  1. maddux is starting to settle down, now get some runs, idiots.
  2. well, at least Duke is mortal at the plate. maddux gets the K.
  3. i don't know what's worse, the coaches calling for that bunt, or Hairston doing it on his own. That could not have possibly been a called bunt. Dusty's not that dumb....is he? i don't know. it took him 80+ games to put decent OBP guys 1 and 2 in the order. anything is possible with Dusty.
  4. i don't know what's worse, the coaches calling for that bunt, or Hairston doing it on his own.
  5. ok, cedeno and maddux are getting hits off Duke. what is everyone elses excuse?
  6. ah, the newer blood gets it done. thank you, Cedeno!!
  7. how many pitches for Duke? let's get into the pen asap.
  8. ARam, no more first pitch stuff today...unless you get a hit.
  9. why didn't burnitz come up throwing. a nice throw easy nails cota at 3rd. oh well. come on Maddux.
  10. he was the best pitcher in the Pirates' minor league system. his control looks really good.
  11. wilson, at least try to get out of the way. :?
  12. bay clobbers a hanging breaking ball into the seats. 0-1 Pirates.
  13. he was doing well there for a bit, striking out two in a row with no outs initially and men in scoring position. that Sheffield/ARod combo seems to be pretty effective...especially when you have Matsui protecting them. i'm glad the yankees don't have their starting rotation in order or they could be trouble.
  14. I don't know when Hendry will pull the trigger on a trade, but the Cubs certainly won't be sellers with their payroll. I doubt we'll be sellers as well. There's no real need to have a firesale as we're not even close to violating the 60/40 rule. I guess hendry has to decide to go with what we've got (and those coming back from the DL) or make a trade. I'd like to see a trade made, but only for a player(s) who will be here for next year at the very least. No rentals...b/c we're going to have to deal prospects in this market.
  15. I think the braves are on a budget this year, unlike in decades past, so maddux probably won't go to them unless we paid a significant portion of his remaining salary. btw, i don't think you trade a guy like Maddux in the second half of the season where he is solid...not to mention that he comes with extensive playoff experience.
  16. I liked Farnsy, but he seems to be the type of player that needs a smaller market team to help him succeed. The pressure of Wrigley gets to a lot of players with potential (eg CPat). It's going to be interesting seeing how Farnsworth does in the closer's role. He may crumble under the pressure, or he could show us the potential we all knew he had in him. I don't think he's laid back enough to be a closer, but we'll see. You get rocked sooner or later with the game on the line and how you bounce back is what makes a closer good.
  17. I agree that the cost vs. reward of acquiring Guardado or Wagner is too great especially when they don't feel specific current needs. It's going to be hard enough filling the holes we have w/o creating imaginary ones (need for a closer).
  18. Who decides the winners of the gold glove award (managers?) and how do they go about selecting the GGers?
  19. I doubt that we will see a trade until we win a few more games. We've done well since the disaster in Atlanta, but we kind of handcuffed Hendry with that losing streak. We're certainly headed in the right direction though. Hendry, bluff? Surely not. :D
  20. I thought Hendry wanted Hill to be a starter. that's why he was sent down (to get some innings). or it could be one of those, good job kid, go back down before you get rocked and lose your confidence routines. anyway, a left handed starter is far more valuable than a left handed RP, IMO. the transition from a starter's role to the pen is tough to make b/c of the irregularity of work (eg Rusch). if we really need a dominant lefty specialist and can't shore up the pen via trade, then we can bring hill up. i love watching lefties bail out of the box when they see hill's curve. lol, good times. :D
