There has to be something, but I still want the Cubs to take the chance. Because there's no compensation for unsigned picks after the 3rd round, I think most teams feel safer going with relatively more signable guys in the early rounds after the 3rd. The logic being that you'd hate to blow, say, a 4th rounder on a tough sign when there's still good talent out there you're more likely to sign. You think they drop outside the top 10 rounds now? It's really just a game of chicken among the teams that are willing to spend at this point isn't it? Yeah, i guess so. I'd love to see how teams have their boards set up. Probably teams have lots of guys they just take completely off their lists. As far as the big spending teams, Pittsburgh has taken guys that are going to cost a ton, so has Washington and Toronto. Detroit has not done that so far, neither have the Yanks. Colorado hasn't either, but Boston has, of course. I can't think of any others though, who else typically spends big?
