So I finally saw the video of the incident. I'll sum it up for those of you who may not have seen it. Encarnacion acted as though he fouled a pitch back after he made contact. It was obvious he didn't know where the ball was. Somebody probably shouted something to get his attention because he started looking in the air to find the ball. I was under the impression he just threw a fit and didn't want to run.
This is Colvin's first game batting since game number 1 right? If so, that's a great very, very early start-5 for 6 with 2 SB and 1 HR. No, he played both games yesterday, going 1/7 with a double and K. I love the Sizemore comparison. My guess is Colvin would have to severely overachieve to be Sizemore. I see him at his best as a perfect median between Mark Kotsay and Sizemore. I'd take that.
Guys drop all the time becuase of signability issues. It's not like scouts didn't know about him. Wilken didn't find him bailing hay in Backass Nebraska. The Cubs gave him first round money and then some. I guess it all depends on one's defention of "steal". Anyway, let's wait until he has pitched a day in the majors to call him a steal. It's a huge farming community, I wouldn't be surprised if we found a few more there. So far it may seem like Samalamadingdong was a steal because of the tools he possesses, but you're right that he still has to do something about it. Had he just signed a contract similar to those drafted around him, he just might be a steal already. He's got a lot of money to earn.
Why? A batter should at least jog to first. It seems that Encarnacion didn't even do that. Believe it or not, fly balls and popups get dropped occasionally, and if you want to send a message to your team, now (early in the year) is the time to do it. Yes. There isn't a lot that irritates me more than seeing someone throwing a fit over popping up and not running it out.
