was a defensible position if Cutler was out for the season, since it's a one season tank job where fans assume the current team isn't going to accomplish much and you can pick up a better player for a lost season. The Cubs are a completely different discussion from the current Bears and Bulls. Yes, I get the logic; it doesn't make it any more tolerable. These are shitty times.

I just don't understand caring about this year's Bulls team at all. My heartbreak happened 6 or 7 weeks ago when Rose got hurt. This season is long dead to me. They're not winning a championship...this isn't baseball. So I want to improve their chances of winning a championship as soon as next season. I never said a single thing about "caring" about this year's team; all I did was express how tired I am of rooting for my favorite teams to lose. It doesn't mean it's not the best option for them, but why is it trolling to point out how crappy a situation it is to be in any more than people rooting for them to lose?
  9. SIGH.

  11. Just business as usual for the Bears I mean Cubs I mean Bulls.
  12. Rooting for losing: it's the Chicago way.
  13. I'd rather FDB.
  14. Soooooooo nobody should talk about it unless it's just posting news updates?
  15. If it's true they don't have the money to make a strong offer, then I agree. Otherwise, what may sound like excuse making to some could actually be the lack of whitewashing the complexities of the business and a lack of angry pessimism. Even if they have the money they're still way behind the curve in terms of what they can offer, unless they have the money to basically annihilate any other team's deal.
  16. That's a lot of excuse-making for baseball limbo when it would seemingly be much easier to say "what's mainly out of their hands is how bad the Ricketts are as owners and as such there's not much of a pitch they can make to a FA outside of money."
  17. Olive Garden is the true OG apparently.
  18. More seriously, FWIW, in reference to the battered fan syndrome thing, the last time the Cubs had a farm system this highly regarded, the results were pretty good - be it by trade or the players actually becoming contributors (if not short lived due to injury and awful luck and stuff). It's more the awful luck thing than anything else; I hate that I've effectively become a variation of the "ONLY THE COBS" crowd, but sure as [expletive] seems like having a new FO and new owners has done little to alleviate the sense of "if can go wrong for the Cubs it will go wrong." Hell, if anything, it seems to even gotten worse. I hope these guys kick that feeling right in the balls.
  19. He is, but the racist fan in me trusts the cracker more.
  20. Battered Fan Syndrome. It'll feel like a miracle if one of them pans out.

  22. Holy [expletive], I had no idea this was a card: http://chicagocubscards.info/images/cards/watermarks/0/83/500/8347_1_500x500.jpg I was at that game and it gave Young Me NIGHTMARES. I couldn't play baseball for like a [expletive] year seeing a bloody-faced Andre Dawson staggering around like some kind of wounded Sasquatch.
  23. Holy [expletive], Plesac is finally leaping...home.
  24. Great, we've managed to effectively trick everyone into thinking we're not a major market.
