  1. Superliga tonight FC Dallas v Chivas (Mex) 8pm LA Galaxy v Pachuca 10pm You can watch it in Spanish if you got Telefutura (Ch 60 in Chicago)
  2. Adu to Portugal very close to being done http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_6437201
  3. Didn't he already rejoin the team to be checked out? I thought he joined the team in NY. He had a poor start in Iowa last night
  4. On the whole he's been solid, but he's been rocked twice in 4 starts this month(most recently in his last start), and he's starting to approach an IP threshold that he hasn't reached since College/HS, if ever. And like previous posts illustrated, the Cardinals have had good luck, not bad luck. They have the worst pythagorean record in baseball. Missouri is one bad bad state for baseball this year
  5. and probably drive up his price quite a bit imagine if he gets labeled as a good defender, then you could be talking some real bucks
  6. If I'm an opposing coach, I'd plan to counteract swings passes and reverses, but would not worry much about his route running and deep receiving threat until he shows it in a game. I'm betting Hester won't be much of an impactful receiver down the field, rather it'll be all about getting the ball in his hands. Exactly. Hester won't be terribly effective as a wide receiver unless he can also be productive downfield, no matter how much speed/agility/vision he has or how many reverses and screens are run.
  7. Pie with a linedrive single, stolen base, and Fontenot drives him home with a single. 1-0 Iowa after half an inning
  8. This matters a lot less than the bullpen. When you bring in a relief pitcher, you may want a few different options with guys who do different things. You don't choose who you start day to day based on matchups.
  9. Angel's never thrown a ton of innings in his career. Part of his job as a starter is to give a good amount of innings. Also, he's thrown the ball well in limited innings. Where has the problem been? The bullpen, where he's being sent, so this could be a help to the team is Marshall (I'm guessing) continues on this solid year. The lack of logic is stunning, simply stunning. Starting pitching = Strenght Bulpen percieved weakness (not necessarily a valid reflection of reality) Remove starting pitchers weakens the starters. The starters are weakened the bullpen gets more work. When a bullpen works too much it gets weaker. A bullpen is used to help preserve vicotory. It's hard when there is nothing to preserve. Marshall is not a good bet to be a decent 5th starter, neither is Miller. I find you making a few of assumptions along with your logic. Guzman has pitched well as a starter, but if he can't consistently go deep into the game, he is not helping his bullpen. Also, Marshall vs. Guzman isn't as clearcut as you make it out to be. Sure, we can all break out our jump to conclusions mats after 3 starts, but look at their historic major league and minor league performances and consider who also would be more suited in the bullpen. It's really not hard. Why not take Z and make him a middle reliever then? Marshall is not good and comming off an injury. Wade Miller looks to be almost finished. After that the next legit starters are in AA and A ball. When you take from a strength it makes it a weaker. Ok, first off. Zambrano career 129 ERA+ Second off, you maintain the assumption that there is going to be a huge dropoff from Guzman to Marshall, the same as Zambrano to Marshall based on your argument. Aside from the most recent limited major league action from Guzman, there is nothing to indicate this to be a continuing trend. Guzman can help in the bullpen, Marshall cannot. This is about allocation of resources. It's really not that hard. Does the pen need help or is Lou overreacting after a tough loss? Or has Lou mismanged the pen making it look worse than it would otherwise be the case? But all that is entirely beside the point. It's just plain dumb to take a starter out of the rotation to put him in the bullpen. Just dumb. Why can't Marshall help the pen? What are you going to do when Miller comes up instead of Marshall? The bullpen isn't in dire in need of help, but a solid arm doesn't hurt. When you have a capable starter ready, it isn't just plain dumb no matter how many times you use the word or fragmented sentences you type. Marshall is left handed, you got 3 of those in the bullpen already. If Miller comes up instead, I won't like it. I may make an angry scowl or possibly grind my teeth a few times. So there's a law against having more than three lefties in the bullpen? Marshall hasn't been a capeable starter for quite a while There's no law, but it doesn't help you strategically when you have a couple left handed specialists down there already. Guzman wasn't a capable starter until a few weeks ago.

  14. Fontenot- Theriot infield from now until October, please.
  15. my friend the royals fan seems to be concerned over bell's "overuse" of their new investment. gil meche pitch counts this year 103, 102, 91, 111, 111, 110, 118, 111, 109 Nothing terribly bad, more evidence of his good pitching than abuse.
  16. He pulled up lame and was limping around third. Why can't you and McCarver see that? There isn't a rule that says you have to run home even if you have a bad hamstring no matter what.
  17. Alfonso Soriano's theme song - The Pixies - Where is my mind
  18. I'll be happy with just getting a basehit. happy now?
  19. Bring back Burnitz  Seriously, though, I think Soriano/Jones can play there fine, but Jones just shouldn't be playing against LHP. Pie should also as many starts as possible and play there. Making a deal seems like a bit of a waste when you have a good ballplayer on the horizon and stopgap options. Well, in my opinion, Pie sitting on the bench is not an option. So either bat him 8th and play him everyday in which case you trade Jones or Floyd, or go get an everyday or platoon CF. There has to be a right-handed platoon partner for Jones out there on the cheap somewhere. Another RH hitter at middle infield or outfield would do because you can slide DeRosa into the OF and Soriano over to CF. I don't know how well Fontenot, a lefty, has hit lefties historically, but he is better against them this year in limited ABs.

  21. Yeah...ok. You can't have guys who can OPS .800+ against righties on your team! you're missing a major part of the point. jones would be fine if used properly. the problem is that lou, just like dusty, refuses to do so. that .800 OPS doesn't mean much when it comes along with a terrible line against lefties (that gives a combined OPS of 730 - that's a 92 OPS+ as of this morning). The question is-who is better against LHP that could play in center instead of Jones? There are only 7 good right handed-hitters on this team (Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Soriano, DeRosa, Murton, Theriot) and none of the left-handers can hit LHP-at all. Yes, yes, those 7 should be the lineup against LHP along with Pie in order to give him ABs and get his defense.
  22. Soriano has a friend. This is not a joke btw
