  1. Okay so I was a catcher on my College team and every year I was taught a new trick on how to help the pitchers get a (better grip) on the ball. From catchers I have talked to and my friends in the minors, it is usually the catchers who are helping the pitchers get something on the ball. Think about it, we are hitters and are allowed to have pine tar on our hand, so if some gets on the ball from the catcher, what can you do. We rub the balls down right in front of the umpires and scrap the same spot on our shin gaurds before we throw the ball back to the pitcher. Or many many other tricks that any catcher going through college balls or the minors has been taught along the way. And yes it helps the pitchers and is a complete unfair advantage to batters. If you can get the pine tar on the seams of the ball, a pitcher can throw an unhittable curve ball, and even more devestating change up. It is not the fast ball that it gives the advantage to, it is the offspead pitches. Do I think that its something that should get you in trouble? NO, its plain and simple part of the game. Pitchers grown their finger nails out to dig into the ball, should that be illegal? Football players wear gloves that seem to have glue on them so that they can catch the ball better, hockey goalies add padding to thier equipment just to be a little bit bigger, basketball players take 100 steps to get to the basket. In every game there are things that go on, that people might not think is appropriate, but its part of the game. Live with it or move on.
  2. The Cubs are in last place in the NL CENTRAL and have one of the top 10 payrolls. This is simply just not acceptable. I dont care who the manager is and how many injuries they have, or how bad the GM is. They have talent on their team but dont know how to play baseball. The Cubs must sign a guy like ZITO he simply knows the game. He knows what he is doing. They then have to dump Jones, Cedeno, Izturis, and Mabry and replace them with either prospects or sign FA or aquire sove smart veterans through a trade. A rotation of: Z, Hill, Padila*SP*, Prior, and who ever with: Piere, Izturis, Lee, Aram, Barret, Jones, Murton, and Cedeno will see the Cubs chasing last place once again next year. This would provide for very little improvement and you know the rest of the division will be better next year. The Cubs need more then one or two big names like (Zito, CLee) they need to revamp the team and until then they should not sign any big contracts and should go with the young talent and get ride of the not smart baseball players.
  3. He had done nothing but impressed me since he has been up with the Cubs. He plays hard, he hits the ball, and he plays good defense. I would rather see Theriot playing second every day then Cedeno or at least switch them off when Izturis gets back.
  4. I feel sorry for the guy a little. He has been tossed from starter to reliever more then any pitcher on the Cubs. He comes in and does a good job for a few games and then blows up and goes on the DL. Comes back in relief pitches a little till the next injury and then starts the cycle all over again. I would not be happy to see him go if it really showed like he wanted to be here. He has just gotten bigger and bigger since he got his contract. Never shows emotion and goes on mysterious DL appearances. What is with the new adds on this site?
  5. who is the team doctor and does he get paid bassed on how many injuries the Cubs have. This guy has to be one of the richest men on the earth by now.
  6. Soriano right now is one of the elite offensive players in the game. Case closed. The things he is doing this year is unbelievable for a guy his size. He is absolutly crushing the ball specially when he played the Cubs. Plus, he has what 30 stolen bases. He is Pierre + Aram = Soriano. This guy should bat prob. 3rd on a normal team, but if Lee comes back to 05 form Soriano would be a great 5th hitter. Lee and Soriano could add 80 HRS to the Cubs line up.
  7. Shouldn't Aramis been able to keep running since their third baseman pushed the ball under the tarp all be by accident?
  8. There are about 5 pitchers on that list that could fill in the bottom of the rotation and 2 guys that could fill in the top of the rotation. I would rank them as: Schmidt and Zito as top of the line guys. Then, Mulder, Lilly, Wolf, Marquis, Easton, and Armas. When looking at the age and stats for these guys they all seem like they have more potential then they have lived up to. Mulder seems to be a little injury prone and has been out for two months with a left shoulder injury, but I would take a chance on him. OHh yea I would take Mad dog back too.
  9. THere has to be something we are missing here. Doesn't look like this guy is a star or anything, but does look to be a servicable back up catcher. Nefi should have been able to been had for just about nothing. I guess the Tigers are set with Pudge but a good back up is always needed.
  10. Ohh great now Cedeno is falling apart without his spanish speaking friend.....ohh well we still have the Riot!!
  11. The best think is that Theriot and Ceddeno will be at second every day now!! Dont get me wrong I hope he goes on and does great in Det. and keeps the Sox from winning the division, but the best thing is that he is gone from Dusty!
  12. Bob just said the best comment of the day, Theriot should be getting some more playing time now.
  13. What are they looking for by having him come back at the end of the season? Possibly giving him some bats and letting him get his swing back but then he just has to rest all summer so that doesn't make sense. He could help the team win a few more games, but who cares if they win a few more games right now with him or not. The negitives are easy he isn't 100% and he gets injured and misses any part of next year or is slowed at all.
  14. I honestly didn't see that many hard hit balls off of him. Yea there were a lot of fly balls but that doesn't mean they were all hit hard. Maybe 2 or 3 went to the track, but that is normal to see one or two pretty much every game. I think he was very good at locating the ball low when he missed and not getting the ball up too much besides to that Biggio guy who kills the Cubs. Best of all the Cubs staff has possibly found out that you can be good with out throwing 100 mph. He threw a good change today and kept the batters off sitting on his fast ball. I dont think he is going to be great, but I could see him being a useful pitcher if he can get a chance. I would rank him 5th of the 7 new pitchers this year.
  15. What about the pitching, how come no one realizes that their pitching can also be to blame. This was a team that was supposed to be built on their pitching staff not their hitting. There is one guy I blame and that has to be a guy I was a supporter of his entire carrer with the Cubs and its the pitching coah. It is the only thing that makes sense to me, he has to give them the idea that its okay to be so fine and walk guys instead of letting them hit the ball. There are 7 guys behind the pitcher, and overall the Cubs have a pretty good defense in my opinion so let them play. It can't always be about strike outs and walks. I can't believe they didn't learn anything from Mad Dog but I guess he didn't have the success here to translate that they can be effective letting guy hit the ball.
  16. I dont want to see them all sad and depressed, half of them havn't been there all year so they are fighting to show that they deserve to be there next year. I like when even if the chips are aganist you, that you find a way to still do your best, and over the past month or so I have seen nothing from the Cubs players but all out hustle and emotion in a possitive aspect. I deffinitly think that big Z is already the new captain of the team. You can just see everyone looks up to him, plus he is the BEST player on the team.
  17. I know it doesn't mean a thing and its great that they can have fun when they are almost 20 games under 500 but I like to see when players never seem to quit. This game today gives me a little hope for next year and the years to come. They are all very young and have the will to play the game as hard as they can no matter what. They seem to get along and had a thing going on in the dugout today maybe it can be built upon for the next few years. Keep the rally hats going in the dugout they can be like a college team, I woulf find it fun to watch.
  18. Way to go Matty M maybe you can play tomorrow!!!!!
  19. ohh no dusty is talking to Murton we are in trouble...
  20. too bad this game didn't happen in the begining of the year. It looks like it could be one game that can bring a team togoether. If there is anything to the team chemistry it looks like they have it when looking at the dugout.
  21. very well said
  22. I have to agree with cubbiechris there was a big fan base for Hendry and if they would have won there would be no discussion right now as if he was considered a genious if you can get the Cubs there. You have to admit that was the closest we have all pretty much seen.
