  1. Is there any concern Cutler may be seen as a bit of a coach killer at this point?
  2. This sucks, but I'll wait to see what they get for Castillo before completely judging it.
  3. Maybin is an easy choice for me of those 3. Though Bourn's leadoffiness does intrigue me. Maybin isn't a good hitter, though.
  4. Stanley is the read deal. Tough to pass him up. Really starting to like the thought of going 3-4 and taking Fowler and then trying to get a S in the 2nd. I don't know about Collins in the top 10, plus I think the Bears need a S than can really cover. Wait, Ronnie Stanley is a top 10 pick? As a Notre Dame fan, that blows my mind.
  5. uh, can we jump in on that? Unless they'd take Baez, I don't know if it would make sense for us. Uhhhhh, why the hell not? Because Myers is strictly a LF and, as someone mentioned below, has some question marks following a wrist injury. Given that it's still unclear whether Bryant is a LF or 3B long-term, I'd rather not give valuable assets to get a guy who is strictly a LF. At the same time, since Bryant has the potential to be a third baseman, I'd favor keeping him over trading him for Myers.
  6. uh, can we jump in on that? Unless they'd take Baez, I don't know if it would make sense for us.
  7. That's the sense I get. They all seem bitter except Mooney.
  8. What about Fowler? Can play CF (perhaps not well) or LF, only signed for 1 year, and provides some OBP.
  9. It's interesting that all of the local guys seem pretty certain that the Cubs are basically done at this point outside of adding Gomes and Ross. The national guys, on the other hand, have been fairly consistent with the reports that the Cubs are still looking for a big outfield bat. Hopefully the national guys are right.
  10. I'm not really sure what the Braves are doing, but Valbuena and Wood both have years of relatively cheap team control so it seems like they would be interested in them. Cubs would have to give them a legit prospect as well.
  11. That quote really tilts me. I really, really hope that if we hadn't landed Lester it wouldn't have been straight to Operation Shutdown Part 4. But it's moot, so woo-hoo! I'm looking at it going forward. They had said they wanted a "veteran presence" type leader. That very well may wind up Ross and/or Gomes. But the FO knows those guys aren't moving the needle on win projections either. It's not likely another FA SP would either. So it does have me hopeful of one more rather meaningful move this offseason. Granted, we'll be buying at the deadline, so it's definitely plausible to see us holding off on anything big for now. And Im fairly certain if we had been told on November 1st we could skip to April 1st and be given Lester, Hammel, and Montero, the vast majority of us would have jumped at it. That said, it really seems like they're not ready to deal our top prospects yet. Could we get a very good rental guy using some combo of Castillo, Wood, Valbuena, and Vogelbach? Because I think that's honestly the ammo I think we'll be using if we DO find a nice upgrade somewhere. Braves should be interested in Valbuena in an Upton trade. They're currently starting Chris Johnson at 3B.
  12. Wittenmeyer just posted an article saying that the Lester signing doesn't mean the Cubs are on a "spending spree" and they're likely done with any impact moves for the rest of the offseason. And with that, I fully expect the Cubs to acquire Justin Upton tomorrow. http://chicagosuntimes.com/sports/signing-lester-isnt-a-sign-that-cubs-are-on-spending-spree/
  13. I think Anderson would be a good gamble based on our pitching depth. It's unlikely he makes it through a whole season, but we'll have Wada, Turner and hopefully someone like Pierce Johnson ready to step in when needed.
  14. I'd rather have Brett Anderson anyways.
  15. The days of hoping for guys like Junior Lake to contribute are over. It's time to focus on real baseball players.
  16. Only if they're not smart. Just by waiting a month, you gain an entire year of control. Even if Bryant is worth 2 more WAR (he won't be) than Valbuena, that's about 1/3 of 1 win. Just wait the month. Angering Boras could cost you more long-term, especially if Bryant had a great ST. Boras understands the system. And either way, Bryant is going to be a free agent and go to the highest bidder.
  17. Lol. Incarcerated Bob is getting in on the fun too.
  18. No matter what, he'll belong in the board hall of fame.
  19. So basically Lester is still holding out for the Red Sox to match the other offers.
