odonkor (sp?) was phenomenal ever since he came on. i think this is a fair result. poland battled hard, but germany dominated. motm still the polish keeper.

poland-germany 0-0 at the half. germany getting the better of the play, but poland have had their moments as well. germany would be on top at least 2-0 but for some dubious finishing- still a pretty good game.

Agreed. Should have been a no call. And even if you call a penalty kick, there is no way that's a red card - a yellow at best. was a good ball by david villa to release him though.

if croatia will shoot away from dida, they might get something outta this one. btw, a friend of mine just reported that a 5Live commentator (BBC i think) referred to ronaldo as a "fat waste of s**t". :lol:

ronaldo has looked largely unimpressive. as much as i feel for croatia, as a neutral, hopefully that goal will open things up.

i understand, and agree that it will work with some players, and the key phrase that you mentioned is "if you can get away with it." but previous games have shown that it doesnt work with dmb on the right and, to a lesser extent, donovan up top. if you are going to play your strongest 11, and convey is stronger than beasley, then i feel bruce shouldve asked himself whether dmb is stronger than dempsey/anyone else on the right, etc. agreed on dempsey and lewis as our wingers.

but defensively, dempsey is superior to convey, so that doesnt make sense. it wasnt ever really convey vs dempsey, but dmb vs dempsey. and bruce's stubborn insistance on dmb, added to his seeming lack of faith in dempsey means he lost out. putting your best 11 on the field isnt going to do a darn thing if you play them out of position. i think that could work, but it depends on the roles reyna/mastro will play. they were playing almost the same role vs the czechs (reyna a little more forward), and it didnt help one bit. im not positive bruce will sit convey, and im not convinced he should. id be fine with JOB though. as for the convey/lewis problem, i think the answer is bocanegra in for lewis. i'd go with a 4-4-2, roughly: ---------------------keller----------------- ---------dolo - pope - gooch - boca------ dempsey - reyna/mastro - donovan - convey/JOB -----------mcbride---------EJ---------------

bruce's quotes after the game (speaking of, i dunno if anyone read beasleys, but im even more pissed with him after reading those) were criticizing landon and others for not being aggressive enough, and said something to the extent of "at least convey tried to run at defenders". it makes it even harder to understand why he didnt put clint in. hes the only one bold enough to try stuff, but he'll still run his socks off if it doesnt work. i wonder about bruce's sanity if the first name that comes to mind when someone says "fearless creative attacking flair" is josh friggin wolff. he has to put faith in clint- hell, he cant do much worse than dmb or convey. if dempsey doesnt start after arenas comments, i will be completely baffled.

I missed the game today. How did Beasley do? I played HS soccer with him, and really wanted to see him play today. In a word: notsogood Then again, I'm having a hard time finding anyone that played with anything resembling talent -- with the possible exception of EJ who at least seemed determined to attempt to put the ball on net. dmb was our worst player imo. he had one defensive play in the second half. otherwise he was pretty much useless- slowed down our attack and had no first touch. but then again, no one was good.

ghana still has a chance if they get out of the half only down by one.

now that i have calmed down some into a depression... -EJ was our only player who gave a crap -reyna is the only player who can complete a pass -where did convey's crossing ability go? -dmb CANNOT start/play on the right -one good run to draw the yellow isnt good enough. donovan needs to play in the midfield. we cant afford for him to go missing if hes playing. -McHead touched the ball maybe 5 times. if he is to be useful, he needs a real strike partner (and service). -give credit to the czechs. we were severely outplayed, and outcoached. rosicky couldve had 3. -did anyone else forget JOB came on in the second half? really the only positive for me was EJ, and he still had his rough moments. i am incredibly dissapointed in arena. donovan has a tendency to disappear- starting him up top wont help that. beasley has been out of it for awhile and should not have started, based on form. we have to destroy italy and ghana- a mighty tall order. ...now i need to calm down again and on a side note: italy should be 3-0 up on ghana right now- they are dominating. toni missed an early sitter, then nailed the bar.
