  1. Tamayo is a guy I want to mock to us, but I've got zero clue on his value. He's supposedly got 2/3 upside. But, he's not been mentioned on any top 50 or whatever FA list. Which makes me think the 2/3 stuff was pure hype. If he DOES look like a future starter, I'd gladly give out that contract. But, its not going to shock me, if he signs a 3 or 4 mill deal, like Armando Rivero did for us either. Have you seen anything on him, other than that one article from a few months ago?
  2. Here's another Scorched Earth Theo Mock..... Free Agent Signings SS Cozart-3/39 C Rivera-1/3 LHRP Minor 3/27 RHRP Neshek 2/12 RHSP Darvish-5/140 CF Martin-1/2 Trades Russell, Schwarber, DJ Wilson and Thomas Hatch for Chris Archer(6.3) and Brad Boxberger(1.9) Victor Caratini and Dakota Mekkes for Blake Treinen(2.3) Charcer Burks and Bryan Hudson for Matt Wisler C Contreras-.7, Rivera-3 1B Rizzo-7.3 2B Baez-.7 La Stella-1 SS Cozart-13 3B Bryant-8.9 LF Happ-.7 Zobrist-16.5 CF Almora-.7 Dyson-7.5 RF Heyward-28.2 SP- Lester-27.5, Quintana-8.9, Hendricks-4.9, Archer-6.3, Darvish-28, with Montgomery, Wisler, and Tseng as 6,7,8, with Minor as an option possibly RP- Wilson-4.3, Edwards-.7, Strop-5.9, Montgomery-.7, Treinen-2.3, Minor-9, Neshek-6, Boxberger-1.9 Payroll of 189.1 heading into the season
  3. I've thought about them and that exact scenario. Junis or Skoglund just isn't enough for me though. Some think Karns has more left to show, but he's not young anymore. I think I'd pass, thinking there's got to be a better fit, since you've got to get a true rotation piece, in my mind, if we move one of our 5.
  4. Holy horsefeathers no, I’m nearly 100% against trading Russell. But in the scenario he’s moved it’s not because he’s one of the most replaceable it’s because he’s one of the most valuable and brings back the most valuable piece(s). Yes, he's extremely hard to replace. He MAY be one of the more valuable guys we've got to trade. Personally, I THINK he's first. But, I can see how teams would want Javy or Happ more. Because.....Russell has not progressed offensively yet. He's got the plantar issue. And he's got the off field concerns too. You can look at it this two ways. He's either at the low end of his value and he'll be worth more at any other point. Or, he's just not going to be the superstar, that we had hoped, and this is what he is-a very nice player. I'm sure there's teams out there on both ends of that spectrum. But, the ones that think he's still going to be a stud, are still going to try and get him for fifty cents on the dollar. Which won't work, unless our FO thinks this is all he's going to be, going forward. And then, we don't have a big enough offer on Happ or Schwarber to upgrade our rotation. Not even sure where I was going here, other than I doubt Addy gets dealt. If he does, I think it tells us our FO thinks he's plateaued.
  5. I think Schwarber and Happ are the easiest to replace. Dealing either of Addy or Javy hurts our defense quite a bit. At this point, I'm legitimately not concerned with money. We're not going to spend at a Dodger level. Maybe not the Yankees either, although I'm still unconvinced Hank spends huge. Going over the LT this year is a question mark. Tactically, staying under this year makes sense. But, the only thing that truly matters is keeping yourself away from multi year deals that make it hard to stay 40 over the LT, after next years class. The fact we were under in 2016, tells me that with a few major market teams trying to reset, or at least position themselves better for next years class.....We very well may be more active in FA than what we're figuring.
  6. If we trade Russell, I'd really want Cozart. Cobb and Chacin is fine for the rotation, but if that's the route, again, I'd want serious upgrades to the pen.
  7. Holy horsefeathers.
  8. I just want to say Iglesias is excellent and would make a good Cub. He is the reliever version of Stroman for me in that they’re top of the list trade targets during this pre-media rights window. Make that second arm Cody Reed or Stephenson instead and I’m closer, both offer a little more flexibility and ceiling. The value is probably there and I really like Iglesias too. Happ has Cincy ties too, a deal with them makes quite a bit of sense in some ways. I'd prefer Stephenson to Reed, or Romano, or Lorenzen. I think he's got upside. But, if this is the type of route we go, I would really hope we go hard(and get) Darvish. If we get Cobb, in this scenario, I'd hope for some semblance of a super pen approach. Get Morrow and Minor, to go with Iglesias, or something like that anyway.
  9. They'll keep Inman. I'm pretty sure of that. But, they need a top flight FA and a 1st or 2nd day draft pick, to go with him and Meredith. Trubisky needs lots of help and I'm just going to try and think giving him weapons will Goff him up next year. He doesn't look as bad as Goff did last year, at least.
  10. Can't wait to hear Fox be a smart ass explaining that horsefeathers away.
  11. Arizona is already 8 million over the highest payroll they've ever carried. I don't see them adding a SS, when they've still got to add a bat in the OF, without a system to really trade from. I think Happ or Schwarber for Walker makes some sense for them though. If they can swing that, then adding Cozart becomes a possibility. But, it all depends on when Miller is ready to go.
  12. I didn't realize Kipnis fell off like that either. He's either got 2/28 or 3/44.5 on his deal. I'd much prefer to just sign Cozart, than to give up anything for him.
  13. Cueto literally has zero value. They've got us sending Happ for the purpose of getting rid of Zobrist. Its an awful deal for us and the Giants are giving up next to nothing. I don't disagree with that. I was just remarking about it because you said they were giving up Arroyo and a project arm (which I assumed was a comment on Corry ... but I guess it could've been a comment on Cueto). I was referring to Corry. Cueto's not a positive value, so I didn't bother to list him.
  14. In his mock, Giants would give up Cueto/Arroyo/Corry for Stanton, with the Cueto return going to finish the Stanton deal. The theory makes sense - Giants lack the top flight talent to likely entice the Marlins to make such a deal, even if they eat the entire deal. Just not sure that mock makes sense for the other two teams. Marlins - Taking on Zobrist, while still having Prado ... that's a lot of money they'd need to shed to reach their goals. Also, not too big on Arroyo/Corry, but that's me and others like them enough. Cubs - Cueto's deal. Cueto literally has zero value. They've got us sending Happ for the purpose of getting rid of Zobrist. Its an awful deal for us and the Giants are giving up next to nothing.
  15. Zobrist and Happ for Cueto? Holy horsefeathers, thats insane. The Giants are only giving up Christian Arroyo and a total project arm for Stanton? Sherman needs to go to the B2B School of 3 way deals.
  16. God, I'll be pissed, if Happ gets moved solely for a pen arm. I think I'd be OK, with moving him for Colome AND Odorizzi. Something like that could work. But, even then I wouldn't be thrilled. Happ went into last year as a top 30-60 prospect by basically everyone. His value has gone up from there. I'd say trading him is the equivalent of trading a prospect ranked 15-25 or so, at this point. But, I'm not that concerned with finding a truly proven closer. Add Reed(or Morrow), Neshek, and McGee to what we've got and its a very solid pen.
  17. Markkonen sprained an ankle at the end of the first half. Double digit streak ends at 10.
  18. Toronto, because they're still trying to make the playoffs.
  19. Cobbs?
  20. Over my head. What do you mean? you never met Hardcorecubsfan? He was an illiterate teacher that had an affinity for snakes and making incoherent statements, such as the one quoted above. Ah lol. I remember the name and all, but I didn't venture off the baseball stuff at all for a few years after I got here. I missed way too much of the awesome stuff.
  21. was the initial notice physical appearance black? Over my head. What do you mean?
  22. We had a guy on ITI, maybe we had moved to SonsofIvy, by then.....The dude got bit by a snake, was dying, broke out of the hospital, had amnesia or some horsefeathers.....Had his sister asking us if we knew where he was. Maybe a grandparent or some horsefeathers too. This ain't completely correct, it was a long time ago. But, its fairly close lol. I want to say he was in some jungle too lol.
  23. Eligible when the Cubs are out of the penalty box, but we're getting to the point where many big spending teams have already allocated their funds with pre-arranged deals. That's the type of arm you'd love to get in the system. The curve looked fantastic too. True. I'm glad we aren't connected to the top 10 guys or whatever it was Badler had written on earlier. At any rate, I have no clue how much we've already committed. Its possible we spread it around and have little money left. But, its also possible we waited things out to see what bargains fell late. Either way though, I LOVE that we can trade for more money in the new CBA EVERY year, since there's no going over your amount anymore. I really, really want to see us doing that going forward.
  24. Here's my 2nd attempt..... Trades Kyle Schwarber for Danny Salazar(5.2) Victor Caratini, Mike Montgomery, and Thomas Hatch for Alex Colome (5.5) Mark Zagunis for Matt Wisler FA Signings Mike Minor 4/36 Brandon Morrow 2/20 Jon Jay 1/8 Jhoulys Chacin 2/22 Tommy Hunter 1/6 Rene Rivera 1/3 Tyson Ross 1/2 Lineup LF Zobrist, 3B Bryant, 1B Rizzo, C Contreras, SS Russell, RF Heyward, 2B Baez, CF Almora Bench C Rivera, 2B La Stella, IF/OF Happ, OF Jay Rotation Lester, Quintana, Hendricks, Chacin, Salazar Pen Colome, Strop, Edwards, Wilson, Minor, Morrow, Hunter Payroll of 176.5
  25. The guys Rogers mentioned, Archer, Stroman, Fulmer, Manaea, and Nola.....Most seem like long shots to be dealt, but I figure 1 or 2 probably move. Manaea, maybe Archer, being my guesses. Then, you've got the group of guys MLBTR mentioned in the Cubs off season outlook..... Danny Salazar, Collin McHugh, Matt Andriese, Jake Odorizzi, and Kendall Graveman. Again, I'd not expect more than one or two to move, but this opens up the market a bit. With offense on the upswing, I'm not concerned in the least about pitching being TOO valuable. There's plenty of teams out there that'll be looking for cheap hitting.
