  1. I don't want to trade eigher Z or Wood.
  2. I stand corrected. Still, he was driving in some runs.
  3. Yeah, you know, except for Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodrigez, Albert Pujols, and, oh yeah, Aramis Ramirez and Derrek Lee.
  4. No, but Burnitz replaced Sosa. I'd rather pay $15 mil (or whatever it is) for Sosa to hit .230 for the Orioles then pay him 20 mil (or whatever we would have had to pay him this year) to hit .230 for us. As far as Hairston, he needs to continue to start in Center and leadoff. He's a guy we need: a table setter.
  5. Look, Sosa was a bad seed that needed to go. As far as Burnitz, even when he's not hitting he's a MASSIVE defensive improvement compared to Sammy. He cuts off balls that could easily turn into doubles, that Sammy would have let by him. And, on a ball hit into the outfield he knows which base to throw too: trying to get a runner at third, as opposed to airmailing over the catcher's head futilly trying to get the runner heading for home. As far as hitting, he has hot days and cold days, but hasn't really had a prolonged bad strecth at the plate. He has power that makes opposing pitchers recognise, and can shoot it up the middle. He runs the bases intelligently (not withstanding the two times he was picked off in the last week, but everybody has bad days, and overall he's been great on the bases) and has enough speed that, on occasion, he can steal a base. But, most of all, he's a down to Earth guy. he doesn't have a chip on his shoulder, like Sammy. He just goes out there and does his job, never wines, and always contributes. I admit I wasn't very excited when the Cubs signed Burnitz, but he has proven himself to me.
  6. The Cubs need to just kick some butt, and have fun, in the second half. Hopefully Nomar will come back and return to form, which would be a serious boost. I do think we need to trade for a setup man, a proven one that is. Someone like Scott Sheilds from the Angels would be ideal, though I have no reason to think the Angels would want to trade him.
  7. So what are you saying? We don't have to choose between them, we have them both.
  8. If you could trade him, or if he agreed to one.
  9. Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Mark Bellhorn
  10. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO... I know a lot of people are impatient with him, but thats no reason to send him packing. This guy is gonna be a frontline starter as soon as he firgures out how to pitch without hurting his shoulder. Hopefully he finally has, with his smoother motion. But I want to gauge the opinion of the site. Today's outing: 7.2ip, 6h, 2r, 2er, bb, 4k and the W Everyone who wnts to trade him will be kicking themselves when he goes to the Yankees or Red Sox and becomes Roger Clemens.
  11. DO NOT GUT THE TEAM! Firebomb the bullpen, except for Dempster, and keep most of the rest of the team. I'd be wiling to let Patterson go in a trade, and I think we need some new bench guys. What we really need is a true leadoff man. If Patterson turns into that, keep him, if not, trade him.
  12. Yeah, that will solve all the Cubs problems. This is what they should do: Hairston CF Walker 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Burnitz RF Hollandsworth LF Cedeno SS (he could be moved up if he does well starting) Barrett C Pitcher's spot I realise this doesn't do the righty, lefty, righty, lefty theory, but thats my lineup. As far as the bench, they need to call up Kelton. I'm glad Patterson and Dubois were sent down. Dubois needs to learn how to hit a curveball, and Patterson needs to figure out how to lay off the high strike, and slap the ball.
  13. Thankfully you are not the Cubs GM. But seriously, your're right, lets trade away all of our major leagers and turn the team into the Brewers. In fact lets trade Prior too. You obviously don't want to win ever again given your willingness to trade away several quality players: Rusch, Hollandsworth, Maddux. Also, lets trade them for prospects. Yeah, that makes since. WE HAVE PROSPECTS. The Cubs are in a serious funk, but thats no reason to press the self destruct. As far as firing Dusty, who do you hire? Who is out there to hire? Did you think about that?
  14. I don't want to trade Rusch, he's done a lot for us. Everyone who wants to trade Wood is insane. This guy has the chance to be a top level starter, and you want to trade him to someone else? I know he's had a lot of injuries, and is still working on figuring it out, but guys like Schilling wnet through the same thing early in their carrer. BE PATIENT. When he figures it out (hopefully sonner rather than later) he will be the man. Hopefully, his smoother motion will help take strain off his shoulder. There is a reason teams keep calling to ask about Wood. Do we really want to give him up knowing we'll have to face him eventually?
  15. I find Kruk funny, but he's usually a little off on his anaylisis'. My favorite guy on Baseball Tonight is Gammons, second is Brantley.
  16. Mostly, no its not what any self respecting man should do. Thats true though. Of course, the same is true if you have a toddler, or infant of either gender, at a game and are sitting in that area. But, if you have a son over the age of 12 (or a daughter over 12 thats into softball) then no, you can't.
  17. Dusty could do more, but the problem isn't all his fault. People just look for the first person they can hold responsible, and "off with his head!" Obviously Dusty stands out as the manager, and at the end of the season thats where the buck stops. As of right now the Cubs are in a funk. We went through a period where we one like 15 of 20 games (I forget how many, and I'm far too lazy to look it up now) starting with the West Coast Road trip. That was a hot streak. The Cubs have lost 6 in a row. YOU PLAY 162 GAMES, and there's a reason for that. We may not catch the Cardinals, but we still get the Wild Card. I like Dusty, I think he's a good manager, and he is a proven winner(Even if he hasn't won it all).
