Meh, it was probably a slight overpay even if you factor in the extra playoff revenue. But depending on what Corey Black does for us that could still change. It definitely wasn't anything like the sort of albatross people made it out to be, though. I wasn't a fan of the signing, but it turned out about as well as could reasonably be expected. Hell, I can't think of more than a couple mega-deals that have worked out any better. Probably depends on how far back we're going on this definition of mega-deal. Derek Jeter signed a 10 year, 189m deal in 2001 that seemed high at the time, but worked out pretty well. I guess the difference there is that wasn't a free-agent signing. Zack Greinke contract looks ok. But other than that, most big-time FA deals don't pan out as hoped. Beltran's Mets deal was panned at the time but turned out to be fine, as was Beltre's with Seattle (and Texas).
