  1. Still want to find out if Paniagua is eligible or not....Don't care about Beeler, one way or the other.
  2. If we don't counter these two solid moves with a Kurt Suzuki signing tomorrow, I'll be surprised.....
  3. Good God, what kind of numbers do you think he's going to put up?
  4. Personally, I honestly think I 'd take our top 4 over theirs. Yeah, I 'd take Buxton and Sano over Javy and KB, but I think there's a bigger difference between Almora/Soler to Meyer/Stewart than there is to the first two pairs. And I definitely prefer the rest of our top 10 to theirs.
  5. Who else do they have besides Buxton, Sano, and Meyer? I never really hear about anyone else. Kohl Stewart is a top 50 guy. 4th pick in the draft this year. Parks loves upside, so he likely has a crush on Lewis Thorpe, a very young Australian lefty. Berrios is a solid pitching prospect. I guess he's high on Edwin Rosario? I don't see them as being all that deep myself. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, but I think I listed anyone with a shot at being a top 100 type.
  6. No one. Chance someone like Loosen, Beeler, or Jokisch gets kept, but no where near a slam dunk any of them do. Ben Wells may or may not have a clause in his contract that states he has to be added by the end of 2013. Paniagua, depending on how the way MLB reviews his previous stuff may be eligible as well. Not a sure thing either of them would be taken, but they at least have upside, so its conceivable. Ha could get taken, again, no upside though. Amaya is interesting, but with KC being his highest destination so far, can't see anyone hiding him for a year on an active roster. Catching is scarce, Contreras has upside, but same thing applies to him as it does Amaya.
  7. Parks will have Twins as top system in baseball. Just mentioned it on Twitter.
  8. Does anyone want to handicap whether or not Beeler gets added to the 40 man? Is he anything more than a back-end type? I'd say that's his basic upside, especially if he's NOT hitting low 90 's anymore, as Manuel suggested yesterday. I asked Harry Pavlidis the same question and his response made sense....He asked me if I really thought any of Jokisch, Beeler, or Loosen would stick all year on another teams active roster? I kind of doubt it. No idea right now who else may be made available by other teams. But you gotta think there'll be a bit more upside out there than that group. In the end, the only way I think we add anyone other than Alcantara is if we either make a trade very soon that nets us an extra spot or two or if we de-roster Bard or Lim.
  9. It's doubtful the A's would want Villanueva unless you are talking about 2 different deals. They've lost Colon most likely. Unless I'm missing someone, they've got Parker, Straily, Gray, Griffin, Milone, and Anderson, who's likely going to be dealt currently. Villanueva in that park is a good fit, to me anyway. No clue how to value Anderson, but if he could be had for Cabrera and Villanueva(3B one) I'd take the risk on his health.
  10. Many are beginning to think that Scherzer stays and Porcello gets dealt. But I'm sure LA is thinking that 3 years of control on Trumbo is worth more than Porcello. Do the Angels have the assets in addition to Trumbo to pull off a David Price deal? I suspect their farm system is not considered good. The Angels may have the worst system in baseball. There's no way they've got nearly enough to get Price.
  11. By the way, if Callaspo is rumored here, I could definitely see Villanueva heading out. Same control, salaries close to a wash....
  12. I have no idea what Bourjos costs, but my guess is he stays and Trumbo is sent to Detroit in a Porcello deal.
  13. Yeah, saw that post. Said we approached them about Trumbo but that went nowhere. Guess he would've played LF? Also said he's heard Kendrick and Richards names involved. Wouldn't mind adding either of those two guys, always have liked Kendrick. Bourjos would be a nice addition to the OF rotation. Any ideas what the Angels need/would be wanting to acquire? Well, he said Kendrick and Richards had been discussed. I didn't take it to mean in a Bourjos deal. My guess is Angels inquired on Shark and that's where they came up. Angels want SP supposedly for either Trumbo or Bourjos. That's not much of an option for us, outside of E-Jax for Bourjos maybe? We'd need to bring in someone else, if its true that's what they want. Because they're system isn't capable of getting them much of anything.
  14. ABTY thinks Bourjos to the Cubs has some legs.
  15. I love Kemp, if he's healthy. But he's just not currently a prime target to go after. May or may not ever be again, but there's too much risk with him now to give up a guy that definitely can bring back quality, if we decided to move him. Seriously, if Kemp was placed on waivers right now, is there a team out there that would claim him? My honest guess is no.
  16. If you look at a move of Callaspo and one of Doolittle or Cook even as a 2014 move and nothing else, I find it hard to be upset, as it certainly seems fair to say for that 5 mill of payroll, you're likely adding 3 WAR. Give me another sscenario where that's possible, without giving up bigtime assets from within.
  17. Bases loaded, one out for KB. 2-0 count.....
  18. If it's Doolittle or Cook, just to have to take Callaspo(a utility guy we CAN use, by the way), you really should go look at those two pitchers.....They're pretty [expletive] good.
  19. I figure Josh Johnson at 1/12 is a lock for us.
  20. Trying to remember exactly, but I think it goes like this: Each MLB team is responsible for filling certain positions on whichever team they send players to. It may be a drawing, where the club draws a number and gets to pick which position they want to fill. At any rate, every team is responsible for each of a SP and a bullpen arm(maybe more). But with the offensive environment, you often don't get the elite pitching prospects, its more guys that are auditioning for 40 man spots, ala Beeler and Loosen this year.
  21. Guessing you mean Beeler. Groundball guy. Throws low 90's, doesn't change speeds very well. Auditioning for 40 man spot, or else he can get picked in the Rule 5. Back end SP or middle reliever upside. Not in my personal top 30 Cubs prospects, although he'd be in most teams'.
  22. They've talked about adding a closer. My guess is one solid reliever is all they'll add, so it'd basically be around the same money I'd expect them to give a closer. Except it'd fill 2 holes instead of just one. Subtracting one or both of Shark/Schierholtz salaries would give plenty of flexibility too.
  23. If there is a pitching starved team out there looking to add 2 rotation pieces, and loses out on Tanaka, Garza, Santana, Jimenez, Kazmir, Nolasco, etc... in free agency, and doesn't have the luxury of trading prospects or surplus hitting to get a starter, then I could see that team looking at EJax's 3 years and 33 million, and saying "not ideal, but not bad either." Personally, I think the Cubs could get the Giants and Blue Jays interested. Oh, I think he IS tradeable. Just doubt we'd get much for him currently. If he has a 3ish ERA at the break next year, some team may give up a top 100 guy + at that point, based on the reasonable contract. Even with the decent peripherals, I think his true numbers look too bad for someone to give up a halfway solid return currently.
  24. I can't see E-Jax getting dealt right now. A very solid first half could change that though. If 2016 is the perceived year now, I guess selling high on Jackson before then makes sense.
  25. One concern was holding velo, both late in games and late in the season. He passed both those tests. Granted, it was not a full season from him, with his suspension. He's always had a nice mix of pitches, fastball, cutter, slider, curve, and change. He's getting lots of misses, so his plane has been good enough so far. I'm not completely confident, but I feel much better than this time last year anyway.
