At best the Bulls can offer equal or less money to any of the FA targets. So of course how good the roster is currently plays a role. It's different for every guy but it has to go into the equation. Supposedly these guys care about winning so if you can't beat anyone on price you better bring some other things to the table. It's just nutty to assert that the talent level of the team, reflected in its conference standing, doesn't make a difference. And if we didn't sign a single FA the experience for Rose and Noah alone in the playoffs is valuable. I think that was clearly illustrated last year. Those were big, pressure packed games that generated a ton of national interest. Game 6 was voted the Playoff Game of the Decade and the series as a whole were voted best of the decade on some TNT special they just ran. That has value to the guys on the team. You can't tell me the front office didn't learn anything about Noah in that series. And aside from all that, I have no clue as to why you wouldn't care if a team you're ostensibly a fan of makes the playoffs. They can be outrageously entertaining on its own merit.

I still maintain that making the playoffs is important in the FA beauty contest and should at least be a consideration when making deals. Cutting salary is more important but there needs to be a viable team left. Plus I just love the playoffs and last years was awesome.

It's not out of the realm of possibility that McGrady could go somewhere, play well for 30 or so games, and sign a 1 or 2 year deal in the offseason for reasonable money.

What the hell are the Clips doing here? Salary dump. They can offer a near max deal now with only Gordon, Kaman, Griffin, Davis, and a pick under contract for next year. If they weren't the Clippers I'd say they've got a potentially very good core. They'll be tanking the rest of the year for sure now.

Unless we had a sign and trade, that's correct. That's a bummer. I'm slightly surprised that we can't unload Hinrich...he's been playing well and seems like he's exactly what the Lakers need plus he's got a declining contract. People are probably hung up on his overall numbers he was probably the worst player in the league the first month of the season.

They must be really concerned about Salmons opting in. I figured that had a small chance of happening. We can't even target ONE max FA if we still have to pay Salmons right?

I wouldn't be stunned if Kentucky made the Final 4 or anything. They're pretty good. Sometimes you don't win every game by 20 points and sometimes you fatten up on a weak schedule and make deep tourney runs. Calipari did it at Memphis and Florida did it in the SEC.

Are we really clearing any more cap room under the rumored terms wrt to TMac? It seems like the deal is to insure that we don't have to pay Salmons next year if he decides to opt in.

I used to sort of hold my nose when people talked about signing David Lee but considering he'll be quite a bit cheaper than Boozer or Amare, you could do a lot worse. I figured he was sort of a glorified energy man who got cheap stats in D'Antoni's system, and he is to an extent, but he's pretty legit--can finish with either hand around the bucket, good midrange jumper, and he's got a few moves and good footwork down low. You do have to hide him on defense because he's is pretty atrocious although the Knicks have such horrible perimeter defenders and such overall team stupidity its hard to tell how bad he really is on D.

Shannon Brown was a huge disappointment in the dunk contest. To me, he is just like JRich circa 2002 and could've thrown down some sick dunks. Can't believe those guys had such vanilla crap prepared. I think some of them flat out choked and had much better stuff in practice.

Between the SNES game, the commercials, wearing his hat backwards in the Derby, Junior was definitely The Man amongst kids in the 90s. Bonds just didn't resonate nearly as much. Thomas was probably #2 although quite a ways off from Griffey's shine though.

I don't think there's any reason the Saints wouldn't want him back at a reduced rate. He's a perfect fit there with Sean Payton and Brees and I think he'd probably take less than market value to stay. But if he gets on the market the Bears should definitely inquire.

I wish they showed the part right after where Scottie walks right up to Spike Lee and starts jawing at him. That's a good list of dunks too. The Tom Chambers one is so unbelievable.

Devin Brown was a starter for the Hornets and averaged 9 points. That's how good Chris Paul is.

Shiancoe is a very good red zone weapon but he won't get more touches than Harvin. Harvin gets touches in all phases of the game and I bet he'll run the ball more next year too. I think he pretty much exceeded any reasonable expectations people had of him. He was pretty damn polished for the pro game coming out of that Florida offense. The reason I'll say that I would trade any two Bears receivers for him is because I don't think Bennett and Devin A. are guys that can't be replaced easily. They would be 4th and 5th receivers on the Vikings, at best. Knox is a talent but I would give him and Hester up for Harvin as well. He still needs a ton of work...right now he just runs by guys. Harvin is a potential top 10-15 offensive weapon in the entire league, IMO and offers a ton of versatility. Hester has never been an effective receiver and return guy in the same season and Harvin did it his rookie year.

Harvin was the #1 player in high school, one of the best players in college, and was effective as a #2 receiver, wildcat runner, and a returner. He's very, very good. I admit I'm high on him but I think he's a perennial pro bowl caliber guy. He came out of a very un-pro style offense and was a big weapon his first year as a pro when many rookie WRs don't do much of anything. He does have a tendency to get hurt though. If he can stay healthy he'll be right there with Desean Jackson next year.

No, it's because you think the Bears receivers are acceptably good. They're not. Maybe all we can do is hope they can be in the future but they're not at the moment. If you called up the Vikings and offered Devin Hester and Johnny Knox (or Bennett or Devin A.) for Harvin they'd laugh in your face.
