  1. Murton is a below avg hitter for his position and has a below avg glove. I understand he's cheap but high payroll teams should attempt to do better. I'm not sure I understand the "selling at his lowest value" argument. IMO at age 26 a .296/.365/.455 line is pretty close to his ceiling. Murton is a useful player but he's not exactly untouchable. He's not below average for his position. His numbers would easily put him in the upper half. He's at his lowest point because the Cubs have screwed around with using him as a backup to guys like Jacque Jones and Cliff Floyd, and then are spending this offseason doing whatever possible to put somebody other than Matt Murton in right field. He's letting everybody in the world know he's got no use for Matt Murton, so, if anybody wants him, they can get him easily, most likely for less than steller value in return. age 24 - AB 140 - OPS+ 132 age 25 - AB 455 - OPS+ 104 age 26 - AB 235 - OPS+ 100 Which seems like the biggest fluke here? Murton has had his opportunities, I'm not completely buying the Cubs have screwed him argument.
  2. Murton is a below avg hitter for his position and has a below avg glove. That isn't true. I assume you are referring to his glove. IIRC most metrics I've seen has him below avg.

  4. *****Wet Blanket Alert***** The most important thing is for these kids to get a good education. Something like this wouldn't help. How would it hurt? More games, less study time.

  6. Mulder is much closer to pitching again vs. Prior. I'm not so sure of that. From varying reports, Prior could be pitching in the early half of next year (certainly not opening day, though), while Mulder, according to that link, isn't expected to pitch until AT LEAST midseason 2008. At worst it looks like their current timetables are similar, with Prior's being slightly ahead. That Mulder link was from January of last year talking about how he wouldn't pitch until midseason 2007, not midseason 2008. You're right. I didn't realize Prior was that far off.
  7. He should deny their request and then seek Mulder money +.
  8. I just heard the Card's have bulk ordered Husky Baseball Pants© so maybe there's truth to the Rusch rumors.
  9. Thanks for your valued input, Derwood.
  10. I'm not going to completely defend the contract but their bullpen does need an ace. It's not like players are beating down the Red's door to be in Cin. On msg boards I've noticed about 90% of the major signing are met with complete disdain. This is the MLB reality, folks.
  11. Jr. has a NTC and are you sure JH would have done that?
  12. Jocketty wasn't known for bringing in stud backup catchers.
  13. 9 mos is a pretty long time to wait.
  14. What else was he suppose to say? What would be gained by ripping him on the way out?
  15. Not really, other teams are smarter and know he's worse than that. Most are, but not every team. Remember Pit's lovely trading deadline move for Morris? I'm sure Hendry could find a couple teams with serious interest.
  16. Considering in 07 JM had a 4.60 ERA, 12 wins and is durable I doubt it'd be very difficult to move him.
  17. It's cool you included file attachments and jabber.
  18. Although Lee's defense is good, most defensive metrics consider him only slightly above average. FWIW last year Dewan felt his system underrated Lee: Link
  19. Looks better in Prosilver. 8-) Oh yes! User Control Panel --> Board preferences --> My board style:
  20. Pujols is the best defensive player in baseball.
  21. Wasn't the forum created because of planned mass trolling from Cards fans on CT? IIRC it never happened.
  22. I'm starting to think ARod didn't opt out for money reasons, he wants out of NYC. He's been willing to take a pay cut to change teams before.
