  1. Fisher would be great, but I want Maples now that Purke just went off the damn board. :banghead:
  2. Some damn good guys still left on the board for us in the 3rd......
  3. 2 straight High Schoolers, off the normal path for us as well, by the way.
  4. Who knows? Maybe, if he has signability issues we haven't heard? Or an injury.
  5. Probably has the most power of anyone in our system. Like the pick for sure.
  6. Oh SHIIIIIIIIITE!!!!!! Not a Wilken type pick at all, but I do like it ALOT!!!!!!!
  7. We're going to have some damn good options.
  8. Esposito is solid value there.
  9. Meo would have been a solid pick for us though. damn, Arizona has picked up some serious pitching.
  10. Kind of glad Mariners took Miller there. Seemed like a Wilken type to me anyway.
  11. And Bell is gone. Pittsburgh goes into this thing the absolute right way. Gotta hand it to them.
  12. I was pretty high on Goodwin, but kind of think he's an Anthony Gose type prospect. Makeup concerns, iffy power, iffy plate discipline, but tons of speed.
  13. There's some really solid depth at catcher in the high achool ranks that I'd like to see us take advantage of sometime early on day 2, maybe 4th-5th round. We could put him in rookie/short season ball this year and wouldn't have to rush him, with Gibbs ahead and looking like he'll see Daytona by midseason hopefully.
  14. I guess if I had to pin it down to one player who I'd like to see us take at 68, it'd be Purke. I think if you go this route though, you follow it up in the 3rd round with another pitcher, just in case he doesn't impress over the summer and you decide it's not worth the investment. My other choices would be the 2 Dillons. And if you go with one of them, you can follow it up with hitting in the 3rd. I'm a big Fisher fan as well honestly though and if we took him, I'd still be happy as hell. My gut tells me we go with a Kyle Gaedele type guy here and follow it up pitching in rounds 3-4 most likely.
  15. Norris is supposedly wanting 3.9 mill and his velo has evidently been erratic this spring(which Goldstein just mentioned and I didn't know. I still like him alot though but I've heard nothing but positive things about Maples. I thought the Yanks were definitely taking Howard, for what it's worth.
  16. I thought that over the offseason they had decided to let everyone go, not really spend in FA so they'd have money to spend huge in the draft? Out of their top 12 picks, if it were me, I'd probably have tried an approach where you draft 6 big overslots and sign 2 of them. Out of the other 6 picks, go ahead and take signability guys. In the end, you're carrying 4 picks over to the next draft and have 2 frontline players to go along with a very nice core. I'm not sure they got anyone with HUGE talent other than Guerrieri and I think I'd have rather spent big on another guy to go with him and carry the rest of those picks over, since I wasn't impressed with Hager, Snell, Matthews, Ames, and Harris Jr. Maybe a little nit-picking, but I guess I just expected a little more innovative approach than what they did.
  17. Forgot about him and considering I wouldn't have minded the Cubs taking him at 9, it was my favorite Tampa pick. In the end, I guess I'd give them a B or so, but it's more of a quantity thing.
  18. I'd be interested in him, but not for anywhere near 15 million. Yeah, I would hope we'd get him cheaper than that, but a lefty who throws 95 and has a solid curve IS intriguing, just not as a draft pick. :D
  19. To be completely honest, I wasn't all that impressed with what Tampa did. I liked Ross and Mahtook was a VERY solid value that late, but I didn't care for Hager. Martin and Goedel were OK picks, but I thought Ames was a reach too. I like Kes Carter a bit, thought Snell was a bigtime overdraft, and really like Garvin. I'll be honest, I had never heard of Harris Jr, so I can't even comment on him. Volume is good and all, but I think I would have taken more chances and pulled a New England Patriots type deal. They have the ability to carry over picks from year to year, if they did this smartly. I think I would have went for a few big overslots and if you missed out on one or two, then fine, you've still got tons of quantity to go along with the one or two big guys you've signed as well. I just didn't see this out of them.
  20. Now that the 1st round is over, I'm coming around more and more on Baez. I hope we start him out at SS personally, but expect he'll move to 3rd before long. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that if he was a relatively high 1st rounder, he'd go for slot and be in camp soon. So, that's a plus as well. As for what's still out there, it's time for the Cubs to go spend some damn money. Josh Bell, Derek Fisher, Austin Hedges, Andrew Susac, and Phillip Evans appear to be the big overslots left on the hitting side that I like. While guys like Dunston(Maybe a little nostalgia here)Dickerson, Gaedele, Goetzman, Thormore, Gallagher, Oropesa, Vogelbach(I really want to pull for this guy)Vollmuth, Esposito, and Tucker all are out there too. On the pitching side, which is where I want to concentrate on in the 2nd round(hitting again in the 3rd most likely, followed by pitching in the 4th and 5th, based on current talent out there) we've got a shot at still landing an ace. One of Daniel Norris, Matt Purke(and watch him earn his money, ala Ranaudo in the Cape. That said, I don't know how he looked his last time or two out either) Dillon Howard, or Dillon Maples NEEDS to wind up a Cub in the 2nd round. A couple of other guys I really like are Jake Cave(he's a local kid who I think is going to wind up a very solid 2-3 starter once he gives up the OF) Bryan Brickhouse, John Stilson(reminiscent of Hahn last year with the very late injury) Adam Conley, Ian Gardeck(who's drawn Cashner comparisons)Jorge Lopez(who I'm shocked is still there, thought he was a bigtime helium guy)Rookie Davis, and Carter Capps. Bottom line though, is we got a bigtime upside guy and will probably get him for slot, so lets go get an ace now and fill in with another power bat and another really solid arm or two through the top 5 rounds. It's time to do this the right way and hopefully we'll all be happy as hell tomorrow.
  21. They guy already gave us a collective heartattack earlier, but now that we don't have to draft him, let's sign that 23 year old Cuban dude.......He supposedly wants 15 mill.
  22. Baez has plus power in his own right, his biggest detracts are his fielding and his makeup. Kind of lets things affect him on the field negatively sometimes.
