  1. Is it just me, or does Glendon look a bit chubbier?
  2. Yeah, like totally, fer sure. No, he wouldn't make the HOF if he died tomorrow, but project his numbers over a 15 year career, and he has a legitimate shot.
  3. I'll be damned. Wolf's a closet Cubs fan...
  4. - Both are 1st ballot HOF'ers if steroid suspicion is not rampant. - Neither are 1st ballot HOF'ers if they get caught/admit using. - Both are I think widely believed to be users. - McGwire is more likely to suffer because of his congressional appearance. - Sammy's corked bat will no doubt cast a shadow. If they were clean, both definitely deserve the HOF on their first ballot. However, I think too many writers will view both as being juiced, and it will be extremely interesting over the next few years to see how many from this "era" are ultimately elected. I have a feeling there won't be nearly as many as we thought would pre-Canseco.
  5. For what purpose though? Juan Pierre walks 55 times, has 185 singles, 32 doubles, 13 triples, and 3 HR in 700 PA. That's 355 TB in 700 PA or a .507. Aramis walks 36 times, has 125 singles, 35 doubles, 0 triples, and 31 HR in 700 PA. That's 355 TB in 700 PA or a .507. These numbers are all hypothetical, of course, but what exactly does this new statistic tell me about these 2 players?
  6. fixed (pending Vance's approval)
  7. THANK YOU! I feared I was alone. I think you probably are. That was pretty thick, Sulley.
  8. Bruce is crazy. Discussing Kerry Wood: Only kidding, excellent piece.
  9. Isn't that roughly how OPS came to be?
  10. Apparently. You know, since sausage comes from pigs and all.
  11. Bunting with your #2 hitter is OK in my book in the bottom of the 9th of a tie game when your #1 hitter led off with a double. Then again, if Walker is my #2 hitter, pull the damn ball and hit it hard.
  12. And he makes a damn fine breakfast sausage. Or was that Jimmy Dean?
  13. Adam Dunn is not a difference maker if Florida is bringing him in to backup Cabrera. He is not a difference maker if the Cards bring him in as a 1B, when there's nothing at all wrong with Pujols. Get it? That OPS is a difference maker when it is coming from a full-time player.
  14. I haven't followed the minors very closely over the past few months. Did this surprise anyone else?
  15. Name gave it away.
  16. She's responded to me through the e-mail but I've never made the mailbag. She's also never agreed to my request for a Q & A. Perhaps she's familiar with the site... :D
  17. fixed Thanks, I just spit beer all over my keyboard.
  18. I'm glad she finally answered one. I have sent at least a half dozen over the past couple of months calling her out, and I haven't seen one of mine posted yet.
  19. I love the Big Ten this year, and it really has nothing to do with the fact that Iowa's in 1st. I'm finding myself watching more non-Iowa games this year than I ever have. I love having the conference strong and deep again.
  20. Vance, are you of the opinion that Ponson is a fat lush?
  21. Don't be so shy, please let him know how you really feel about him and his opinion.
  22. And exactly how was McGwire more valuable than Sammy? Because he had better numbers? Sammy's value was greater because his performance had a greater impact on his team's performance. In other words, his stats provided greater value. Period. My beef with Pujols getting the MVP last year over Lee was that Pujols was an impact player on an already really good team. He didn't make as much of a difference on their overall performance. Lee was screwed because we didn't have anyone batting in front of him, resulting in fewer team wins because we weren't scoring as much. Had we had legitimate hitters in the 1-2 spots, Lee would have likely had 30+ more RBIs, and the team would have been serious contenders for the wild card. That happens, and I think Lee is a lock based on his value.
  23. Most Valuable Player, not best numbers. Without Sammy, the 98 Cubs would not have made the playoffs. McGwire's numbers were superior, but the Cards did not make the playoffs. Sammy was more valuable than Mac. In my opinion, it wasn't even close.
  24. Not by a long shot.
