  1. Other teams "running up the score" today: *#4 Auburn's starting QB Brandon Cox throws a TD pass with 1:45 to go in the 3rd quarter, putting the Tigers up 31 on Mississippi State. *#7 Florida's starting QB Chris Leak throws a TD pass with 8:32 to go in the 4th quarter, putting the Gators up 42 on Central Florida. *#8 LSU's starting QB Jamarcus Russell throws a 29-yard TD pass with 5:05 to go in the 3rd quarter, putting the Tigers up 38 on Arizona. *#21 Nebraska's starting QB Zac Taylor throws for TWO TD's in the third quarter, putting Nebraska up 35 and 42 points respectively over Nicholl's State. Do we want to discuss all of these, or single out Notre Dame as "classless?" We were not up as much as these teams and played a much higher caliber of opponent. Did all of these teams run up the score and therefore are all of these programs classless? Opinions please, especially from the anti-ND crowd.
  2. Anyone want to comment on LSU's Jamarcus Russell throwing for a 29-yard TD while the Tigers were up 31-0 on Arizona in the third? How classless is LSU!?!? (Didn't think so...there's only so much hate to go around, and we need to save as much of it as possible for ND.)
  3. We were down 19 to Michigan State last year, heading into the 4th quarter. Of course we came back to take that one into overtime. I'm slightly amazed that everyone thinks a 24 point lead would be insurmountable for an '05 BCS team, midway through the 3rd quarter. Let's say we punt, and PSU returns it for a TD. All of the sudden, its a 17 point game midway through the 3rd. All this Notre Dame hate for a 41-17 win is ridiculous. 41 points is not running up the score, regardless of who was in the game in the 4th quarter. PSU hadn't put in their second string, and good teams can make a game of 24 point deficits in the 3rd quarter.
  4. By the way, are you saying it is totally fine for Joe to run up 56 in the first half on Illinois with his starters, as long as he doesn't pull that in the second half? Somehow that is fine, but Weis lacks class. Voters are uneducated and only look at box scores and word of mouth. Consider the fact that we dropped in the rankings because of a close win. How in the world do you blame Weis? Especially considering we played off your receivers late---allowing two garbage TDs---and didn't play our starting offense the last 10 minutes or so.
  5. We have to worry about voters who only read box scores. Penn State's feelings shouldn't be any part of Coach Weis' thought process. Playing the game to win with your best players should never be seen as being unsportsmanlike. Lets face it---you all are focusing on anything other than the fact that Notre Dame just completely took apart your program. Thats fine---I wouldn't want to think about my team being humiliated this soon either.
  6. No, it never would have happened because Paterno doesn't run up the score on people. 2005: Penn State 40, Central Michigan 3 Penn State 63, Illinois 10 Penn State 44, Minnesota 14 2004: Penn State 48, Akron 10 Penn State 37, UCF 13 Penn State 37, Michigan State 13 2003: Penn State 52, Indiana 7 2002: Penn State 40, Nebraska 7 Penn State 49, Louisiana Tech 17 Penn State 49, Northwestern 0 Penn State 58, Indiana 25 Penn State 61, Michigan State 7 You're right---JoePa is a classy guy who would never blow out a team. But, I guess as long as you're laying 56 points on someone in the first half (2005, Illinois), its all good. Its just those third and fourth quarter points that lack class!
  7. In a system where voters tend to look only at final scores, I don't blame Weis at all. I wouldn't have blamed PSU if the roles were reversed.
  8. This whining is classic. If PSU would have rolled on Notre Dame, 90% of this forum would have celebrated Paterno laying it on the Irish. After Paterno's comments ripping Notre Dame for being independent and his obvious disdain for the Irish, I wish we would have let the score get to where it easily could have been---about 56-3. I just can't wait to hear all this week that "Penn State just wasn't that good" and Weis "still has never beaten anyone good." The same will be said after we beat Michigan. 'Michigan and Penn State aren't what they used to be."
  9. Well, sometimes you can't control where you are on the map, right? There aren't many bigger Cubs fans on this board than you, and no one questions your loyalty as a fan in CA.
  10. By his logic, you can't root for a school you didn't go to. (Which is dumb to begin with, considering that most alums don't play a down of football for their school and simply attending the school doesn't make them anymore of a fan than anyone else). So, I guess you can't root for a team you don't work for or play for, including the Cubs. It is the same logic. He laid out his logic in a latter post. No he didn't. His "logic" consisted of saying "I don't understand why people get crazy about schools they didn't go to" and "most ND fans are bandwagonners." Come to think of it, that's not even logic. That is just spewing nonsensical opinions without any backing for what is said. That said, its fun bantering about college football with a Kansas fan and a UCLA fan. I just can't wait to see which of those two teams we play in a BCS bowl game!

  12. I really don't feel like explaining, AGAIN, that there were a billion factors coming into play into that decision, many of them that weren't even sports-related. But why let facts get in the way of a really good bias? Notre Dame jealousy makes me laugh. School pride from people who didn't go to said school makes me laugh. That's ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many people on this board root for college teams they didn't attend? You might as well say you can't root for the Cubs unless you've tried out for the team. Hey, I'm not saying you can't root for a college you didn't go to. I'm happy when Northwestern wins, as both my parents attended there, and I grew up in Evanston. And I understand when a person has an allegiance to his respective state school. But part of me finds it a bit silly when non-alums get all crazy about a school they didn't attend. And I often wonder if all these non-ND alums would love the Irish so much if ND didn't happen to be really good most of the time. Probably not. But that's cool. We all have different reasons for rooting for sports teams. Picking ones because they're good maybe isn't such a bad idea. Hey, Yankees jerseys are on sale right now, too. Maybe all you fake Domers should get 'em while their hot. My dad went to Notre Dame, my mom lived 3 miles from the campus for the first 22 years of her life, and everyone in both extended families roots for Notre Dame. If I wanted to jump on a bandwagon I'd root for Florida State, or Michigan, or another of those teams that have been to about 35 straight bowl games, as opposed to a program that hasn't even won a bowl game in 12 years. I can't speak for every ND fan on here, but I could not have chosen another football team even if I'd wanted to. You might want to learn something about people before you start throwing out accusations like that next time. Just a suggestion. Oh, relax ND. I'm 75% messing with you. You guys get so riled up about ND, I just can't resist. Go PSU! Good luck to Kansas. Talk about a schedule! Northwestern State last week and NOW Louisiana-Monroe! Well, I guess when you're one of the big boys you have to be willing to play all-comers. Scheduling Toledo next week, though, just seems like a suicide mission!
  13. We start two running backs. In one spot, I've got Shaun Alexander. In the other spot, I need to pick between Chris Brown (vs. NYJ), Fred Taylor (vs. Dal) and Julius Jones (vs. Jax). Who would you go with?
  14. Well, then can we have pride in any professional team?

  16. --Joe Paterno If he, or anyone for that matter, believes that Penn State has half the history of Notre Dame then he really is completely senile. another golden domer crawls out of the woodwork I'm not quite sure what that means. I grew up within an hour of South Bend, I'm Irish, and I've watched every ND game thats been televised over the last 15 years. If you're implying that I'm some sort of bandwagoner, well, that's insane.
  17. I hope Kansas can actually win more than 6 games in the absolutely awful Big 12.
  18. --Joe Paterno If he, or anyone for that matter, believes that Penn State has half the history of Notre Dame then he really is completely senile.
  19. Keep dreaming.
  20. Anyone else feelin' like the fix may be in?
  21. Not me. Michigan the week AFTER Penn State is going to be very, very tough. Then we have to hope we don't have a let down the next week @Michigan State. If we get through the first four weeks unscathed, though, we're going to the championship game. Purdue-Stanford-UCLA-Navy-North Carolina-Air Force-Army are all blow outs waiting to happen. If we're undefeated going into USC, anything but a thrashing puts us in the title game.
  22. When does the voting end for this matchup?
  23. While I appreciate the Bears' info, posting the full-text of articles from a pay site is probably not the best idea.
  24. No it doesn't. The are better, only because the Yankees current OF of Cabrera/Damon/Williams blows chunks. Abreu IS AN OBVIOUS upgrade. Now would he be an upgrade if the Yankees had Matsui/Sheffield instead of Cabrera/Williams.? (Obviously if they had their stars back, they wouldn't consider Abreu, nonetheless) no he wouldn't. In essence, the Yankees made a lateral move. And to pay about $30+ mill for a doubles hitter with a great OBP, still does NOT improve the Yankees. Getting Schimdt/Zito, or any solid pitcher would improve the Yankees moreso then Abreu. I am not taking away from Abreu, but considering the talent level on the Yankees, already...they didn't get better. They ALREADY had the offense, they needed they pitcher. This was a move to make a move type deal, kinda like a more expensive Raul Mondesi type deal. And Lidle---while an improvement over Ponson (my left arm is better then Ponson) is still a not-so-great move. All I can say is this...WHAT THEY HECK ARE THE YANKEES THINKING ABOUT? Cause it ain't about winning. All of this seems so illogical. "Yeah he's better, but they aren't getting better!" So if I'm a billionaire, and I add another billion in assets, did I not get richer because I'm already rich?
  25. Personally, I don't think this was a great deal for the Brewers at all. Nix is awful. Nelson Cruz>Nix. Mench is very middle-of-the-road, and Cordero is mediocre at best and is 31. I'm not a huge Lee fan, but I think they could have gotten so much more for him than this mediocre package of players.
