  1. Dunno...gameday just said injury timeout...
  2. How does Taguchi line a ball to the wall and not get to 2b?
  3. If by sporadic, you mean consistent, then yes.
  4. Could Neifi actually be taking a walk here....?
  5. What? A striped bass or girlfriend analogy?
  6. Boy, we're just showing terrific patience....
  7. Good thing Carlos only threw 80 innings in NY...looks like tha game plan is to work him and get him out of the game...
  8. I have a feeling Z would literally break Taguchi were he to charge the mound. It would not be pretty I have that feeling too, but never underestimate the power of Taguchi. Z's crazy enough to run past Taguchi, pick up his bat, then commit a series of heinous crimes. I pity the fool who decides to charge Krazy Karlos. Remember when Bonds ran his mouth at Carlos for hitting him in the foot? Priceless. Someone charging Carlos would make the Farnsworth powerbomb of Paul Wilson look like muppets hugging. Z might be arrested when it was all said and done...

  10. I think Zambrano drills a card hitter today, given that ARam got hot yestersday in the 9th. Who wants to guess who Z will hit? I'm guessing he'll hit J-Rod or Edmonds. It would be high comedy if he hit Edmonds...
  11. Lineup per WSCR: Lawton Walker Lee Ramriez Burnitz Barrett Perez Patterson Z ...can't say I'm thrilled with Nomar being on the bench. Otherwise, it's pretty good. Just as long as we win.
  12. I respectfully disagree. Are you going to refute anything I say or are you just disagreeing? What do you want me to say? I like you guys over here, and have been posting here for a long time. I don't see any reason to kick someone when they're down, you guys are struggling and that's painful enough. I just think it's a little far fetched to start talking post season when you've won 1 game after losing 8 straight. I'm not talking postseason. The very first qualifier I wrote was that you can't take the rest of the post seriously, and can't think of yourself as a contender until you're above .500. Second of all, I don't think that it's unrealistic to think, if things go our way just a bit, that we could be within 4 games of Houston going into the final series. That's making up 3.5 games. If the Cubs get hot again (as they've done each time they went on an extended losing streak), they could be within 4 by next Friday, since we have 3 with you guys next week. So it's not as if I'm saying that the Cubs are a lock, or that they can catch St Louis, or even that they have a better than 25% chance at the WC. What I am saying is that, given the preconditions i've set, it's not impossible that we could be within 4 going into Houston.

  14. Would you rather I posted a thread about how much the Cubs suck, and how all our players suck, and how our manager super-sucks? 'Cause there are about 200 of those around here for you to peruse if you want a fix of schadenfraude. :P Seriously though, there's not much unrealism about what I wrote, Jimy. There are preconditions and 8 things that have to go right after that. That isn't pie in the sky optimism. It's a frank look at the situation our team is in. I'm deadly serious about the Astros not burying us when they had the chance last week. The fact that everyone plays everyone else in the WC the rest of the way is going to be a bigger factor that you might think.
  15. I still vote for Grudz the girlfriend. I think that's my favorite as well. The bass one is the most bewildering, but the girlfriend one is the best, since he's used variations on it a few times.
  16. That part you say about Aramis and Dlee is sadly very true. They are easily meeting (and with Lee, really exceeding) any expectation we could have had. But, as fans, of a (otherwise) weak team, we continue to expect more and more out of them. I remember thinking earlier this year, "Man, it's been like three days since Derrek a home run." A moment later I smiled, feeling pretty silly. :) Which is why Corey would be soooo important. I think he has the talent to bust out, and maybe, just maybe, going to AAA cleared his head. Even if he puts up .280/.330 typye numbers it would be a huge boost to the offense.
  17. Agreed. Nomar coming to 80% of his form would be a terrific boost, but I think Corey is the more important player. He provides power, defense and speed. Nomar would be a boost more to Lee and Aramis' task of driving in runs, wheras if Corey got going, it would be like having 2 leadoff guys in the lineup.
  18. Setting that aside, though, you can look at the two situations, and see that we're not dead yet, altough we're looking at the crash cart....
