I can't imagine a guy with some pretty heavy anxiety issues would ever, ever want to subject himself to the gutter press that is the Boston media. Yeah, I'm really amused that it seems the best case scenario is "we got rid of the guys with personality issues so we have the money to go get Zack Greinke and Josh Hamilton". If their front office would start to collectively act like grownups and not the collection of clowns featured in Treymon's paint art, maybe they'd realize that they've done exactly nothing to address the rampant scapegoating and out of control vitriol over the last 11 months or so. Boston, by doing nothing, would have probably been well tipped to contend again next season. That roster had the best record in baseball before their pitchers all got hurt and they collapsed last season.
