If he is going to play this dramatic game that potentially costs us top FAs because we court him for too long and they lose interest in Chicago and sign elsewhere, I'd rather just not go after him. It's an incredibly douchey thing to do but you really don't want him any more? Somehow I think if/when Lebron is dropping 40/12/13 on the Bulls next year on some other team you'll think not wanting him because of an offseason ad campaign will seem pretty silly. I don't want him if he's going to make this whole FA thing into a big extravaganza that lingers until mid-August. I'd rather try to scoop up Bosh and sign and trade for Johnson, then make LeBron the number 1 priority, sit around and wait until August, see Bosh goto LA in a S+T for bynum, see Joe Johnson go to New York, Wade stay in Miami with Amare, and then finally LeBron "decides" to stay with Cleveland after his big dog and pony show, leaving us fighting with the Knicks for Carlos Boozer and David Lee. Now if we could scoop up Bosh in a sign and trade on July 1st, and decided we were going to wait for LeBron, I'd be ok with that. We just can't take the risk of striking out by putting the ball in the court of Mr. Ego. Well I agree with that. We can't go after Lebron to the exclusion of everyone else--although it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to miss out on giving Joe Johnson a bad contract. I'd rather just wait on Melo next year.

Yeah well, baseball needs to think about baseball in the present, instead of what might happen in the future. There is no guarantee that Galaragga will ever get another chance like this, so for the ump to take it away like he did, is unacceptable. As for the future, you take it case by case. Right now, MLB needs to overrule the call and award the young man a perfect game. If everyone involved in MLB can't come to an unspoken agreement not to use this as some precedent for protesting other end of game calls then I have no faith in humanity. It's so cut and dry. Don't be a huge tool and there will be no negative precedent set.

We've gotten outshot by 5+ shots every game this series, we haven't scored a power play goal in the entire series, we've given up 3-4 PPGs this series, we got manhandled in the faceoff zone to pathetic levels. The first 2 goals we scored in the game weren't exactly good looks. In fact, from my view of the game, we didn't get very many good looks all night, with a few notable instances. The Flyers are manhandling us in the crease. Leighton is giving up huge rebounds, and we cannot get our stick on them at all. So now the only faceoff numbers that matter are from tonight's game? And you really don't think the Hawks PP is going to be better? You don't think they're going to convert better around the net? And you think the Flyers are going to keep up their power play numbers? Seriously you guys are overreacting like mad. I didn't say only faceoff numbers matter. I pointed out that we got outshot for the 3rd time out of 3 games this series. In the regular season we allowed the least SOG in the NHL and outshot our opponent like 80% of the time. I realize the playoffs and the SCF are a different animal altogether, but it's hard to see us getting outshot every game, even if we've been winning them. We're winning but not winning the way that got us here. I am not sure the Hawks PP is going to be better. They were middle of the road in the regular season. I mean I'm sure if you give them enough opportunities they'd eventually score something, but our PP is not going to be a difference maker in the series, but I knew that going in. I don't think they will convert better around the net. Pronger and his Defensive mates have been doing a phenomenal job of not letting the Hawks get their sticks on any of those rebounds. The Hawks are in position most of the time, but the Flyers are getting to the puck or lifting the Hawks stick first. That's not necessarily a fluke, that's skill by the Flyers. We might have to win without much help from cleaning up rebounds (except Hossa's goal last game). Now the Flyers PP numbers I'm not AS concerned about for the rest of the series. Just because the Hawks have had such a good PK in the playoffs before this series. But this series, and especially tonight, I saw Hawks out of position, I saw the Flyers being able to sneak passes to open shooters, I saw the Hawks have a lot of difficulty clearing the puck. So if you put a gun to my head I think the Hawks will clean up the PK. And yes I realize I'm overreacting. Actually I wouldn't call it that, more like being a pessimist in terms of only pointing out bad things we did tonight. Overreacting is lamenting on how we blew this opportunity and "50 years without the cup" after losing for the first time in 3 games of the series. I still think we are going to win, but I'm quite a bit less certain after tonight. Basically there was no way the Hawks were going to lose where you wouldn't freak out.

i think we're more concerned that we're not outplaying the flyers when we should be. Maybe if we asked nicely the Flyers would trade positions with us. I mean you'd be down 2-1 but at least you've played prettier hockey!

I think MLB has to reverse the umps decision. The runner is clearly out. Leyland and whoever needs to fly to major league baseball and demand they reverse the call and give Armondo the much earned perfect game. They won't. They should. But they're scared of setting a precedent.

But what are those resource advantages? When I was growing up Illinois was definitely an after thought for football players. If that's all you could get, you'd go, but there were bigger and better options in and out of the Big Ten. Their stadium sucks. They hold no national cache. And they even occasionally take the back seat to their little brother in Evanston. Illinois is in a tough spot. If they could find the next up and coming genius, that guy isn't staying there very long unless he's an Illini diehard. They need a recruiter to attract talent, as the school can't attract it on it's own. Big state, good conference, good media market, always on TV. The stature of Illinois isn't what it should be precisely because they haven't made the right hires. If they find the next up and coming genius he'll leave the program in better shape moving forward and the job will be more attractive. Zook is just going to leave a mess for the next middling retread to fail at fixing. There's no reason, other than stupidity, that a school like Cincinnati--which is undoubtedly a less name program than UI-- can hire someone like Brian Kelly while Illinois ends up with Zook.
