You're probably right. It's a unique situation because of the 2 teams in 1 city thing. I still think that once you take out the hard core Cub fan, most people in the city like him. My Mom is a good example. She loves her Cubbies but still likes Ozzie because he brought a champion to the city. My Dad is a hard core Cub fan (you'd like him) and he can't stand Ozzie. How the heck did you become a Cards fan? He has good taste.
Nope. Do we get Reyes in this deal? Meat & Potatoes makes a great point. Why does our organization continue to hold this guy back? Everyone outside of Carp and perhaps Mulder and Suppan, deserves a challenge from Reyes. Created a new thread for this one.

I love Yadi but Barrett was way better last year and should be better this year. The .641 CS % is nice but I'll take Barrett's power over that any day.
True. And from my understanding, the book made no evaluations of catchers either. Yeah the guy on CardsTalk mentioned that it didnt do catchers. I have to agree with Z38 though any defensive evaluation that puts Lee behind Ward loses a little in my eyes. Anyone who has watched baseball should be able to tell the Lee is 100 times better a defensive player then Ward. Anyone who has watched baseball should be able to tell you Jeter is a great defensive shortstop. Anyone who has watched baseball should be able to tell small ball works. Anyone who has watched baseball should be able to tell certain players are clutch. I’m very skeptical but I’ll keep an open mind. :D
My bad. You did say that. But you also said Pujols is "no slouch" in the field, when he is in fact, quite slouchy. I've seen defensive metrics all over the map in regards to Pujols defense. I consider him around average.
I'd take Arod for the next few years however considering Pujols age long term I'd take Pujols. Another thought, if Jeter is such a great team guy why didn't he change positions to accommodate A-Rod who’s a better defender? edit - spelling issue
yes, but the number they spit out is r/g, not a number of runs for the full season. taking the number it spits out and multiplying it be 162 would not be useful, as far as coming up with an accurate projection for the number of runs your teams will score in the coming season with a given lineup. Ack, I deleted this stupid post but you caught me before it was gone! #-o
Well my girlfriend was able to tickets to a couple of Cards games after all! Woohoo! I might be interested in buying a ticket to the NSBB game if anyone has an extra. That said it might not be advisable considering I'd wear my cards hat.
Doesn't look like it. There are still over 2000 bleacher tickets available for the 7/29 cubs/cards game. The saturday White Sox game isn't sold out, either. Yeah, my gf got a horrible number so I told her not to bother. I didn't realize getting tickets was such an ordeal.
I'll include defense and baserunning 1) Ruth 2) Bonds 3) Mays 4) Williams 5) Musial 1) Roger Clemens 2) Walter Johnson 3) Lefty Grove 4) Tom Seaver 5) Cy Young
Well, you can always move Ramirez to 1B (mostly kidding). You could trade for the Reds-Player-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named and stick him at 1B. Dopirak might explode. Sing could be serviceable for half a year. There are usually other 1B available via trade... ...it's not a knock against Derrek Lee, it's more like being realistic as far as how much you pay him. He's got to prove that 2005 wasn't a blip, a fluke, before he's worth Konerko-type money. Lee has always been better than Konerko and will be better in the future. I'm not saying the Cubs should go hog wild however they are a team that can overpay a little, considering the Yanks and BSox might be looking for a 1B in 07 this looks like a situation where it might be justified. If the Cubs can agree with 5\70 type deal I'd pull the trigger.
None of them are worth that much. They were both overpaid and Lee would certainly be overpaid at 15 a year. That's the market now. Do you refuse to pay big money to big stars because the market's inflated? I'm not saying we should be the Yankees, but we also shouldn't be Kansas City. Damon isn't a star and didn't deserve that much money. Neither is Furcal. Tell me, how did the contract that the Mets gave to Beltran work out? In order for a team to pay a player that much money at 30-31 years of age or older, they better have one hell of a track record. So do you suggest the Cubs shouldn't enter the FA market? Is that realistic?

I know the WS changed things a little however was Konerko a big star? I'd rather have Lee than Konerko. -edit wow both are 30... Baseball Prospectus PECOTA projects Konerko VORP 06 - 27.1 07 - 22.9 08 - 13.7 09 - 11.8 Lee VORP 06 - 51.1 07 - 40.3 08 - 40.3 09 - 27.3
I agree there should be restrictions on the size of the armor. Thanks to the armor Bonds gets away with leaning out over the plate and shrinking the zone, and it also lets him use a tiny bat while still covering the whole plate. Then he gets all hissy when a pitcher throws inside. There are restrictions now however when the rule was created Bond's armor was grandfathered in. :?
