  1. horsefeathers You!!!!!!! Javy is going to have more jewelry than Derek Jeter all in a Cubs uniform. What's wrong with exploring the market for a guy with similar flaws to his game that existed 12 months ago, but now has an LCS MVP and a Game 7 Home Run under his belt? I love Javy and think he has a ton of value. But that's precisely why you explore trading him. He should bring you back a young starting pitcher with cost control that should provide excellent value into the years beyond when Lackey, Arrietta (who I think the Cubs have no desire to re-sign), and now Hammel are gone. Baez is inexpensive, an immensely talented defensive player at at least 3 positions in the IF, and can probably play 3 more at at least replacement level if not better. He's got power, improved his approach from 2015 to 2016 and again in the playoffs, WS aside. Maddon loves him, his ability with the glove allows for great flexibility which allows guys to get rest and take advantage of matchups. Lester loves him defensively, and he's got an amazingly high ceiling which he's only scratching the surface of with the bat. He was always going to be slower in reaching his ceiling, but he's making improvements every year. They'd be nuts to deal Javy. If they need cost-controlled pitching that's good, that's what the near-ML ready prospects are for.
  2. I sincerely hope they don't do something like trade Javy for some pitcher.
  3. 200 wins in two years are probably pretty good reasons When you ditch all the guys who got you to 103 to make obviously dumb moves then yeah, maybe you should lose the benefit of the doubt. If you think Maddon has done his job the last 48 hours you're a fool
  4. Hey you have Kyle Hendricks on the mound with 2 outs and one on after 60 pitches BETTER PULL HIM for the guy who has the yips with guys on base
  5. Hey let's trust Joe Maddon who threw Chapman with a 5 run lead for 1+ innings yesterday for no reason.
  6. Oh hey look Joe West is demonstrating the same judgement as Maddon, because after this little burst there's a 45 min window
  7. Maybe Joe Maddon has another super progressive idea he wants to try in a game fricking 7. Idiot.
  8. Hey did you know we only have one pitcher in our bullpen because apparently that's the case
  9. Oh yeah let's put the clearly gassed Chapman in for another inning because we don't have anyone else I. The pen that contributed to the 103 win team
  10. Hey but let's trust Maddon blindly. Let's pull the league ERA leader with 1 on with a 4 run lead. Let's pull Lester because someone got an IF hit. Let's try and bunt with two strikes. He's Dusty on the opposite pole. Overmanaged and blew a 4 run lead.
  11. What the horsefeathers is wrong with you? Sorry is this attacking the post or the poster? I'll add Soler to the list of guys I shouldn't criticize, lest I get cussed out.
  12. What do those numbers say about Russell in his last 200 or so PA? Then tell me about trends and how we should react to them.
  13. They're performing as bad as he is right now and in a couple cases much worse over the past month. Why does Javy get the short leash on 3 games of struggles? Because there's a [expletive] of evidence that this is the hitter he his and that's not the case with the other guys. There may be nothing for him to come out of offensively. Oh gotcha because players don't evolve or circumstances don't change. Jorge Soler hit some HR last year so he's an offensive threat. Addison Russell is a sub Mendoza hitter since late August but that doesn't matter because reasons. Some of the arguments made in blind favor of certain players are horsefeathering insufferable.
  14. Well, those guys are actually a lot better hitters than Javy They're performing as bad as he is right now and in a couple cases much worse over the past month. Addison Russell has been pretty bad since late August Why does Javy get the short leash on 3 games of struggles?
  15. Sorry, I just can't concede that Soler's "offense" is worth sitting an excellent defender, and really can't comprehend why him jogging then stopping is being defended. It wasn't just "hesitation". He was jogging at half speed and then stopped. Had he been running, not even sprinting, he'd have been halfway to 2b when the ball dropped. Crap like that matters in the playoffs, it's not June with 100 more games to smooth out the irregularities.
  16. So you're arguing that him jogging and then stopping down the 1b line is okay and would have made no difference had he been running as hard as he was from 1st-3rd? Sound logic. Totally makes sense. soler even at full speed is absolutely not scoring on that, come on. I think heyward catches that ball in RF, but I dont think it's fair to look at one play in a game where we got shutout and the indians left like 15 guys on base and go "yeah we need more defense" You don't think run prevention when nearly your entire lineup save one guy isn't hitting becomes a priority? Jorge Soler isn't the answer to our offensive struggles. The guys who normally hit well need to stop trying to be heros and we'll be fine but I'd rather roll with the team that got you through the LDS/LCS than decide that the low probability that Jorge Soler stops being who he is helps you more than Jason Heyward being who he's been all year.
  17. So you're arguing that him jogging and then stopping down the 1b line is okay and would have made no difference had he been running as hard as he was from 1st-3rd? Sound logic. Totally makes sense. Why would anyone bust ass out of the box assuming that could be an inside the park homerun? Off the bat it looked like a routine foul ball. Which player on the roster do you believe would have turned that into a homerun? Any non Schwarber, non catcher would have had a shot if they were, you know, running like you are supposed to do. Why wouldn't you run?
  18. [fade][/fade] Had he been running down to first instead of jogging, then stopping? Yeah, there would have been a chance. Sorry, I forgot I'm not allowed to question one of Theo's guys. Question whoever you want but when it involves complaining about a bloop to RF that wasn't converted into an inside the park HR, from a guy who had two of the Cubs five hits, you're going to get responded to accordingly. Oh okay let's all celebrate his first hits since like 9/15 and ignore his not actually running out of the box and questionable defense.
