  1. Can someone give me a quick reason why everyone is so down on Pawelek (including whatever injuries he's been plagued by)? He was obviously young coming out of highschool, and I see in 05 he started, and pitched good (2.70 ERA---1.07 WHIP). In 2006, he started, and pitched pretty good (2.66 ERA--1.26 WHIP). In 07, he came out of the bullpen the whole year and sucked. He's still only 21 for most of next season. What's the reason he came out of the pen to start 07 again (out of shape was it?), and why for some reason am I remembering a bad rep on him before the 07 season, even though he pitched pretty good before that? BTW, I remember the whole tripping over his playstation story and breaking his off arm, but I don't exactly remember when.
  2. I've got a feeling it will happen tonight. Note: I've had a feeling it would happen the previous two nights.
  3. That's awesome. "Clearly you are new here." Main topic on their forum: "Andruw Jones is a fat ----"
  4. Haha. This is random, and I may be a bit immature, but did you read what some Dodgers forum replied to a guy when he posted one of the insiders rumored trades? I don't know why but I was LMAO. Note: Profanity inside http://www.dodgerblues.com//fanforum/nfphpbb/viewtopic.php?p=186758#186758
  5. Getting him would be great. Getting him for OPR would not.
  6. Sounds to me like he's just going to say whether or not he's coming the MLB. Maybe he goes the extra mile and actually picks a damn team already. We can only hope.
  7. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3149131 Yeah, i posted that 4 hours ago  Whoops. I've read about 99% of this thread (unfortunately ;)), and of course I miss that.
  8. Haha, like an hour after BigBird said the Dodgers might package Tejada with Bedard, Rosenthall says the same thing: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7548574
  9. If Towers thinks he'll let the Padres know by possibly today or tommorrow, i'm still holding out some hop that he'll say which team tonight. but i doubt it.

  11. I want to say he's had back problems lately that have kept them iffy on handing him a job.
  12. Thanks guys. So far i'm going to get Moneyball, Baseball Between the Numbers, and a book not mentioned called Mind Game--which I hear is in essence is similiar to Moneyball, only using the Red Sox as an example of a team using moneyball with alot of money.
  13. Jeter's career FRAA is -129. Saying Greene is better than Jeter defensively is like saying that Ryan Theriot is better offensively than Cesar Izturis. Could you link me to something that explains FRAA? I'm really interested in Sabermetrics, and while I have a good understanding of most offensively, i'm still learning. it's just Fielding Runs Above Average. A guy with a FRAA of 0 is an average shortstop. Jeter's -129 FRAA means that as a result of his defense, the Yankees have allowed 129 more runs than if they had an average shortstop. This assumes, of course, that FRAA is a perfect stat, which it's not, but it's miles better than the more commonly used fielding statistics like errors, fielding percentage, zone rating and range factor. Thanks. But doesn't this stat rest alot on how good your starting pitching is? It seems like it should, though seeing a guy like Jack Wilson that high proves otherwise. I mean if a SS gives up a baserunner due to subpar defense but his pitcher always seems to get out of it with no runs, wouldn't it be a little misleading? It seems like the Redsox SS for example would be ranked alot higher than the Pirates SS (though that doesn't seem to be the case). I have a feeling I might be wrong though and it deals more with MLB offensive averages than individual team averages though.

  15. Because he's young, will greatly benefit from a move out of Petco (check the splits), and will probably give you a legit 25+HR's out of the SS position. He's a very good upgrade from Theriot with the potential to be a huge upgrade. Plus he might be the best defensive SS in the game. Get him out of Petco and you're looking at an .800+ OPS. i was with you until this point, but you really veered off track here I stand by that statement. While it's a little hard to officially rank players defensively, he's definately in the upper echelon. Compare him to Jeter's career statistics at short. Jeter--Fielding % .975 and Zone Rating is .816 Greene--Fielding %.975 and Zone rating is.850

  18. I know team's overvalue their players, but man is the Orioles fans consensus on what they'll get a bit high. The consensus is they could also get a Adam Jones, Brandon Morrow/and Balentin (Sp) from the Mariners. Maybe it's just me, but we are talking about alot of serious prospects headed that way if it ends up being remotely close to what they are thinking. Surprisingly, they've seemed to soften up on Roberts and most would ok the deal if it's Gallagher+Murton or Epatt.
  19. It does, but i'm not sure how much more the Padres can even offer with their budget. It seems like the final offers are already laid out on the table. Cough**Pie for Greene or maybe like Marshall/Murton if they wanted a corner OF'er**Cough Ahem...I must have something in my throat  .
  20. i sure hope they aren't proposing a contract similar to soriano's. That's what I was thinking too but it's a little clarified later in the article: Nothing we didn't already know, though he wants 3 years so i'm not sure if he'll like five or not. The writer makes it seem like we'll either try to win him over with 5 years at a possible lower salary than 13 mill or go for the norm (3 years) at 13+ mill.
  21. Found this on another board: I'd think that OBP would at least be .15 points higher.
  22. If the choices are really between Rowand and Fukudome, I'll take Fukudome. Either one would give the Cubs the option of playing them in RF or CF which is really important if they plan on bringing up Pie, but Kosuke has less of an injury history, likely better OBP, probably equally good defense if not slightly better than Rowand. Signing Fukudome will be a risk, most certainly, but there is only one way to find out if he's going to be more like Hideki or Kaz. Here's hoping he is signed by the end of the week. At the end of the season, pretty much everyone felt that an infusion of OBP at the top of the order and moving Soriano down is what the Cubs should realistically do this off season to improve their offense. Now it looks like they have a chance to do exactly that with Fukudome and Roberts. Come on, Jim. Except it should be either Aki Iwamura or Hideki Matsui. Fukudome walked a lot more in japan than Kaz. I just hope Fukudome can slug better than Iwamura's sub .420 next year. Wow, looking at Iwamura's stats from Japan he was a very good power hitter. 06 season--.311/.389/.544/.933 OPS 32 HR 04 season-- .300/.385/.583/.968 with a whopping 44 HR's. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/I/Akinori-Iwamura.shtml
  23. They've also got the .680 OPS machine playing SS next year for about 14 million.
  24. Watch us go like 7 years... If we think about going anywhere near Soriano money we might as well have given ARod a call just to be sure.
