  1. I hope B&B weren't rude to him though. God forbid. That had to be a joke by the caller, in reference to all the calls to make Mark Anderson either an OLB or DT.
  2. Yeah, why? A 26 year old was taken out of the house in cuffs! I doubt Rex lives with Tank, Tanks girlfriend and kids, and 6 pit bulls. Unless Rex is more thuggish than we know. I'm pretty sure Rex lives with his wife somewhere...
  3. Oh bollocks. If you don't want to believe me, I really could care less. Unless you want to tell me why I'd have a reason to lie about this. I think he was bollocksing the fact that your info has credibility.
  4. It's true. I've heard the same stories from people involved. This is the biggest reason why it's important to keep scum bags like Pete Rose out of sports. It's not as simple as throwing games and whatnot, it's the deep doodoo you can get into with the people taking your bets. I'll echo this. I've heard similar things from my peoples.
  5. It seemed to me that he and Dempsey were two of the more fouled players in MLS. Creative players aren't protected like they should be by the awful MLS refs.
  6. Serioussly, though, who are our DT's? Boone, Scott and...?
  7. I'm getting the feeling that Adu is going to be not nearly as great as many US Soccer supporters had hoped. I dunno. He's only 17. He had been playing out of position at United, yet still managed to improve every season despite playing for a coach that hated him and in a league that doesn't do any favors to techincally creative players. I think he can be a very important player for US Soccer, provided he goes to the right Euro league and avoids injury. Put him on the senior national team right now, and he's probably our 2nd most creative player after Dempsey.
  8. No reaction to the big Freddy Adu trade?
  9. I'm nervous in the sense that I want him to shut the local and national media up for at least a week, and am not looking forward to the backpatting that will happen if he craps the bed and Griese comes in. I'm actually more concerned about the defense than Rex. I'm nervous for Rex only because I want him, specifically, to succeed. Generally, in football I don't pull for a specific Bear player to succeed -- but Rex is different. I like him, and I like his make-up. I think if he can get over this hump, we'll have a real by-God Quarterback we can count on. That's pretty much how I feel.
  10. Just refreshing my prediction That kind of performance would do nothing to quell the mob.
  11. I'm nervous in the sense that I want him to shut the local and national media up for at least a week, and am not looking forward to the backpatting that will happen if he craps the bed and Griese comes in. I'm actually more concerned about the defense than Rex.
  12. I don't see this game being low scoring. I think St Louis will be able to move the ball, and I think the Bears can run the ball at will. This has the potential to be a track meet if Grossman shows up.
  13. But isn't that what people would expect out of Griese? To not turn the ball over and simply "manage" the offense? To continue to rail against Rex if he simply goes out and manages the ball tonight would be hypocrisy of a high magnitude.
  14. That's what I'm saying. That's not a great line by any stretch, but it's pretty much what Griese would do. The question is, how would that be percieved? Is it enough for Rex simply not to turn the ball over, regardless of his other numbers? What's the cutoff point?
  15. Nah, I don't think even if he threw for 11 TDs tonight that it would be back to "Rex is Awesome" . It would be more like "Rex is awesome sometimes but ridiculously inconsistent, Bears still can't count on him to win in playoffs" He won't get rid of that stigma until he wins in the playoffs. You're probably right, but the thing is that Griese hasn't ever started a playoff game. It's not like he's replete with "Big Game Experience". I think the local media will give him a break with a performance on par with his first few games this season. I think if he goes out and plays out of his mind that the focus might change to "Make sure Rex is prepared for the playoffs" rather than "Let's bench Rex before the playoffs".
  16. So I'm wondering what the threshold is going to be for Rex tonight. I'm wondering what kind of game it will take to get his critics off his back a little while. I have it figured like this: 11-28 201 1 TD 2 INT's = absolute media mayhem 15-24 198 1 TD 1 INT = continued controversy 21-34 225 2 TD 0 INT = 1 weeks' reprieve 21-28 255 3 TD 1 INT = 2 weeks' reprieve 23-30 355 5 TD 0 INT = knee jerk reaction back to "Rex is Awesome" Honestly, as long as Rex completes 50% of his throws and doesn't turn the ball over, I'll be happy, and so should everyone calling for Griese, since the "game manager" is what everyone is screaming for. I'm just wondering what criteria Lovie and Ron Turner will use to decide whether or not to pull Rex. Is it 1 INT? 2? A 6 of 14 1st half? What if he throws a TD but 2 INT's, one of which isn't his fault? What if the O-Line has a turnstile play and Rex gets blindsided and fumbles? Is that his fault? What if he plays ok but the team loses? What if he plays great for 58 minutes and then throws a pick late and we lose?
  17. Vernon Wells No way that happens. Jones is no beast. Marshall and Mateo might bring a fourth OF type (ie Ryan Church). A mid-high range prospect? Pie? Wells is a rental they know they won't be able to keep. And personally, I wouldn't make that deal. The difference between Jones and Wells isn't Marshall+Mateo+mid level prospect Nor would I, but that's the best player we could get from that group of players, I think. Maybe Jennings, but that's overpaying for him as well.
  18. I know that Carlos Quieroz (Man U assistant, architect of "Project 2010") was on a short list, as was Pekerman (former Argentinian manager), and maybe Sven Goran Eriksson, but of those names only Quieroz has any exposure to the US game. Other names bandied about were Peter Nowak of DC United (barf), Bradley (barf), Luis Philip Scolari and one other MLS coach who's name escapes me. At this point, Quieroz is my guy. After that, I'd honestly consider bringing Arena back before giving any of those guys a shot. Pekerman doesn't speak English. Eriksson is the Dusty Baker of internation soccer. He's a terrible fit for the US game. Nowak does nothing for me, and Bradley's a caretaker. The US job has little prestige, and about the same pay as a top Euro job. It's not a great gig, but we should have better candidates than this.
  19. About the only positive thing about Bradley is that he's an interim coach, and it's not even a given that he'll be in charge for Copa America/Gold Cup games this summer. It seems that he'll have the upcoming friendly against...I can't remember, but some crap team in LA in January, and then the Mexico friendly a month later and that's about it. He hopefully won't be given the change to ever, ever coach us through a World Cup cycle. I can't get excited or optimistic about it. Bradley's nothing special. It just means that Gulati's putting off making progress, which isn't suprising either. Gulati sucks.
  20. Oh barf.
  21. Here's the link for those interested. No other choices mentioned. Seems like Klinsmann had Gulati over the barrel in negotiations, and Gulati wasn't willing to give some ground. I hope there are some other magic choice out there, or we're in trouble. It's time to get rid of Gulati. Gulati is terrible. I have no idea how you screw that up. Klinsi should have been a no brainer. Hope for Carlos Quieroz now, I guess.
