  1. Maybe Dusty will say he doesn't want to be back...
  2. Yep, assuming he's on the market there's only about 3 or 4 teams that have the top tier young talent for him.
  3. It know the Cardinals made a strong push for him before the trade deadline. It's rumored they offered Reyes and Rasmus (their top prospect) for him but it wasn't enough.
  4. I'd like to see Dusty back for the following reasons: 1) He's done a great job with the Cub's young pitcher. 2) Clever lineup construction. 3) Teh toothpicks. 4) He understands that vets are the only "real" option. 5) He's proved forearm sweatbands can be stylish. 6) Prefers guys with speed and low OBP over slow base cloggers. 7) Dude. Who's with me?
  5. It is remarkable when you think about it. I don't really think it's a compliment towards the Cards, just a strange fact.
  6. Marquis should not be wearing a MLB uniform.
  7. Mods, please delete this thread.
  8. too bad too because the 2004 version would annihilate the mets and yankees pitching staffs. you guys blew your window I'm afraid. Luckily for you the cardinals will rebuild and the NL Central is horrible. I think the 07 team will be better but I might never see a better Cards team then 04. Oh well...
  9. True, I guess it depends on the Cubs goals for contending next year. In fact if I were Hendry the ARam situation might help those goals. With Aram and a few more decent moves I could see the Cubs contending next year since the NLC is so bad. I hate hearing the phrase "a few decent moves" in regards to what the Cubs need to do in the offseason. Don't get me wrong, it's the truth. It just doesn't bode well for the Cubs next year when you need more than a move or two in the offseason to help the team contend. The add in the fact that the Cubs were 5 outs from the World Series just three seasons ago and now they are likely going to have the worst record in the National League. There's one thing Cards and Cub fans can agree on... Thank Jeebus we play in the NLC.
  10. They are whining that this team doesn't look like the 04 or 05 version. After 2 years in a roe of 100+ wins it's a tough team to watch.
  11. With Carp on the mound I think I'd rather deal with the Mets in a shorter series. Either way we'll most likely lose.
  12. Right now a lot Cards fans are whining like spoiled brats.

  15. Who says he doesn't have to? He does. Aramis is more important to the Cubs than any other team I can think of. If he is gone they will have one legitmate power hitter in the line up. Add in the fact that they will also have to replace a position in which there isn't a whole lot of talent avaliable. Losing Aramis could set up a cascade of bad trades in an effort to replace him. Aramis has to be resigned even if it costs the Cubs. Aramis deserves a big contract. I agree, he deserves a big contract. My only point is the deals a club feels like they have to make are often the ones that end up haunting them the most. Depending on the contract size it'll be tough to blame Hendry if he goes elsewhere.
  16. It's actually quite a different situation. He signed Lee early in the season, when he had incentive to sign early (avoiding the risk that injury would hurt his negotiations). With Aramis the season is over. There's no incentive to sign early. Hendry is up the proverbial creek with Aramis. He's got to sign him and Aramis's agent knows it. Hendry would look like a complete fool if RAM bolts. Not only would he look like a fool, but he would probably be an unemployed fool next fall. There would be too many holes to fill if ARam leaves. He'd be a fool to give ARam a stupid contract because he feels like he has to. Stupid contract? What your idea of a stupid contract? There doesn't seem to be a lot of support for the 5\75m contract I floated. My point isn't about the actual money involved it's a GM doing something stupid because he feels like he has to instead of what he should do. It’s a recipe for disaster. Why would signing RAM be stupid? What should he do? I'm not saying signing ARam is stupid, IMO he'd be the most desirable FA position player on the market. I think giving him a ridiculous contract because a GM feels like they have to is stupid.

  19. I think the Bears are going to win this game. They played their worst and they're only down by 3.
  20. I guess my reasoning is we haven't heard much from the ARam side and there seems to be a lot of interest out there. I wasn't trying to come off as a troll.
  21. True, my point is I don't think that's very realistic. Your brain doesn't want it to sound realistic because you are a cards fan. We'll see. I think it's more likely he works something out with the Cubs before he opts out. . Or maybe you want it to sound realistic because you're a Cubs fan. Why hasn't Hendry had major discussions with him yet? Why wouldn't he opt out? Do you really think he'd turn down more years and money because he loves playing for the Cubs (this might be my bias here but the Cubs are in last place)? I could be wrong but all major signs point towards him opting out. actually all major signs point toward hendry re-signing him in the next few weeks. What are those?

  23. they aren't competing until Ramirez opts out. no doubt his agent is aware of the teams interested but they can't contact him. Unless he has a major injury in the last few games is there any doubt he won't opt out? Just because he's told the Cubs he has interest doesn't mean he's willing to give a discount. It's pretty telling Hendry hasn't had major discussions with ARam at this point. Does anyone think he's having so much fun as a Cub he'd walk away from more years and money from somewhere else? With those major market teams in play I think it's pretty clear it's going to take more than 4/52 to get it done. IMO he'll be the most desirable position player on the market. How often to do those players sign for less then you thought they would? As an aside, I read in Buster Onley's blog that the Padres also might have interest.
