  1. it could if you're watching via Gameday and an NSBB thread
  2. JINX It's kinda hard to be "worthfull" when 2 people colide into you when you are catching the ball. Theriot was clearly calling for it It's not his to call. The priority goes CF, SS, 2B. We couldn't even see if Izzy was calling for it. Theriot was being stupid. How can you assume Izturis was calling for it, though? How can everyone assume that he wasn't? His face was turned away from the camera. Jones wasn't calling for it. That means it's Izzy's ball by default. Theriot called for it. It's not Izturis' ball by default. That's the whole point of calling it. And if nobody called for it, it's whoever can catch it. Cesar may very well have been calling for it, as well, but you can't assume he was. The priority goes CF, SS, 2B in that situation. I think Bob even mentioned it. The priority is CF, then whichever of the MI has a better angle.
  3. Here's to Ronny tearing up AAA again and remembering how to hit big league pitching.
  4. you only got 8?
  5. Can anyone think of something positive that Cesar Izturis brings to the Cubs when he's playing?
  6. Click the Options button in the upper-right hand corner, you can get rid of the 3D stuff and the excessive animations. muchas gracias
  7. This is my first experience with the new Gameday layout. I can't quite tell what the hell is going on -- my eyes hurt.
  8. It technically does (or hit the wall, stands, etc). It's really up to the discretion of the umps as to whether or not they feel it has a chance to end up in fair territory.
  9. It is a very strange situation. They talk about Tampa similarly to the way somebody would talk about Washington when referring to anything to do with the US government. And you hear more about the Tampa team, in high A than you do any of their other affiliates. You rarely heard anything about Columbus, and never hear anything about Scranton now (their former and current AAA teams). their facilities in Tampa are nicer than 1/2 the major league ballparks Including the one in Tampa.
  10. True, but I'm not convinced that either Jones or Floyd over the course of a season gives the Cubs a better chance than Murton.
  11. There wouldn't be a point to taking out his best starts, because what you really want is a guy who consistently goes out there and puts up quality starts. I don't know that Marquis fits that description, but I find it reasonable to remove a few real stinkers and leaving his best starts in there as an evaluation tool. To look at it from an extreme, a pitcher who shuts out his opponent 30 times in a season, but has 5 starts where he gives up 30 runs each is actually a pretty valuable pitcher, even if his ERA is going to be way up there because of those 5 starts. Why exclude his 5 best starts if you are just attempting to see what his body of work looks like if you exclude a small handful of really bad games? Pitchers are going to have really bad games that are outside their norm, but they're also going to have really good games as well. If you want to exclude the 2 worst performances as some sort of an aberration, then the 2 best should be considered the same.
  12. DeRosa should never be given a start over Murton in RF.
  13. why do i have the feeling we'll pick incorrectly? if we could get that from a young catcher.... It doesn't matter who we pick, he won't end up making it to the bigs for one reason or another.
  14. so will the Braves
  15. Didn't someone go through Jason's game log for last year and determine he would have had a lot better numbers except for a handful of real stinkers? Granted, I certainly didn't want him on the Cubs and I'm not quite ready to step on the bandwagon just yet, but he has shown to be an effective pitcher at times in the past, even if it was 1/3 of an inning at a time. :D I certainly like what he's done so far. And I won't complain if he keeps it up. Well, he had the two starts where LaRussa basically left him out to dry because the bullpen was completely taxed from the game before. On June 20, Mulder only went 2 1/3 and the Cards lost 20-6 to the White Sox. The next day Marquis pitched and gave up 13 runs in 5 innings. On July 17, Weaver only went 4 innings and the Cards lost 15-3 to the Braves. The next day Marquis went 5+ and gave up 12 runs. If you take those two starts out of the equation, he ends up with an ERA of 5.13. If he only gives up 5 runs in each of those starts in the same number of innings pitched, he has an ERA of 5.33. While these ERA's certainly aren't great by any means, they're a hell of a lot better than the 6.02 he put up. BTW, as an extra little stat I didn't notice before, Marquis game scores for these two games were -11 and -7 for the two games. And if you take out those 2 starts, you should also take out his 2 best starts. and if he didn't pitch at all, this ERA would have been 0.00  Hot damn, somebody give him $20 million.

  17. I was always under the impression that chicagosports.com was the AAA equivalent of a real news site. Maybe Ronny has a journalism degree.
  18. Stop pissing off Scott.
  19. I'd take the under at 70.5.
