  1. Then shouldn't you take it upon yourself to learn more about the player instead of just deciding you would rather have Dempster? Closer is the most overrated "position" in baseball. Probably.. but the reason I dont care right now is because a trade has not been made yet. That doesn't make any sense. yes it does... what i am saying is. If this trade were to take place and go through I would look up Broxton's stats... and then decide if I like it or not. Its not like my opinion really matters to the Hendry. What I do know is right now I would rather have Dempster than some unproven rookie. who has never had the chance to save a game. If you know nothing about him, why offer an opinion? Would you rather have Neifi over BJ Upton, or have you looked up his numbers?
  2. if you could do this without getting rid of Dempster I would rather do it then. In order to get value a team has to be willing to part with value. The purpose of the trade would be to fulfill the Dodgers needs as well as the Cubs own needs. In this situation, the Dodgers need pitching and either Dempster or Howry could be used since they hold the most value in the pen. I'm not excluding Eyre, but he has an NTC. Ok. I realize that. But I dont know much about Broxton thats why I say if we could do it without getting rid of Dempster I would like it more Then shouldn't you take it upon yourself to learn more about the player instead of just deciding you would rather have Dempster? Closer is the most overrated "position" in baseball. i have heard steve stone on numerous occasions disagree with your assesment of a closer's importance. Am I the first who has ever disagreed with Steve Stone? He also advocates the Cubs trading Aramis for Izturis.
  3. I don't know that I'd let him finish his lease if I were his landlord. Allowing him to finish this season because nobody could turn it around would be silly. Save Zambrano's arm and free the kids!
  4. I have made it clear that I am not a fan of Hill. I don't think he's nearly as good as a lot of people do, and I think his perceived trade value is his only redeeming quality. Having said that, this club is [expletive] for not allowing him to showcase his talents in a consistent fashion to see if he can figure it out at this level. He has been roughed up and yanked. Sent to the bullpen then sent down. Called up a 2nd time, got roughed up, and deported once again. I would love to see Hill prove me wrong. Meanwhile, Marshall has been looked upon as though he's some sort of savior and is quite frankly putting up some bad numbers. (and yes, I understand the age, experience level, rookie bound to progress stuff, etc.) Hill is more deserving of a spot on this roster than Rusch, and he should be given that spot for the remainder of this season.

  6. And Soriano crushes him in the SLG/OPS department. Now compare Pierre to Damon and Sizemore and Granderson and Ichiro and Rollins and Roberts (both) and Youkilis and Reyes and Podsednik and Biggio and Weeks.
  7. Anyone else smell another deal for a 27 year old A pitcher with a 6.48 career ERA? "But he was the 74th best Padres prospect in 2000"
  8. Sorry, Pierre isnt below avg... nor is Jones. Rowand cant bat lead off... so I wouldnt want to give up Pierre to get him...On the other hand, Murton is below average... but he is also still in his first FULL year as a major leaguer.....so I am not ready to give up on him just yet unless it means getting a big name powerhitter to take his spot in left. Pierre's career OPS+ says otherwise. Pierre is mediocre at his very best. Jones, however, has a career OPS+ of 101, which is just barely above average, so you're right on that one. I was saying that Pierre isnt below avgerage compared to other leadoff hitters. overall yes... he is way below average. Statistics say otherwise.
  9. No you wouldn't. Wow, you're right. I completely missed than angle.
  10. Yes, it does improve a team that hovers at the 25 games under .500 mark. Hendry must rebuild the team on pitching and defense. Izturis is 6 years younger than your Neifi and was an All-Star SS. You then move Ronnie Cedeno to 2nd. EPatt doesn't appear ready. Josh Fields hustles, which ARam does not. When this club needed ARam to step up and earn his money, he showed he is weak stock. Trade now while the value is high. Fields is stuck in the minors because of Joe Crede and the talk was the White Sox may want him to learn the OF. Sweeney is a corner OF that is a year away. The Sox have played him in CF but he is a corner guy. Hendry will have at least $25 million+ to spend over the winter. I hope it's a big bat and at least a #2-3 pitcher. 1) Izturis does nothing more than cement the theory that this management team has no clue. He belongs on a team loaded with offense. 2) I'd rather have a productive hitter who doesn't hustle.
  11. I enjoyed watching Nic play in Des Moines a few years ago. I'm happy as a pig in snot (or whatever) to see him alive and doing well.

  13. Anyone but AC/DC. ANYONE!!!
  14. If I were GM, we'd already have Abreu, Tejada, and ARod. My only worry would be whether Bobby and Vlad could agree on who moves to left. ARod's already shown me he has no qualms with giving up his position. If I had to choose, I'd take ARod.
  15. Bunts are the devil's playground.
  16. What's the point of NSBB anymore? We should turn this into a knitting forum or something.
  17. Sign? Who the hell wants to go to games?
  18. I like the Donald, but priority #1 with him will be money. He's too NYC to invest himself emotionally in a baseball club in Chicago. He sees the profit potential, nothing more. I think he would make a horrible professional sports team owner outside of New York.

A guy with a career OPS+ of 124 is more likely to hit a season at 177 (as well as remain significantly above average).
  20. So, essisentially what we got for Williamson. I'd have to see them in person first befiore I comment Yes, and we'll be watching your posting activity to ensure you comply, both now and with future deals. But I agree completely, we should trade Neifi for whatever we can get.
  21. How did Pantera get to round 2? Did they face Michael Bolton in the first round?
  22. OK, I haven't read the entire thread. Is this a joke? That's the best we could do for Williamson? Highly sought after, my ass.
  23. Theriot looked weak in the field and at the plate. I don't blame Hendry for using Neifi over Theriot. I am not on the Theriot bandwagon. He looks to me to be nothing more than a utility/AAAA player.
  24. I could have sworn Quevedo came in a straight up deal for C Robert Machado. We got Ruben from the Braves then traded him to the Brewers.
