  1. I know he's K'ing quite a bit still, which you never like to see (especially in A ball), but it's more just the overall talent rather than numbers that I'm looking at. He's showing power, speed, and even if it is off a bit, pretty good average. For a catcher to potential in all 3 of those categories along with being a solid defensive guy, it is very exciting.
  2. Jones is nearing .275...just incase anyone is wondering, he's hitting .306 with an .803 OPS this month. Actually that probably went up tonight. Fake Edit: Okay yeah, i looked it up on Cubs.com which actually has tonights stats updated already, and he's now .321 with an .836 OPS for the month of may. He's also hitting .344 at Night compared with .184 during the day, with a .280 point difference in SLG as well.
  3. Tony Womack=slightly better version of Freddy Bynum right now. And Bynum actually showed a flash of life tonight...
  4. How do you like seeing a catcher with a good average (.365) who's got good power (2 HR in the past 2 games) and can steal a base....(5 on the year)?? Personally, I love it. This kid has got some talent. Eric Patterson the only real good night for West Tenn, as they got 4-hit by Thompson and Abraham for Mobile. E-Pat with 2 doubles, going 2-4. Reyes and Cates each threw in a single. Sing was 0-3 with a BB, 3 K. Ouch.
  5. Some notables from Daytona/West Tenn games... Jake Fox, 3-4, 2b, 3b, 3 RBI Luis Montanez, 2-5, HR, 4 RBI Scott Moore, 2-4, HR, RBI Sam Fuld, 2-3, 2b, BB, RBI As for Peoria... Norwood 2-4 Reed 1-4, HR *If Geovany Soto keeps hitting over .250 for the entire season, there is no reason he shouldn't be our backup catcher next season. He's a better hitter than Blanco is now, and he's solid defensively. He'd be cheap too, and we have some more catchers coming soon that could use some playing time at AA and AAA (Fox, Reyes, Richie) so it would do some good to get Soto out of the way.
  6. Attaboy Mark...he needs to keep hitting well. He's got the talent...he needs to put up some numbers this year.
  7. I'm not sure why no one is making a big fuss over this kid, but I know that he's done nothing but rake everywhere he's gone. Even a brief stay in the bigs last year had him producing fairly well. Maybe it's the fact that he plays 1b and there isn't a high demand for 1b with such little major league experience. I mean, lets face it, not many clubs want to hand over 1b (an expected offensive force in the lineup) to a rookie during a potential playoff run. I see stats with this kid, I've never seen him hit. His stats are darn good though, and from all accounts, he can flat out rake. I don't care who it is, a career 1.011 OPS is nuts, no matter what level. That's similar to Pujols' career OPS in the bigs. Say he loses .100 off that just from the jump to the bigs. He's still a solid hitter...Lee's career OPS is .866. Okay so maybe "amazing" is pushing it. Right now though, Lenny Harris looks "amazing" compared to the offense that's been out there for our club, and this guy is a far cry from Lenny Harris.
  8. Dope's best OPS was in '04, when he put up at .956 in single A ball. Shealy has a career minor league OPS of 1.011 over 4 years (not including this year) His career OBP is .417. Dope's highest, again, was in .363 in '04. Shealy even had an .886 OPS in 90+ ABs in the majors last year. Him being in the way of Dope shouldn't be an issue at all. He's an amazing hitter.
  9. Well this guy can absolutely rake...and if he could even play a Dubois-esque OF, he could be a big part of the team for a few years. If the Rox are willing to take a Rich Hill for Shealy trade...bye Rich...
  10. Mark Reed playing some 3b today, huh? Not bad to see. I hope that's more of them just needing him in the lineup with the injuries more than him not playing C due to lack of skill back there...
  11. Maybe if he was doing this at AA...which he should be 8) Oh well. We could use some pitching too....
  12. 2-4, BB, HR tonight for Fox. .348 with 10 HR not even midway through May.
  13. I don't need no stinkin media guide :P I called him and Dope over by name...you could tell dope wasn't expecting that. It was pretty cool, both seemed like good guys.
  14. Oh i know it's definitely not the kiss of death if someone happens to be 24 and in single A...he could just as easily go up to AA to finish the season...and start next season at AAA, putting him right on track and it would never be brought up again. However, being 24, putting up those types of numbers, all while repeating the league...those aspects combined concern me. If he's putting up great numbers, he's been here before, and he's not terribly young, why not move him up? There's obviously something they are working on with Fox...or maybe they're giving Richie a chance to prove himself in AA?? I still think he'll be in AA by mid June if he continues this hitting...
  15. The guy is on fire...no doubt about it. Maybe they'll let him get a couple months of good ball under his belt before sending him up...but it will be done before the ASB, I am fairly confident in that. I hope these numbers are a sign of the light sort of coming on for this guy rather than just being inflated due to repeating this league. However, he did well in ST, so I think it's more of a breakout season for Mr. Fox. He's got to advance fairly soon, b/c 24 at A ball doesn't catch anyone's attention, regardless of numbers. He's been one of my favorites since he was drafted. I got his autograph when he played for Lansing (while he was in Peoria against the Chiefs). Seemed pretty nice, he seemed surprised I knew his name...I mean come on, visiting team single A players aren't always picked out easily lol.
  16. I've been wondering this myself...Fox had a HR, and 2 SF's today for 3 RBIs, upping his total to 22 on the year with 8 HR and a .340 AVG. From all accounts, he's improved his defensive issues that were at one time considered fairly bad. If defense is no longer an issue (while it may not be a strong suit), he should no doubt switch with Richie. Besides, Fox could be a useful piece to the puzzle in a year or so if he continues this. Catcher's that hit for power and walk at a decent rate (13 in 103 ABs before tonight, compared to 22 K) are a valuable commodity. He could be our next guy behind the dish, or he could be a big part of a trade. Whatever the future holds, just don't let him rot away down at single A while he could at least be in AA. Maybe with a good spring, they just wanted him to build up a little bit of confidence back in Daytona so he could handle the jump to West Tenn.
  17. maybe i'll actually be able to watch it on tv tomorrow. hopefully we dont play football for TOO long. maybe i just have to refrain from posting after 11:00... 8)
  18. if everyone would please excuse the stupidity on my part tonight, we could make this into an actual thread again...lol
  19. are you drunk? :) haha i wish. at least then i'd have an excuse for not being able to read.
  20. wow. long day. ouch. is it saturday yet?
  21. who runs from 3rd to first?
  22. usually when i try to go from 3rd to 1st...people just laugh at me and feel bad for me so they let me go back to 3rd  seriously though, you have to be aware of the situation...
  23. I believe he's played a bit of 3b, and I think some DH when he was up with the D-Rays. Maybe even some OF?
  24. Mark Reed. I still like the type of potential he has, and the fact that he's a catcher. He's got skill...just needs to show his talent.
  25. That's because he got a bigger signing bonus with Texas and could afford to do both. Haha, that probably didn't hurt
