  1. I don't understand what you are getting at. The buyout always was part of that budget. The question is: Do they think Dexter Fowler is worth $16 million for one more season? Yes, they absolutely do. Or at least they should. The buyout simply doesn't figure into that answer. I guess I'm asking like this: let's say the Cubs have $170 budgeted for 2017. Dex counts for 9 million of that 170. So now we are down to 161. Do the Cubs pay him another $16 at that point? (Some think we have already accounted for the 9 on this year's budget but I'm not so sure). [expletive] I hope this makes sense. I'm getting into the territory where I'm getting embarrassed for myself. (now that I've looked it up) the buyout is only $5MM, not that it makes a huge difference, but that's likely already accounted for as part of this year's budget. I think both sides always saw it as "here's $13MM and let's try it again next year".
  2. Why would they view it like that? They also probably don't want to just pay him that money and lose him. It absolutely doesn't matter. That money is basically just money that is deferred from this year. They have to pay it either way. It won't factor into their thinking at all. But I figure it goes into their 2017 roster budget and so it has to be part of the money we can spend next year. Or no? I'm sure it's been accounted for since the contract was structured the way it was
  3. Agreed. I don't think he'd accept but will Cubs be willing to offer on the chance he does? Yes. Absolutely. Why wouldn't they? He is worth a one-year, $16 million contract. There is no question they offer it. I'm not entirely opposed (again) to a 3 year deal
  4. that's some horsefeathering heat. horsefeathers.
  5. even Stone has been not a jackass and said nice things about the team
  6. has hawk said a word yet? I'm genuinely shocked how complimentary Hawk has been of the Cubs. even on Javy's fly out there he wanted to show a replay of his swing and how he generates a ton of power and is going to hit a lot of long home runs. it's really weird...
  7. keep your head up, Carson. Charlotte is a beautiful city. you'll enjoy it there.
  8. I'm glad that guy plays CF for a team that's not the Cubs
  9. I wonder if Fulmer is enjoying his time in the show
  10. the Real Sports show on the IOC is equal parts depressing and infuriating
  11. Miggy has actually been hitting the ball the past few games. Willson has not. also Joe is horsefeathering weird
  12. I like the other version of [expletive] the closer a lot better. cobs are 19-42 since that story ran go cobs
  13. AND GOD DAMMIT, I'M TALKING ABOUT HOME RUNS, NOT A GROWN MAN'S PENIS
  14. the first time I heard it referred to as a dong was probably when I was in little league 30+ years ago
  15. they're celebrating their long history of having the worst horsefeathering uniforms ever
  16. I really hope the Sox uniforms get lost on their way to Wrigley tomorrow and they have to wear stuff the Cubs have laying around
