  1. I’m sure the Braves catching brain trust of McCann, Flowers And Cervelli will make sure cooler heads prevail I just woke up and I’m having coffee and hanging with my dog and reading this thread and I saw this comment and howled. Well done, sir
  2. if it's Loretta, Chris Berman can revive his "Mark Loretta 'Modern'" schtick
  3. OK, to me those numbers are pretty similar. A few more walks, RBI and hits for Harper in more ABs. Right? What am I missing?
  4. I told a colleague this year at the beginning of the year that Schwarbs and Harper would be essentially the same player. He said my argument was ludicrous. Maybe it was but look at their stats this year: Schwarber Harper 528 AB 568 AB 132 H 147 H 38 HR 35 HR .250 BA .259 82 R 98 R 92 RBI 114 RBI .340 OBP .372 .532 SLG .511 .872 OPS .883 70 BB 99 BB 155 K 170 K 2.3 WAR 3.9 WAR
  5. maybe they are trying to take him off the market?
  6. It was so tantalizing seeing what Morrow could be though. I remember one game he came in in a tough spot with 2 outs in the 9th — he threw three straight unhittable 101 mph fastballs to end the game.
  7. LOL this Cubs road trip is like an Arab spring for its fans
  8. Jersey Cubs fan: Enjoy! I’m in Wildwood crest myself this weekend.
  9. Petition for moar Tom Waits references on game threads pls.
  10. “Wick has been really good this year.” — Capt. Obvious
  11. So under the new single-trade-deadline rules, Lucroy won’t be able to make the postseason roster, correct? Sorry if I missed this earlier — I just didn’t see were it was explained. What if, God forbid, Willson can’t go?
  12. “Javy” is a pretty common nickname in Spanish-speaking places — I knew a lot of Javys when I lived in PR It’s not one of those typical meatball things where you add a y at the end of a guy’s name
  13. I don't watch that much but every time I have seen him he seems like he just creams the ball, every at-bat.
  14. i gotta tell ya, the fact that the brewers and cardinals also suck does absolutely nothing for me anymore Totally agree with this, because who cares if the Cubs win the division? They've shown no reason for us to be optimistic they can do anything in the postseason. If they are going to get waxed by the Braves or whomever in the first round, who really cares?
  15. Watching the Yankees-Rockies game just now. The Yankees had a catcher’s interference that was so blatant Sanchez was shaking his glove in pain from hitting the bat. Ump didn’t call it.
  16. And no walks today by Cubs pitchers? Commendable
  17. Maddon probably wanted him to leave on a high note because he never has won at Wrigley
  18. Nova’s approach seems to work really well against these Cubs hitters. With both him and Kyle pitching, this could be a very quick game
  19. My 3 year old thought it was the funniest thing ever when he said, “let’s get some cookies” in instead of runs! It was!
  20. How did the Cubs ever let Derek Johnson get away? Look what he’s done with Cincinnati’s pitching this year
  21. that Almora at-bat had a really bad outcome.
  22. Larry David explaining how he got Buckner on Curb
  23. One of the funniest CYE episodes ever was in NY when Larry David threw Buck a ball and of course he fumbled it.
  24. I remember being totally bummed about Bill Madlock being traded away, and then Buckner showed up and quickly filled that void for me. Loved watching him hit -- the crazy thing was he basically never struck out
