  1. So Martin or Rivera over Lackey? I would generally agree, but with Jake and Lester as question marks I could see going 12 with Lackey as a safety valve. Montgomery is the safety valve imo.
  2. Back2Banks and their incredible 3-team trades where the Cubs traded nothing and ended up with Brian Roberts.
  3. Ohhhh that's delicious. One time a few years back, in the 2014/2015 offseason I was talking to a friend of a friend Cardinals fan about how good the Cubs were going to be. He lives in Chicago and has a tendency to be nice and placating, so this time he went on a thing about "I hope the Cubs are good, I really do." I was like "you really don't. It's gonna happen and you're going be sad for a bunch of years." I'm not sure what that guy is doing these days but I'm guessing that watching the Cubs dump beer all over their visitors lockerroom isn't especially enjoyable. I wonder how many Cards fans said patronizing stuff like that to Cubs fans in the years leading up to 2015 and I'm kinda hoping it stings a little more or that they blame themselves for jinxing the team or something. But mostly I'm just happy the schedulers set it up this way. Peace out Cardinals! Comeuppance is bitch! At a Cubs/Cards game in 2014 at Wrigley, I was drunken-loudly bashing Kolten Wong and mentioning how much someone has to suck to get picked off to lose a World Series game. The old Cards fan guy in front of me who was being fake nice at random times all game got all in a smug huff and said something like, "Any idea what it feels like to be in a World Series?" and I just said something to the effect of, "I'll know pretty soon." Not that cool of a story but I love thinking about what that idiot must feel like now. Reminds me also of opening night in 2015, waiting in one of those terrible bathroom lines, some Cards fan was talking horsefeathers and I told him I'd take our next 10 years over theirs without thinking twice. Got another smug response and even other Cubs fans were saying stuff like, "Pump the brakes, not even close." Dummies. Living through the depths of a rebuild and closely following the minors and player development throughout this entire process has made the payoff absolutely delicious. It's felt like being in on a secret that few others know, especially Cardinals fans. There are probably a lot of stories like this but in September 2015 when the Cards were in town I ran into some clown dressed in a Cardinals-themed Cowboy costume complete with a Cardinals cowboy hat, western shirt adorned with "The Cardinals Cowboy" and, yes, a miniature World Series trophy. Yesterday, I stumbled upon the photo I took of him (which he willingly and proudly posed for) and thought of all that's transpired since that day: knocking StL out of the playoffs, winning the WS while they missed the playoffs, knocking them out of the playoffs this year and celebrating on the field at Busch -- I bet that guy wouldn't try pulling that horsefeathers at Wrigley now.
  4. Will there be a camera running when Joe tells Lackey he's not on the roster?
  5. Some others for consideration: David is a robot The initial notice was a physical appearance black GEOVANY SOTO (too old for consideration? Probably) Tiny Face Rizzo Thick Onion Gravy GEOVANY SOTO
  6. Nah, she was diagnosed in late June. He sucked before then, then really sucked in July (understandably), then went back to regular sucking.
  7. OMG about to add this one to his Kelly Crull spankbank.
  8. Someone needs to remake the NL Central Division Participant Cardinals logo with the 2017 postseason logo.
  9. They are going to celebrate after the game on the field either way and presumably destroy the clubhouse in the process.
  10. Interesting article on Lester's second half: https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-weirdest-thing-about-jon-lesters-season/ If Fangraphs knows, the Cubs know. Have to wonder what they plan to do about it.
  11. I also feel like Game 3 of the 2007 NLDS *shudder* was in the afternoon as well.
  12. Koji has reverse splits. Monty, Duensing, Wilson should be enough given how much rest is built into the playoffs.
  13. Very much looking forward to clinching against the Cards and celebrating on their field.
  14. This is the final day of, what, 20 in a row? We still have several games against Mil and StL. Can't exactly blame Joe for trying to rest some guys.
  15. What was so infamous about this? It was horsefeathering awesome.
  16. OPR perfect through 8. His zone has been enormous tonight.
  17. Well that was cool but he was down
