  1. I would've brought him back for 3 years, assuming it wasn't for a ridiculous amount of money.
  2. I have a couple of reactions to that: the first is that I'm not certain that straight cost of living calculations are really valid for a professional athlete. They travel so much that their expenses are going to look a lot different than a typical person's. The second is that Albert may not necessarily be cognizant of cost of living adjustments, especially since his agent is going to be trying to sell him on the higher value deal either way. It's an interesting fact, but I don't think you should read anything into it. Also, quality of life: Albert took 8% less to live in LA vs St. Louis. Think of it as a "shitty city tax"
  3. Both. I don't see how those are contradictory. The fact that his Coors numbers aren't wildly above his road numbers doesn't mean they wouldn't be even worse without them. This was pretty much universally agreed on (though in reverse with a pitcher's park) during the Kemp/Braun MVP discussion. But I suppose I'm just being contrarian by bringing it up now. So what's the argument then, that Stewart is worse than his Coors numbers would predict, but somehow only at Coors because it doesn't show up anywhere else? Is your argument that Coors affects all hitters but Stewart?
  4. Yes. We had this discussion during the Kemp/Braun MVP debate. A narrow split doesn't absolve a player of playing in a friendly home environment. So then the knocks of being helped by a home park or not "taking advantage" of it become two angles that can be used to support whichever side of an argument you choose to take? How convenient. No. There's pretty much only one way to take it: Adjust for home park whether the splits show it or not. I'm with Kyle here... why wouldn't you adjust? Park factors are park factors.
  5. I don't really think this is a great trade for LA unless they can get Howard as a result.
  6. Boozer's diet is even more impressive when you consider the fact that he can unhinge his jaw.
  7. FWIW, Ricketts's Cubs purchase included 25% of Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Not exactly YES money, but can't hurt.
  8. I wish we were the Marrrrrrrrrrlinnnnnnnnns! But that is all I would want as far as being a Marlin. I still wish I could breathe underwater. YA EVER BEEN IN A ROOM WITH A MARLIN
  9. #trader and #Angles are trending in St. Louis
  10. No they aren't. They're trying to sell tickets and make a short term splash. Why do you think they don't give out NTCs? Have you not been paying attention for the past 14 years? And the contracts are bad. Old/injury prone guys they paid more than anyone else would have. Marlins and short term splash? Pun intended? They're really sharks when it comes to negotiating.
  11. I'm sure the number will come out in the coming weeks.
  12. Didn't somebody from here get his phone number, and call him and just play a clip of an Aramis walk off against the Cards and then he quit doing videos. yes, and it was [expletive] hilarious
  13. Ok fine. Half naked and pints of Gumball Head for everyone on NSBB. Deal. I pledge to buy a Fielder/Pujols jersey and wear it all weekend.
  14. Except we don't already have one of the best players in the league We do have one of the best young players in the league. But he's only 1/9 of the team and can't have the ball as much as he wants. Touche.
  15. Except we don't already have one of the best players in the league
  16. Or hope he starts beating in-laws again.
  17. Omg I totally forgot about that loser. Knowing his Edmonds reaction, I'd love to see his Pujols video!
  18. IF FIELDER COMES HERE HE BETTER NOT UNTUCK 'EM
  19. Who believes they're not completely serious? Inference + Rumors = Hot Stove Reporting
  20. So from this statement people are saying our interest in Prince is overblown?
  21. Fun fact: Mike Stanton's given name is Giancarlo Cruz Michael Stanton
  22. I can do ya one better. There was an article on fangraphs a month or so back that had a nice little graph. I'll just copy and paste the relevant stuff. The rest of the article actually talks about Prince specifically and how much value the author expects him to have over his upcoming contract. It's definitely worth a read. At any rate... the premise that bad-bodied, one-dimensional sluggers age poorly has long been a sabermetric tenet and it would seem that premise still holds up. Is it a certainty? No. Nothing is. But if we're gonna bet against the odds, I'd much rather do it for 5 years than 7. Perhaps I'm missing something in the writer's argument. Wouldn't you expect that a correlation to a "normal player" would support the commonly accepted age range for a player's peak years of 27-32? This chart suggests that a player's peak years are 23-28. Just curious. Also, Fielder's career peak doesn't fall in line with the "Heavy Guy" curve...
