  1. Probably gets more than 3 hits in the last five games of the series too.
  2. Derek Jeter on that '98 team? That could have been pretty sweet to replace Jeff Blauser with Jeter. Although the only thing that probably would have accomplished is not needing the play-in game (arguably the greatest event in Cubs history from '84-'02). Probably would have helped them make it a little closer in 2001 as well. Maybe Jeter wouldn't have pissed his pants on those groundballs in the 8th inning of game 6 in 2003. But, yes I do know AGon was probably a better SS glove than Jeter ever could of dreamed of being. That's what I immediately thought of as well. Doubt he chokes like Gonzalez did.
  3. It's always something. That's why as awesome as Castro and Rizzo are being, I can't get excited about 2015. We'll fix the outfield and break something else, like we always do. They could always do what Jesse Rogers suggested today and move Baez, Bryant and Castro to the outfield immediately. what in the ever loving [expletive] hahahahahahaha http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/24103/cubs-outfield-plan-need-an-overhaul Enjoy. My favorite part is that he says Kris Bryant should be moved off third because of Mike Olt, but then immediately turns around and suggests Baez or Castro should play third.

  5. Give them as many firsts as they want. Mid-level NBA picks are as worthless as MLB draft picks.
  6. You underestimate Kyle.
  7. You're being VERY generous with what you mean by "bright spots." This is probably the lowest point the organization has been since the current FO took over. If it weren't for Bryant it would be nothing but darkness eclipsing the land. Disagree. Last year was much more bleak. At least Rizzo and Castro have performed this year. And while Olt has some red flags, I'm also encouraged by the slowly declining K rate and massive power he's shown so far.
  8. Good pitching day. With Pierce Johnson looking like he's on his way to Dr. Andrews' table, it would be nice to see Corey Black improve a bit.
  9. Yeah, I never get why people seem to think we'll get some elite arm that can step into the rotation immediately. If that guy exists, the team trading for Shark would want to use him for themselves. Any pitcher we get is going to have some kind of warts, whether it's size (Stroman), injury, or farther away from the majors.
  10. hahhaha that's so perfect because the main thing kyle criticized was his power. [expletive]'s uncanny. He really needs to turn on Javy ASAP.
  11. That's rich. Seriously. People tell Kyle they wish he was dead and don't get banned.
  12. .233/.361/.633 in May so far.
  13. According to ESPN the DR passport is fake. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/10927805/top-cuban-alfredo-despaigne-mexico-false-passport. So he's still going to need to establish residency somewhere. Maybe I'm missing something obvious about the rules for political refugees, but at 28 (since he wouldn't be subject to the draft), can't he pretty much just come straight here? My understanding has been that, because of OFAC, they need to establish official residency in a different country before trying to come to the US.
  14. Almora with three doubles tonight.

  16. And yet none of them really got any worse the following season. Amazing. Yeah, Soriano really lit the world on fire.
  17. His teams were highly flawed because he had no interest in finding players that could get on base. The one truly good team he built (2008) was built on a bunch of career years. The good teams he built on paper (2004 specifically) were ruined by his hand-picked manager. He wasn't very good (although certainly not the worst, as some made him out to be at the time). Although it seems many on this board are suddenly pining for an 80-win juggernaut with a huge payroll. Hendry was pretty good at those. Those "bunch of career years" being the middle IF and Dempster? While not technically a career year, getting what we got out of Edmonds was obscenely lucky, FWIW. I'm still not sure what the hell that was. Also, while not really career years, we did manage to get good-for-them seasons out of pretty much everyone. Ok, but those guys were in their prime putting up the types of seasons you'd expect. It's not like they were an out of nowhere '89 Cubs team. They were a great team on paper. That team had two starters under 30: Theriot and Soto. Most were 31-33. Unless you subscribe to the Dusty Baker theory of player performance, most of those guys were theoretically past their prime.

Soto as well (you'll probably want bring up 2010, but he played in 35 more games in 2008 and hasn't been as healthy since). And when you say the "infield," you should probably be referring to three players: DeRosa, Theriot and Fontenot. And as David mentioned, the Edmonds pickup was lucky as hell. That's a lot of at bats.

  20. Nearly identical wOBA's though.
  21. 19.2 IP, 20K, 4BB. Gerardo Concepcion just may have a future as a reliever after all.
  22. With Hoffman out, I'm starting to lean towards Zimmer. Although given Jackson has been linked to the Cubs for a year, it wouldn't surprise me if they took him.
  23. You could say Doug Fister, but Hendricks' numbers are much better than his ever were in the minors. Edit: Maybe Kyle Lohse too.
  24. I'm surprised Emery actually took one projected for the first round for once. I expected some guy with a 2nd or 3rd round grade that we'd have to talk ourselves into liking.
