  1. Sure, but they will still need to experience the actual games too. You can't totally substitute game experience with practice. The Vikings receivers will have that same adjustment period with either Favre or Rosenfels. Honestly, I'd go with Tarvaris Jackson over either of them. He has the most upside and probably won't be significantly worse than either. Let him try to develop or pull a Titans and bring in a decent veteran who won't do anything great, but also won't make major mistakes (Gus Frerotte perhaps?). They had Frerotte last year.
  2. You could argue that, sure. But people tried saying that last year too. The Bears, with Cutler, are much better than they were last year. I'd give the edge to Minny, just because I anticipate a growing period with Cutler. Doesn't mean the Bears won't win it though. What's their to grow? It's not like getting a new QB is throwing off all the offensive chemistry. The team has had 3 different QBs start the majority of its games the last 3 years. And it's not like Cutler is inexperienced and will need a ton of time to learn the offense. He should be fine to run the entire playbook by opening day. And a lot of his success comes from extending plays anyway. If their is a growth period w/ Cutler the same can be said with Rosenfels or Favre, even with playing for Childress years ago. It'll take growth from the WR to adjust to Cutler. The receivers will invariably drop lots of balls that hit them right in the hands because they're busy jumping into the air or diving to the ground where they're used to seeing the ball end up. Also, Hester will stop dead in his tracks awaiting dead ducks instead of continuing routes so he can run right under them.
  3. You could argue that, sure. But people tried saying that last year too. The Bears, with Cutler, are much better than they were last year. I agree. Minnesota SHOULD be better than they are. To take a running game and a run defense that dominant and barely scrape by in a weak division and then get knocked out in the first round is pretty sad.
  4. Here's what I'm talking about regarding Rosenfels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmY_bkpbyME
  5. And if you're worried about ball security, Rosenfels is even worse in that regard than Favre. His body isn't broken down and maybe he'll get better but he makes some absolutely boneheaded plays. Look at the Houston/Colts game last year for some of the worst decision making an NFL QB has made in years...and that's including Rex.
  6. You can reasonably argue that Minnesota is the division favorite whether Jackson, Rosenfels, or Favre are the quarterbacks next season. They're loaded everywhere.
  7. Doug Glanville weighs in on ARod tipping pitches to opponents: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/06/opinion/06glanville-tipping.html
  8. Just saw the crawler on ESPN: Favre to meet with Childress to discuss coming out of retirement to play for the Vikings. And so it begins!
  9. ](*,) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/1556493,CST-SPT-bear04.article Is this bad because you think Vasher has nothing left? I thought Graham was fairly decent last year even by the poor overall play of the secondary.
  10. David Lee is a horrible defender.
  11. I wish the Bulls had SVG. Howard makes a huge difference but Orlando is a team that understands how to play team defense with pretty average athletes (again outside of Howard). Tyrus Thomas could use some of that coaching.
  12. Depends on your definition of decent. I think there's a decent shot that you could say "I'd rather have Derrick Rose than Dwyane Wade" sometime in the next 2-3 years and have it seem totally reasonable.
  13. http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/05/a-rod_book_faq.html The funniest nugget: Is the book really all that salacious? We had heard she gets into A-Rod attending swingers clubs and what not. Not really. Roberts does touch on A-Rod being spotted at a Dallas-area “couples-only lifestyle club” called Iniquity, but if there was truly dirty stuff in here at one point, the HarperCollins lawyers appear to have scrubbed it out. There’s still plenty of embarrassing A-Rod With Ladies dirt, though, including: 1. At functions involving Yankees and their spouses and families, he once used several pickup lines on players’ wives. When confronted, he claimed he was joking. 2. At clubs, he has been known to approach women by saying, “Who’s hotter: Me or Derek Jeter?” 3. At one point, Roberts describes A-Rod, as his marriage to Cynthia Rodriguez dissolved, as an “insatiable hedonist.”
  14. I don't think AST-TO ratio is very relevant for shooting guards, especially when their primary duty is to score. I think Gordon is a really valuable player, but I understand his limited appeal. I'm kind of intrigued by a bigger lineup with Salmons at SG and Deng at SF, but does anyone trust Deng to stay healthy? If Gordon isn't resigned, the SG-SF depth is really thin. On a totally different note, given how the Bulls got hammered on the boards by the Celtics, I'd love to see the Bulls find a way to draft Dejuan Blair. I don't trust Deng to be any good even if he is healthy. If you can convince 06-07 Deng to come back then I'm all on board with letting Gordon walk and moving Salmons to SG. Blair would be a nice addition.
  15. Tebow was robbed.
  16. Not with its decided schematic advantage.
  17. 1. Notre Dame 2-120. Various
  18. Russell might have a stronger arm from one arm slot and with his feet properly set. He still takes longer to get rid of the ball than Cutler. I'll take Cutler's arm when moving up in the pocket, on the run, or without having his feet set over anyone's.
  19. Let him walk and use the money you save to trade for a big. John Salmons can replace 85% of what Gordon did offensively and is much better defensively. You need to allocate your resources, and with Salmons signed to a good deal, Gordon is a tab bit redundant. Don't get me wrong, I really like Gordon, his is the only current Bulls jersey I know, and I know hes a terrific offensive player. But we have to be smart here, and being smart is using our money to trade for a low post player like Bosh if available. If no good post players are available, I'd hold onto that money for 2010. That's kind of my feeling as well. If they let Gordon walk, though, it's probably going to be VERY ugly in the beginning of the season until they learn to adjust without him.
  20. Pacquaio actually ended up drawing against Juan Manuel Marquez in a fight where he won the first round 10-6. A lot of people thought Marquez won that fight although it wouldn't have been a draw if one of the judges didn't mistakenly score the round 10-7 instead of 10-6. Interestingly, Marquez is Floyd Mayweather's next opponent.
  21. So what do you guys think about Ben being a free agent? Off the top of my head, this is the biggest decision Pax will have to make since he's been the GM. There's valid arguments both ways. It's a risk to let him walk but there's a risk in keeping him as well. Does it hamstring the development of the team as a whole to keep him? Will Tyrus and Luol ever step up without him? I keep going back and forth on this one.
  22. So long, Ben. You're going to be deadly when you can find a team with a post presence or who knows how to get you semi open looks.
  23. Fight is tomorrow night! http://www.nowboxing.com/wp-content/uploads/pacmanweighin2.jpg http://www.nowboxing.com/wp-content/uploads/hattonweighin2.jpg http://www.nowboxing.com/wp-content/uploads/pacquiaovshattonweighinpic.jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdH-Ot87rsE&feature=PlayList&p=919C25114112BC9A&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=3 That's the first episode of the always entertaining 24/7 prefight documentary series. You can find the rest of them on YouTube as well. Anyone else watching? Anyone else even care? This will probably be better than the biggest hyped fights of the last few years--mainly because Oscar De La Hoya isn't fighting. Prediction: Pacquiao by UD. I think he'd win anyway but because it's boxing I'm going to assume the fix is in so a potential Pacman/Mayweather fight isn't derailed. That's the biggest potential fight out there by a mile.
  24. All this legendary series talk is dumb. It's exciting, but you hit it on the head. It's two mediocre teams who happen to match up well. If these were two teams with ambition to play for, then maybe, in their current states it's a joke. Are you still peddling that ridiculous "lol the Bulls are so bad they are better off in the lottery!" meme? Maybe that held water a few months ago and I'm not saying the Bulls are by any means a great team--or a very good one. But you put the team out there now and have them play a full season and it's a 50+ win caliber team. Nothing to write home about but they shouldn't be ashamed about sneaking into the playoffs any more.
  25. Reading this thread after the fact is a joy.
