  1. By the way, is 3 years of Garza equal to 2 years of Greinke? The packages given up are fairly close, as far as amount of talent given up goes.
  2. The fact we're not hearing names on their end make me think we're not getting much back.
  3. Yeah, Otah missed most or all of the year and I think Gross was banged up too.
  4. Where is McGee these days in terms of where he was pre-TJ? No idea on velocity, but he had a very solid year between AA and AAA last year. K rate was excellent at both levels.
  5. One of Colome or McGee(since it's not going to be Hellickson or Moore) had better be included. Since I have no hope of adding Jennings, I have no idea who they have in their system that's an OFer.
  6. Geez. I really think Garza can be a lot better in the NL and am all for getting him. But, if Archer is in this deal, I'm going to throw up. Not what I was expecting, not in the slightest. I don't expect much from Hendry, but the one thing we could usually count on were trades. If Archer is involved and we are NOT getting back a very solid Tampa prospect in return, then this deal is awful.
  7. Brian Goodwin now looks like he's an option for this year's draft. I could easily see him as one of the top 3-4 hitters available. Lefty bat and very toolsy, 5 tool potential.
  8. It's not a good rule. There hasn't been anyone that benefited from this rule either, as every head coach that's been hired certainly was qualified with or without the rule in place. And in an instance like this, where Harbaugh is a high-profile "get", why you HAVE to interview anyone else seems redundant to me. That said, the Fins know the rules and before pitching Harbaugh, they should have already made their "courtesy" interview. Of course, they also should have went ahead and fired their head coach before doing any of this stuff to begin with, so they get a big FAIL all around.
  9. Yeah, it's complete and utter BullSchlitt.
  10. The draft will happen as scheduled but the contracts won't be signed until a new CBA is agreed to. Thus, the rookie cap would be in effect for the 2011 draftees. Andrew Brandt: Well, with that being the case, money won't change for him, barring a catastrophic injury or pitiful season next year. He either really wants to get his degree now(which can be done at any point in the future too) or he doesn't want to play for the Panthers. His possible perfect scenario: Panthers keep Clausen and he shows ENOUGH next year to warrant them taking something other than a QB at or near the top. The Niners go with a stopgap this upcoming season, suck badly, and finish badly enough to where they have the ammo to trade up and take Luck.....
  11. No names have been exchanged? It's been a month of "so if we were to trade Garza, what would you be willing to give up?" "Well before I answer that, let me ask you this. Say we want Graza, what would it take?" Yeah, this part of trading has always fascinated me. What in the hell are you talking about, if you're not exchanging names?
  12. I don't know about that. There were rumors he'd stay for a while - before Carolina locked up the #1 pick. He's a bright kid (and clearly he values education a bit if he's going to Stanford) a year away from graduation. Huh...you and raw both have me incorrectly as the author of that post...lol. Ha, that was me. Not sure how that happened. :D I know he's a bright kid and all, but I think he's gambling that he'll get a better situation than Carolina's next year. The money factor would have been hard for me to swallow. When they iron out this next labor agreement, it's not going to have an affect on rookie salaries for this upcoming draft, correct? Or is that on the table? I thought the scale wouldn't be a factor until the following draft for some reason?
  13. Mateo will be 27 next year. I definitely think he'll fall of the list now. He's just a bullpen arm, probably with very little hope of being a closer. I know he has good stuff, but I don't see them ranking him at this point, because of his age and the fact that he's a setup guy at best, most likely. Chirinos will be 27 too, but still looks like he may be a starting C at some point soon, even if it's not for the Cubs. In the end, I think our system is too deep for a guy like Mateo to hang onto a spot again.
  14. I think Bowers becomes the Panthers top choice now.
  15. I honestly think this has as much to do with the Panthers holding the top pick as anything to do with labor issues. Nothing to base this on really, but I could see Luck wanting to be in a different situation than Carolina's.......
  16. Gotta admit I didn't watch one second of a Temple football game this season, but Mohammed Wilkerson is turning pro. He's a DT, that according to gbnreport, could wind up going in the late 1st with a good combine, early 2nd day prospect right now.
  17. Why on Earth would anyone have interest in him as a head coach right now? He was an absolute trainwreck in almost every way. And McDaniels isn't even interested, according to PFT.
  18. These chairs are arranging themselves pretty quickly. I guess Cowher isn't coaching again next year? And if by some chance Fisher winds up out in Tennessee, he's sitting out 2011 as well?
  19. I'm pretty sure the Titans are going to have to waive Young. He's got a 4 mill roster bonus coming up in March and he can't be dealt until after February 17th as it is. My guess is most teams in need of a QB will be looking towards the draft at that point and looking at Young as a fallback option if they don't get their guy then.
  20. Yeah, I was trying to figure out how they were filling the top 30 without any of those guys, too. At present we know the top ten, Cerda at 31, five others of the 2nd and 3rd ten exactly. (Cabrera 11, Chirinos/Castillo 16/17, Watkins/Flaherty 21/22), That leaves 15 guys. He mentioned: Raley Lemahieu (he didn't fall as far as Flaherty did, so he's in 2nd ten somewhere) Jay Jackson (he was mentioned, and didn't fall as far as Flaherty, so he's in 2nd ten somewhere)Golden (something to the effect that he's around 20 or so) That would leave 11 more. Several he didn't mention as on the list, but in favorable enough terms so that they must certainly be: Robinson Lopez (mentioned him touching 97, being great value for Lee, and perhaps being the most interesting A-ball pitcher) Kurcz. (mentioned as possibly jumping to Daytona, and being one of the top A-ball guys to watch) Lake. Gotta be in there somewhere. Ben Wells. That would leave about seven more spots. Reed, Ha, Wallach, Barney, Kim, Jung, Rhee, Whitenack Struck, Cales, Smith, Smit, Beeler might fill up most of those spots somehow. Or who knows, maybe some other teenager or Korean who's off my radar. (I certainly didn't include Watkins in my list...) Out of the 15 unnamed spots, I agree that Lopez, Lake, Kurcz, Jay Jackson, LeMahieu, Golden, Wells, and Raley are locks. Based on what was said on here about what was asked in the chat and all, I think that Rhee, Ha, Reed(remember, he made their rookie league top 20 list) Barney, and Beeler appear like their on it as well. To me, it only leaves 2 spots where we really don't know who's going to be in. My guess is it comes down to Struck, Kim, Wallach, and Cales for the final 2 spots. Not sure what BA may have on Kim yet, but the 1.2 mill bonus should probably get him on the list and I think they'll favor Struck's season to Wallach's for the final spot personally.
  21. Brandon Harris is in, didn't see him mentioned yet. DaQuan Bowers just announced as well.
  22. I think all of the "convicted" steroid guys will be treated the same way by voters, even A-Rod....... In the end, I do expect the majority of them to wind up getting in at some point though.
  23. Yeah, the Cubs have a bunch of solid lefties and it kind of makes them hard to differentiate, I suppose. I think I'm on my own island though, when it comes to putting Rusin in my top 10. :D
  24. Hey, Benito Santiago had a trophy card! :nutkick: Growing up though, Dave Parker was always a favorite of mine and I wish he had gotten in personally. Whether he deserves it or not, but I always thought he should have been much closer than he was towards getting in and this was his last shot on the regular ballot.
  25. I'd still put Antigua in the "possible" list for somewhere in their top 30 personally. He didn't have a BAD year and was definitely young for his level. The comments on Szczur were phenomenal. Definitely lends some credence to the Crawford comps anyway. It's really going to sting if he chooses NFL over the Cubs. If he's a mid-round NFL pick, he's going to likely get a 3 year deal(depending on labor issues being resolved) and he'll make over a mill in that time frame. Maybe he has a great start in Peoria and we up the ante for him, if it appears he's going to give the NFL a shot?
