  1. I really want no part of Kearns' one-year wonder-esque high BABIP from 2002. This season, even after his time in AAA, he has an OBP of .332 and an average of .245. That's way too Burnitz-like for comfort. Presuming Adam Dunn is unavailable, I might be interested in Griffey -- even as injury prone as he is -- for a corner OF. Otherwise, I have no interest in any Red OF not named Adam Dunn. And Weathers looks like one of the English Hanoverian Kings: squat and ugly with bulging eyes. No thanks. ME THROW BALL... Anyway, I know aout Kearns but he plays solid defense and has pretty much raked in Wrigley for his career-(maybe I'm just haunted by the homerun last year....basta....son of...) anyway-any other options we could get for that package? Hill+Williams+Welly should net us a good player to man RF-any ideas?
  2. Yeah I would also-just throwing names out-I can't believe Giles would be an option b/c of the SoCal influence and the money the Dodgers have to spend-but any way, I wonder if the Angels would be interested in dumping G. Anderson's contract or maybe even Colon's? The only way we get an impact bat in the offseason is via trade-But what trade makes sense out there? I can't get away from the sinking feeling we are going to end up with Soriano-I mean the guy is ok but just not what we need-KEEP WALKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also wouldn't be opposed to a deal for Juan Pierre-with all the talk about Delgado moving in Fla maybe a 3-way can be worked? Or we could just send D. Lee back to Fla for Pierre and Delgado(*ducks and covers) D.Lee+Cpatt for Pierre and Delgado Deal Hill+Williams+Wellemeyer for Kearns+Weathers CF-Pierre(4) 2B-Walker(2.5) SS-Nomar(5) 1B-Delgado(10) 3B-Aram(10) Rf-Kearns(4) C-Barrett(4) LF-Murton(.3) Total=39.8M Sign Burnett 4/40 Sign BJ Ryan 3/18 Re-sign Dempster Burnett(9) Wood(12) Prior(6) Z(5) Maddux(9) Total=41M+39.8M=80.8M Ryan(5), Dempster(3), Williamson(2), Ohman(.4), Novoa(.3),Wuertz(.4), Weathers(2)=13.3M Bench:Perez(2),Hairston(2.5), Cedeno(.3), Grieve(.3) Blanco(1.75)=6.85 Total payroll of 92M-I'll take that team-all day-
  3. How would everyone feel about Steve Finley for a year? I know he has had a down year but he has been hurt-How about Patterson+Williams+Novoa for Finley+Donnelly? put Finley in CF as a stopgap to Pie-sign Furcal+Nomar(LF) and give RF to Murton- SS-Furcal Cf-Finley 1B-Lee 3B-Ramirez LF-Nomar 2B-Walker RF-Murton C-Barrett Bench:Hairston+Perez+Cedeno+Blanco+Branyon
  4. I really don't see Giles as a legitimate option b/c of his obsession with the west coast- i would explore a trade with Minny-they will want more pop and have some pieces that are getting a bit expensive: Minny needs: 2B(offensive) to move Jacque Jones, and probably Shannon Stewart and maybe JC Romero-is there a package we could put together that could help get these guys? Maybe a Cpatt+Hairston+Barrett+Van Buren for Stewart+Jones? just thinking out loud-no need to flame. Minny could be a good trading partner in the offseason-Radke is owed alot of money as well- Maybe a 3-way involving Texas? Minny=Soriano+Cpatt+Welly+Dellucci Texas=Radke+Rusch+Walker Cubs =Stewart+Romero+Jones Minny's payroll drops 6M but they don't really lose anything-they could alocate that 6M to a starter Texas's payroll stays about the same but pick up 2 starters and a 2nd baseman-I hate to lose Walker but you have to give to get- Cubs payroll rises 6.5M but we pick up 2 starting OF and a lefty who is dominate for the bullpen- Re-sign Nomar-and.........*nauseus* Neifi-call up Cedeno as a backup IF- Let Hairston and Neifi platoon at 2B-or play some LF/CF-(Hairston) Sign BJ Ryan-Timlin-Millwood and lets go RF-Stewart(7M) CF-Jones(6M) 1B-Lee(8M) 3B-Rammy(10M) SS-Nomar(5M) LF-Murton(.3k) C-Barrett(4M) 2B-Perez(2M) Prior(5)-Zambrano(5)-Maddux(9)-Wood(12)-Millwood(7) BJ Ryan(5)Dempster(3)Romero(3M)Ohman(.3k)Wuertz(.4k)-Novoa(.3k)-Van Buren/Guzman(.3k) Hairston(2.5M)-Blanco(1.5M)-Grieve(.4k)-Cedeno(.3k)Branyon(2M)-Macias-(1M) 100M payroll-I don't like Jones but Stewart has always been a solid leadoff guy- that is pretty solid team-
  5. As much as I would love to have Giles it just doesn't seem logical-I mean, he loves the west coast and teams like the Dodgers, Angels, and maybe even Mariners will line up to get him-we would have to overpay to get him to come to Chicago-My guess is he is a Dodger on opening day-you don't think Depodesta has noticed that .400 obp clip-and he has some $$$ to throw around this offseason- MOre likely our outfield will add through trade-Klesko is an interesting option although i believe he would veto through no-trade any deal away from socal. Dunn is not going inside the division unless it is to Houston :( I really think Cpatt is on the market this offseason with a combo of highly rated players to provide an enticing package to teams looking to move an OF with some salary- The guy I would love to put in between Lee and Aram is Garrett Anderson-I know he makes alot of dough but his numbers in Wrigley would be ridiculous-he is a line drive type guy with pop/hits for average and plays solid defense-alot of those deep flyouts in Anaheim would be on the street at Wrigley-with the decline of Finley they need a CF and, well we got one to spare in Cpatt- Cpatt+J.Williams+R. Hill+Hairston+Mitre+ a couple of rule 5 guys(Koronka +Rohlicek) for G. Anderson I know it seems like alot but these are all extra pieces if we are being honest and are easily replacable. I know this leaves us with no CF but signing a stopgap(i.e Lofton, Winn) to hold the spot warm for Pie wouldn't be too difficult-also Greenburg plays well enough defense to get playing time in CF as well. Pick up Walkers option- Sign BJ Ryan(3@24) Sign Dempster(2@7) use a pen of-Ryan-Dempster-Williamson-Novoa-Ohman-Wuertz SS to Cedeno LF is Murton's I like the Zito idea-maybe he could come reasonably-if not I sign someone like Paul Byrd, or give rusch the rotation spot- CF-Lofton/Winn/Greenburg/Pie LF-Murton 1B-Lee RF-G.Anderson 3B-Aram 2B-Walker C-Barrett SS-Cedeno Prior-Z-Maddux-Wood-Rusch Ryan-Dempster-Williamson-Novoa-Ohman-Wuertz
  6. \ I can't find a box score or info on Guzman's start last night??? me either ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
  7. Just to not get into trade scenarios-sign the following: Mike Timlin 2yrs@7M(3,4) BJ Ryan 3yrs @ 20M(6,6.5,7.5) Re-sign Dempster 2yrs @ 7M(3,4) Re-sign Nomar-1yr 5M+incentives Pick up option on Walker-2.5M Sign Jose Cruz Jr. 1yr @ 1M for the bench Sign a cheap starter like Jose Lima( 2yrs @7M) sorry but J.Will ain't working and would be a nice trade chip with Cpatt. Bullpen of: Ryan-Dempster-Timlin-Ohman-Wuertz-Novoa-Rusch is pretty good. Rotation of: Prior-Z-Maddux-Lima-Wood is also pretty good.
  8. The thing that got me was dusty wasting ohman for no reason-his only lefty( and becoming quite a solid one) when he could have just gone straight to williamson for the first two and brought in Ohman to face Helton and the guy who hit the homer-He is proving day n and day out that he is a moran.
  9. DON BAYLOR
  10. Well there are a few places I would concentrate on this offseason-In my mind here is what we need: 2SP closer OF 2 relievers- SS -Trade# 1: J. Williams+Leicester+Novoa to Pitts. for Kip Wells+Salomon Torres- This gives us a servicable starter with a 3.00 era at Wrigley career and a solid long relief guy in Torres-costs us about 4M in payroll for 06. Pittsburgh moves alot of salary and picks up another couple of young arms. -Re-sign Nomar- 1yr 4.5M + incentives with club option of 9M in 07- Now we are down to : -sign Brian Giles 3yrs @ 23M-(9,7,6)club option for 4th year for 7M or 1M buyout- I am a fan of Adam Dunn but I don't think he is legitimately attainable. Giles would be a HUGE addition to this club-his discipline and OBP would be a big payoff in the 2 or 3 spot in front of DLee and Aram.Plus this only costs us money-not prospects- -Trade #2-Cpatt(3M)+Hairston(2M)+Mitre to FLA for Pierre(4M)+Mota(3) -Re-sign Dempster 2yrs 9M(4,5) 1SP Well we have the solution to this one in house in Kerry Wood(hopefully)- So here's the payroll and lineup: CF-Pierre(4) 2B-Walker(2.5M) 1B-Lee(8M) RF-Giles(9M) 3B-Aram(9.5M) SS-Nomar(4.5M) C-Barrett(4M) LF-Murton(.3) Total=41.8M Prior(6M) Z(6M) Wood)12.5) Maddux(9M) Wells(4) Total=37.5 Dempster(4M) Williamson(2M) Torres(1.5M) Wuertz(.4K) Ohman(.3k) Mota(3M) Wellemeyer(.4) Total=11.6M Cedeno-.3K Perez-2M Grieve-.3K Blanco-1.75M Grissom-1M Total=5.35 Payroll=96.25M, but thats just me.
  11. Well just turned on sportsline and saw the lineup and immediately began to weep-And then, a glimmer of hope................only 6 months until spring training!.........ok, now I weep more- sorry mods but Dusty is a big fat stupid poop head that should be dragged by his lips to 14th street for a all night game of "ankle grabbing" for putting this lineup on the field-What a tool.
  12. It would be funny if it didn't hurt so much-my disappoinment is at an all time low-Why can't Dusty be held accountable, man I wish I could absolutely suck at my job, constantly making wrong decisions, and accepting mediocrity and still be given a pass-wow, I hear everyone say how much we stink but the crappy part about it to me is I don't think we stink, we are just constantly set up to fail via lineups, pitching changes, personel decisions, etc-I think I'm done for this year-let the kids play douchebag.
  13. I really, seriously, am blown away by this lineup-WTF is going on in Baker's mind? It is staggering really- Why can't Walker leadoff again, Oh I forgot -no speed, Why is Macias playing CF(or playing at all)? Does Baker even know who his players are on his team-has he seen Burny's FP in CF? I just don't get it-it has begun to make me laugh-Hendry needs to do something about this because this guy is going to run both of them out of town-
  14. Matt Murton should play everyday for the next 4 days up until the deadline-without question-When he hit the duoble last night to right I just started to shake my head and my wife looked at me like I was crazy "What, Richie got a hit, you should be happy?"- (she knows Murton because I took her to the Carolina-W.T. series and she deemed him Richie Cunningham). " No honey, the problem is he'll get 2-3 hits tonight and not play for another week" "Why, she replied. "Because........I don't know......because Dusty doesn't want him to." "Well Dusty isn't very smart is he" wow, even my wife knows-
  15. in the telecast on sunday night Dustbag said they thought it would be this weekend so I guess we'll see- I just don't want him to come back too quick-get his timing so he can bring an impact with him-
  16. the funny thing is if Dusty played Cedeno and Murton everyday our bench/late inning PH's would be absolutely strong with Holly-Perez comng into pinch hit-Some things he does I just don't understand-did I mention Murton is hitting over .400-I know, too small a sample, but what if he is the "REAL DEAL" AND CAN HIT .320-.350 EVERY YEAR? yet he is riding the bench behind a has been/never was hitting .230? go figure
  17. What kind of package would it take to get these guys-? Plugging those 2 into our lineup makes things very interesting-maybe we won't pay as much because of Alou's contract? Do you think it is feasible? CF-Hairston 2B-Walker 1B-lee RF-Burnitz 3B-Rammy LF-Alou C-barrett SS-Perez Prior-Schmidt-Zambrano-Maddux-Williams for the stretch-rest Woody for 6-7 weeks and bring him into close-ouch
  18. Maybe Weathers is coming with Dunn-we cold use a solid bullpen arm-he was good here the first time around-
  19. Well, just my 2 cents but did hear where Junior told the Reds he would accept a trade to a contender- maybe the Yanks have come calling and the reds think they can move him-thus giving Patterson(a proven ML although he is struggling this year) the raines to CF-just a thought- this is a pretty good deal for both teams-and the reason for the 48 hours I guess is so he can get on the plane with the cubbies as they leave town
  20. another way to get some bullpen help would be to get the Yanks involved with Pierre-they expressed interest earlier in hte year and maybe that could lower the demands for him- Yanks get-Pierre+Remmy Cubs get-Mota+Gordon Fish get-Dubois+Mitre+Pinto+Duncan? I think it takes a better deal but thats the gist, a 3-way that nets us 2 very solid bullpen arms in Mota and Gordon-
  21. done and done. i was thinking the same thing earlier-if the Marlins are in sell mode then I would gladly take Pierre and Mota off their hands for them- If a deal was made for Pierre then he would have to sign an extension just because the prospect price is going to be high for him. He can keep CF warm this year and next(if arby eligible then he doesn't have to sign ext. IMO) What is Mota's contract situation? he is fairly unhappy in Florida with the "closer" situation earlier this year-he was dominant with LA and with a change of scenery could definitely be again.
  22. full of holes? I think the bullpen is one arm away from solidifying. how absolutely huge would a Billy Wagner be in this bullpen? How about Guillermo Mota-I know he has had his trouble there with McKeon-wonderr what we would have to give for him? I know his numbers aren't that great but he was lights out in LA-just thinking out loud-not really that high on MacDougal, lack of info I guess-I just don't want another Garland for Karchner debacle-making a trade to make a trade-
  23. glad Dusty didn't waste our time putting Hairston and Walker at the top of the order sooner-man that would have been horrible.......
