  1. Knowing the issues Congress wastes time on these days, Raffy will probably get slapped with perjury. Big Mac looks pretty good right now.
  2. Keep in mind, BALCO isn't the only lab that makes "undetectable steroids" for athletes. This could have just been a failure or Raffy taking too much too close to a test. Not everything is the same and I'm pretty sure they all have different detection cycles. Pretty sure there's a decent number of guys in MLB still on the juice, although the testing has made a lot quit obviously. I think we'll find out pretty soon that most of the guys who got called in front of Congress were on the juice.
  3. CubsWin, I think you've got the lineup there once Nomar knocks the rust off. Lots of RBI chances for the sluggers and you've got pretty good hitters 6-8. Should score some runs. Hopefully it works out defensively.
  4. Patterson would be worth bringing up when the rosters expand just as a full-time pinch runner and as a defensive replacement, if nothing else. Certainly he'd have more value for the team than calling up some kid/AAA player 4 lyfe who'll never get in a game. We'd win a couple games in this last stretch with Corey pinch-running in key spots. And if we fall out of the race, he'd get some good playing time.
  5. Haha, for what it's worth, Lawton has a better OBP than Johnny Damon by .001 this year.
  6. ESPN now confirming it's Gerut for Lawton straight up. Excellent move by Hendry.
  7. FWIW, Griffey and Kearns aren't starting for Cincy today.
  8. If they trade Walker without getting Soriano, do the Cubs rotate Nomar, Neifi, and Ronny at SS/2B? I could live with that if we get some help elsewhere. In a dream scenario, we'd send one of Hairston/Walker to the Reds as far of the package for Adam Dunn and Ryan Freel (who leads off, plays OF/2B/3B, over .400 OBP, steals bases). Unfortunately the Reds aren't stupid enough to do that.
  9. We've only got a limited window until Prior, Z, ARam, and Lee are making $10+ million somewhere (at least). How much money will Lee's agent want after 06 if he keeps playing like he has so far this season? Gotta make a move to set us up for the rest of this year and 06 in the OF.
  10. I really feel this team is going to get buried if we don't get a bat. It's going to take a couple weeks in the bigs for Nomar to get back to normal and Wood is a huge question mark out of the pen. I think Williamson is the only sure thing, but getting a good setup man for Dempster isn't going to help if we can't start scoring more runs. We've got to do something soon as the window on this team is going to start closing when Lee and A-Ram become free agents (talk about a big bump in pay if they play at their current levels), and completely close once Prior and Z are free agents.
  11. The current Reds management is terrible and they're not willing to spend money like the old regime. If the Reds don't get rid of one of the OF or Casey in a seller's market this year, you have to consider them to be huge losers and pretty much inept. At least they got pretty good value for Randa. The other problem is the Reds aren't even on TV here in Southeast Indiana, and I live a hour from the ballpark! In essence, they've ceded Southern Indiana to the Cubs.
  12. There was a good amount of speculation about Clement for Nomar, but it kind of died out until about this time last year.
  13. You'd like to see Hill be more efficient with his pitches but so far, so good.
  14. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3839346 Apparently, Fox Sports is hearing some good things about us.
  15. This would be a great move, gives us the best offensive IF in baseball in 05 and probably 06, plus leaves enough salary flexibility to sign a good OF in 06.
  16. Doubleswitch with Gerut in for Murton
  17. Bases full of D-Backs, Williams over 120 pitches, bring in someone who can get a double-play plz.
  18. Williams going to pitch until his arm falls off today, apparently.
  19. Geez, make this guy throw some pitches, this is ridiclous.
  20. Murton is now hitting .500
  21. Good lineup if Walker is taking a day off, I'd swap Murton and Cedeno though.
  22. The only excuse for not running hard is if they have leg injuries or if they are a pitcher. If these guys can't sprint 90 ft without getting gassed they shouldn't be playing baseball. Like everyone else said, it puts a lot of pressure on the fielder to make the right play in time.
  23. Walk coming for Lee here I bet, probably will be up to Burnitz.
  24. I think he's just stubborn and loyal. Anyone can see Hollandsworth is in a major slump and Murton is hitting very well at this point.
  25. We have Gerut and Hairston left on the bench. Bet Hairston leads off next inning.
