  1. I played with him for 5 years all through High School. He played on the Lombard Lightning with me, and came on the team and showed me up. I was always one of the guys with the best arm, and I was the catcher. He came and played with us and was throwing around 90 from short stop. He is a great kid with a great aditude. The only problem is that he has only started pitching in college, and he is very wild still. I currently play on the Oswego Cats and played him last year when he was on the Lombard Orioles (independent teams) and we are good friends which made him nervous I hope because he hit my 2 out of the 4 times I faced him with a 93 mph fast ball near my head both times. If you can guess I didnt' come close to hitting the ball the rest of the time.
  2. around 8 million a year? Yea thats a lot of money for a 3rd pitcher on a staff, but what are we paying Maddux 10 million a year to be the fifth starter. Washburn would have been huge if he continued to pitch like he did away from Home over his stay with the Angels. He would have helped Barret because he doesn't allow stolen bases and seemed like he would have won a lot more games for the Cubs then say Cliff Floyd.
  3. I know everyone is worried about what players are going to play what positions like SS, 2nd, and RF. However, does anyone else think that if we went out and got at least a good 3rd pitcher instead of a middle of the road RF like it looks like they are going to get, then they would win more games. Like a Washburn who seems like he is going to get signed at a decent price. I just think that there are a lot more viable candidates for a good pitcher then a good position player. [/b]
  4. If he has made it wide known that he would play any position why wouldn't the Cubs have made any effort to get him at a disscount price once again. I am not saying they should have offered multi-year deals or anything but give him a chance to play as the best 2nd baseman or OF we would have had?
  5. Marlins #1? How could that be possible. They traded their entire starting lineup from a year ago besides for Cabrera for mid-level minor league players who may or not pan out to be mid-to-low-end players. This was a team that could have contended for the world series if they added maybe one or two players. Now they have set their franchise back to rebuilding stages like when they were first introduced into the MLB. They got some players in return that could possibly fill out half their lineup besides for that they gave players away. They would recieve a C- from me. Cubs would get a solid B they have picked up two of the top relieve pitchers from the FA market so they hopefully corrected one need, they got a lead off hitter and CF which they needed, now they need a RF and a IFer in my mind. They have given up very little and gotten a lot more in my oppinion.
  6. The Cubs should hold on to Patterson. I know everyone in this board seems to hate the guy however, two years ago before he got injured he was on his way the the all-star game. Athletes have bad years and have trouble getting out of funks. This is a guy that has produced all his life and should be a valued player. If he is on the bench he would add many factors to the team including speed and agility. A good defensive replacement for who ever we are going to have in RF who prob. wont be able to catch the ball. And and insurance policy if the great Murton doesn't produce like everyone is sure he will. Let this guy alone and keep him on the team he is worth more then anything else we could get.
  7. I was just wondering how many Cubs fans jumped on the bandwaggon and tried to get Sox tickets to the World Series. I will admit I tried to get the tickets because I dont know when the next time there will be a chance to see a World Series in Chicago..But if anyone did get some and are willing to tell their secrets or offer some up for biding let me know. Thanks
  8. Washburn I think he is a stud lefty and no one talks about much..
  9. As a college catcher it is interesting in what is valued more Offense of Defense for a cattcher. Defense: Can save game by blocking balls and giving pitchers confidence to throw a strike out pitch in the dirt. Good pitch calling can create outs and get double plays and avoid big innings. The less a pitcher thinks the better he will pitch. Offense: without it you have Blanko? can create big inning by getting on base and driving in runs. But a catcher usually bats 8th and can some times be hidden in the order. If the cubs had a better all around team I would support going out and trying to improve in a defensive manner for a catcher, because I might be bias but I think its one of the most important positions. I liked Miller a lot I just wish he could have hit just a bit more, but if he was 5 years younger I would want him over Barret. NOT that I don't like Barret and in no way is he responsible for the short coming of the team.
  10. I am surprised that he doesn't get more attention, but that is just how he has always been. When Clemes was going for his 300th win it was a huge thing and everyone paid attention. However, when maddog did it there was attention but nothing like Clemens. That is just how he seems to like it. He says he will look back on his baseball career when he is retired. But I am extremely excited about the game today, and I hope that he brings in a win or I know he will be upset about the game. I hope people take time out to give him a nice round of applause becuase he deserves it. He is in the top 3 pitchers of this decade and I for one and excited that he is back on the Cubs. He may not be that one or two guy but he is an huge number three. I will take him as long as he wants to pitch.
  11. yes, like I said I wouldn't usually judge a guy on one game. HOWEVER, I dont think I am judging him on one game I amd judging him on his past years. He has never been able to handle a pressure situation, and he had folded in the second half of year. People blame it on Dusty but Farns has to take some responsibility for his crashes. AKA hitting a fan and banging up other pitchers. I think I would rather have Novoa on the team in the second half when every game counts rather then Farnsworth who admitingly has his blow ups.
  12. Watching this sox game I now understand the trade the Cubs did earlier this year to get ride of Kyle Farnsworth. I understand that he has had a good season so far but this is still kyle Farnsworth who will look like a top notch pitcher and then the next game look like another head case that can't throw a ball for a strike. I was upset at the trade most the year, and usually I would say you can't judge someone one one game. However, this insident just reminds me of the past few years and how aggervating it has been to see him have so much potential and such a big head case. Anyone else see this game today?
  13. he has also been picking it up as of late. I would love to get that speedy leadoff hitter to take some of the attention off D. Lee when he is up and make even a few more mistake pitches to him. I threat on the basses is something that the Cubs do not have right now, and something that is highly underestimated (whitesox).
  14. I dont post much either, but when I read that last one it was one of the best things I have ever read. That being said I dont see this trade happening untill the series is over. It would be a little awkward to trade guys in the middle of a series, so it looks like we will all have to wait more then a few days to find out if this is true: Lineup: Harriston Walker Lee Ramirez Dunn Burny Nomar (Cedeno) catcher spot Zambrano* *I love watching him play
  15. finally 21 pages read. WOW you guys can write a lot. But, after reading through all these pages I am confused in why everyone likes Dunn SO MUCH!! He is an average player with good power and with a .240 average. I have watched a lot of him lately and it is ugly to see that if he doesn't hit the ball out of the park he will most likely strike out. You guys were all over Sosa last year and now you want Dunn??? I just dont understand it... To the point about the trade. The trade is simple it does make us better. Dubois was in the minors not helping the cubs get the wild card, this guy will be in the majors actually helping. If he pinch hits one time and gets a hit that drives in a winning run then the entire trade paid off. Be excited the cubs got a player that can have a role for one that had none.
