  1. Gammons seems to be soft peddling it with lots of qualifiers now...
  2. Well, if there's any consolation (to you) it says "apppears" headed to Toronto.
  3. $48/4 to play for the cards vs $55/5 for the blue jays? That would be an incredibly easy choice for me Fixed That would be a much tougher choice since i don't want to move to canada. not sure why you "fixed" that, anyway I'm thinking he isn't realizing the reason you said Cubs was because you grew up a Cubs fan and Burnett grew up a Cards fan, so you were relating Burnett's opportunity to play for his favorite team to what would be your opportunity to play for your favorite team (Cubs). No she (I) didn't think about that at all. I just didn't want to see the Cubs name associated with Burnett.

  5. Why wouldn't he just try to get both? Which is what he is doing. I agree, and all the media reports point to his agent giving the Cardinals every opportunity to match the deal for 5 years. So far they haven't.
  6. I guess it's a question of how much is a real shot at a WS worth to Burnett. For a difference of $5-$10 million I would go where I might actually get to win a WS or two. $50 million is already enough money for multiple lifetimes. He's already won a WS so maybe it's all about the cash right now. He did grow up a Cards fan. I'd definitely take the paycut to play for the Cubs were I in Burnett's shoes. That's a dream that people can't buy for 5-10M dollars. You have a point but if it were really about playing for the team you grew up rooting for he would have already signed with the Cardinals. i think it's fair to say he's seeking money and security (especially with his injury history).

  8. If thats what they were seeking, I'd counter offer with Mitre and Wellymeyer. Why,Nolasco hasn't pitched a day of ML ball? I know Welly is inconsistent but he has to be worth more than Nolasco. Wellymeyer could probably fit in as a back of the rotation starter (somewhere) next year. Save Welly for another deal. Pie hasn't appeared in the majors yet while Patterson has, but I bet Pie has much more trade value. Same could be said for Macias/Eric Patterson, or Rusch/Gallagher, and many other "experienced" players vs unknowns. Welly's service time hasn't exactly been steller. I see a big difference in the two cases. Patterson is due a raise in salary yet his production has regressed. His relatve youth and athleticism will get some GM's interested but he's still a gamble. As a prospect, Pie is also a gamble but he can be added for the league minimum. Low risk with the potential for high return. Macias and Eric Patterson are not equals. Yes, Macias has ML experience but he is a utility player so that doesn't help someone seeking a 2B'men. Oh yeah, I know Welly has been bad but, all things being equal, I would still value him more than someone without ML service time.

  10. You're exactly correct. I have been reading over there and 99% of the board (I was the voice of reason, lol) was for Burnett. No everyone thinks he's a bum and will be injured. Typical fans I suppose...
  11. Isn't that such a wierd sensation? I felt the exact same thing with Furcal. Two opposite emotions at the same time. Interesting, too, that a Post-Dispatch headline today was "Burnett is the key to plans of Cards." Sounds familiar. I wonder if that's pulled as quickly as the one on Chicagosports.com?
  12. It's now officially turned into a bidding war, and I think at this point we are done. I really thought we had him. He said it would be final in about an hour.
  13. Gammons reporting AJ to the Blue Jays for 5/55
  14. I would hope so. You never know, Hendry might go for this deal if he thinks he can somehow get Pierre to agree to an extension so that he is a FA next year. Big risk when better alternatives exist in CF.
  15. I'm sure the people in Bristol need more fans like you. WHat does that mean? What are you complaining about? You're listening to The Score and telling us what they say. Why do you listen if you don't like it? He wasn't the only person on the air at the time. You shouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions. This thread began during the Score's Murph show. If Stone had provided something of note I would have shared it. In the meantime, I was giving my opinion of his on-air demeanor. Your comment to me was unnecessary. :?

  17. Steve Stone is on The Score now talking about the Cubs. He's fast becoming one of my least favorite people. The Score
  18. Hi, this is being talked about here Link
  19. cubs can't top those offers. On BBTN it was mentioned that the Devil Rays wanted a couple of the Braves top pitching prospects for Lugo but the Braves are reluctant to trade them. The Cubs may still have a chance.
  20. That was uninformative. That guy had no news.
  21. LOL, my heart stopped when I read this. I didn't notice the "I wanna see" part.
  22. Nomar would likely cost them more than Lugo. Also, most teams are looking for Nomar to play 3B or OF. Few teams want to risk him reaggravating his injured groin with all of the activity at SS.
