  1. LOOK AT THE FULL, HAPPY CROWDS. If only they knew, the poor, poor fools...
  2. oh hell yes i promise not to liveblog this but 75 seconds in and the sight of prior makes me want to throw up. "...he's put up some remarkable numbers...especially when you consider he's only 22-years old!" BAAAAAAAAAAAAAARF. And then the weird shot of him showing of his pitches while wearing short-shorts.
  3. Looks like a lot of people said no when their numbers came up. I think we figured they went through something like 25,000 people last year(though that may have been expanding the base moreso than people not renewing. Wonder how many they gave the call to this year. you should call them and tell them that every chance to buy season tickets is sacred and then laugh and tell them maybe you'll give it a shot six years from now "Look, check back in a few years when I have waves of money coming out of my 401k."
  4. That is Fn awesome. I await the day when Jim Thorpe and Jack Johnson unite and return from the grave to punchkick America square in the balls.

  6. Oh God, yeah. I'm addicted to it.
  7. Of course Bonds had a little help along the way. I don't know how to break it to you, but Barry Bonds doesn't control lightning. http://replygif.net/i/595.gif
  8. I'll never leave Active Topics. NEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
  9. The Cubs will not win 60 games this year. Please note that this is also applicable if they win more than 60 games.
  10. EVERY SEASON IS PRECIOUS.

  12. Uhhhhhh, so far the return on trading Garza later is looking pretty great.
  13. La La's got some bigass titttays.

  15. But who is saying that it is? That whole idea is that it's working off of quantifiable data, and the obvious reality is that not everything about the game falls under that umbrella. WAR is just the best effort. I guess I really just don't understand what exactly you're taking issue with; people who use it like it's perfect? Do you think it's been presented that way all along?
  16. I don't think it "muddles" so much as expands on what is very much a work in progress. I mean, do we really care about its credibility with meatballs? All of those variations are just efforts to better refine what WAR can tell us, which is infinitely more valuable/important than whether or not the common whatever embraces it. I mean, wanting it to be "just WAR" seems completely ass-backwards.
  17. Or it feels like a play on the "well, it's called the 'THEORY' of evolution"-argument. Just because some people act like it's set in stone doesn't negate it's value or mean that the people that use it correctly don't understand that it's not perfect. Not at all like that. The problem with war is it's attempt to quantify defense and baserunning. Hitting and pitching stats work because of what they measure, one on one matchups. Football stats don't work because of what it attempts to measure, and the same is true for defense in baseball. But everyone who should know that already knows that; WAR is used as the best metric of overall player value because that's what it is right now. It's not perfect and it's not set in stone, but it's the best available, and the caveats (especially in regards to defense) have been obvious from the get-go; it's very much an evolving thing. The article is just incredibly redundant.
  18. So do you disagree with the idea that this type of criticism is applicable to plenty of other stats besides WAR?
  19. Or it feels like a play on the "well, it's called the 'THEORY' of evolution"-argument. Just because some people act like it's set in stone doesn't negate it's value or mean that the people that use it correctly don't understand that it's not perfect.
  20. I love you.
  21. They could regress some, but they still have a lot of young talent and still have a 24 game advantage from last year over us. Well that's certainly not a thing.
